Went fishing today with a couple of co-workers tonight and it was too windy at the place we originally went out to. Instead of wasting our time staring at the black water with an assload of wind, we put the rods away and went walking around in the mangroves.
We were out by the Gandy bridge in Tampa and there are a bunch of outcropping pylons there to help control the sand erosion. The whole area is shaped like a giant circle with a bridge jutting off the side like a tangent.
It was low low tide and little tidal pools were forming and we walked out about 100 yards to a small little island that you could not get to during the day unless you swam against the current. (kinda cool actually)
The pylons there are about 50 years old and about every other one has either fallen down or is completely covered in razor sharp barnacles. Joey was way out ahead of us with a maglite and kinda walking through and around the pylons and found a little area where a bunch of rocks had collected and formed a flat area at the same level as the water.
He walked between two of the pylons and got onto the rock mound and walked to the edge and the rocks slipped out from under him and he fell flat on his ass and cut his hand wide open on an oyster shell. His hand was filleted from thumb to pinky finger on his right palm and gushing red. It was basically running all the way down to his elbow FAST.
Without hesitation I took off my dry white T-shirt and ripped down the neck and put direct pressure on the wound with the shirt and wrapped it tight. Within a minute, it soaked entirely with blood and I put the other half of the shirt on the wound and tied it.
The cut was all the way down to the muscle and you could see the bone under his pinky finger. I showed him where the pressure point was on his upper arm and told him to hold it to stop the bleeding and we drove to the nearest hospital and waited for him. 2 hours later after waiting in the emergency room he had 13 stitches.

That was his first time out “fishing” with us. I don’t think he’ll be back any time soon.
