Hey just wanted to tell everyone I actually put up the raw weight of 400 pounds today for bench on my maximal effort day. My calculated max was always around 410-420 but I never put that much on because of possible injury. Then I started doing maximal effort and got used to heavy weight and it wasnt hard at all! Thanks DAVE TATE!!
Congratulations. Max effort days are great. It gives you actual numbers and progress to look at. You no longer have to use those “max charts” and have a “maybe max.”
Congrats and good luck in the future. I hope you are doing squat and deadlift related max lifts too.

yeah I do the squat too and I get to about 525 and almost die. I always knew my max was around there and when I finally did it I don’t think I can explain the amount of pressure on my quads. Normally when doing sets with 405 feels like a lot of weight. But with 500 plus pounds they felt like they were going to explode! Dead lift wasn’t as bad because obviously the weight isn’t on your back. I got to 475 pretty easily but my grip couldn’t pull anymore I need to use some straps.

Or you need to build your grip.
Why on earth should anyone let grip be the limiting factor on ME day when grip can be built in so many ways that won’t hamper one’s ME day?
Let me rephrase… my grip strength is really good, but the way the bar is in my hand really hurts like hell. I figured straps or even gloves would help. I have huge caluses (SP).
You could try trimming the calusses (use a razor) and skim off the outer layers. Until I learned to do this, I had to cut back all my pulling once every few weeks because I tore off a callus. You can buy razors specifically designed for this at most drug stores.
