So I had a muay thai fight earlier in october. I didn’t know, but the carlidge in my nose was broken.
It didn’t hurt after the fight, not the next morning really, but in the afternoon I was touching my nose and felt it was a little tender. I didn’t think anything of it, I just had a fight the night before. I have no marks on my face, my nose is perfectly straight everything. I feel great!
Couple days go by I’m sick as hell, thought just got something.
So a week passes by and I’m not getting any better, I’m sick as fuck. headaches everything I see these HUGE lumps in my nose, that didn’t change the appearence of my face at all.
Go to emergency at 8pm. Get taken in at 2am.
I looked up what it was and told the doctor what I thought had happened, I was correct.
Septal Hematoma. It turned into a septal abscess cause of the mad infection I had in my nose.
Anyways 2am I get this little operation done, and its my bday lol.
needles in the nose etc. hurt qutie a bit! stuff my nose with tampon stuff and thats that.
next appointment. new doctor hates fighting, thinks its retarded, asking me all these stupid questions on why do you do it blah blah blah.
needles in the nose etc. I’m guessing supposed to just put cotton whatever up the nose just like the previous. But he puts this plastic tubing and weaves a needle through the middle of my nose. gets an intern to do it first, he fucked up twice. my procedure was supposed to take 20min. I’m an HOUR and half into this shit. The pain is makin me groan qutie a bit, it fuckin HURT! espeically cause the FREEZE was comin off so they had to restick another needle.
So it’s all done, whatever.
I STILL have a problem in my nose though, it’s been 9 weeks it should be FULLY healed. But I think he twisted the septum in my nose when they were putting the needle through. like pushed too hard inside my nose and twisted it. cause at some points they were like reeming shit uip there and it was extremely fuckin painful.
I have this FUCKED up thing on the inside of my left nostril that stings and hurts to touch, when it should be fuckin gone. The doctor tells me after that theres NO more fighting in my life, I shouldn’t fight. My nose will be messed up forever, so much negativity. I asked theres no otehr way and he’s like well no you just have to stay away from it. He’s like one good hit to your nose and your nose will just droop down, like a saddle nose I know what he was talking about when he said that, but this man gave me no choice he was a most definite ass about the whole situation.
Later I find out from other fighters that I can get all that shit outta my nose and put rubber and material in there and whatever.
Anyone have this shit happen to them here?
Anyone get the surgey done to take out the cartlidge etc and put rubber up there?
Anyone have an asshole doctor?
Thanks. I know it’s a long post lol.
How horrible! I would ask a plastic surgeon for advice about your nose. They work on reconstructing noses all the time & so would know how much punishment a nose can really take - and therefore what your fighting future might hold.
Was this guy an ear, nose, & throat specialist? It sounds like you got handed to some random ER resident.

Dude, that doctor sucked. Go to an ENT specialist.
Definitely if you lived around me I could suggest one, my wife’s sister is an ear/nose/throat specialist. love’s fighting, on top of that she has these awesome huge fake boobs. sorry man.
Definitely look into a plastic surgeon or ask other athletes in your area for some recommendations there are other sports that leave athletes with broken noses.
And as far as the Doc that was so nice you should throw him a little celebration, around here we call them blanket parties. He can be the piniata(sp).

Hey, aptb55, do your sister-in-law’s fake boobs hinder her in fighting at all? Um, I have a “friend” who wants to know…
Sorry should have clarified more. She loves fighting as in loves to watch and supports fully. Her husband won a few TKD full contact tourney’s and her son is a state trooper. She watches all of my fights when we bring the videos. So I meant more in the sense being completely supportive and would really try to help get him back in action.
Now if you are asking from the standpoint of fake boob’s actually hindering fighting, there is a female that trains muay thai at our school and is a competitive fighter. From talking to her I don’t think they hinder her much but I can get more details. She has DD’s, and actually when my wife and I first saw her we debated on whether they were real, my wife thought they were I thought they were fake. so my wife decided if she ever got any work done the person who did hers was doing it.
too bad i dont live in pennsylvania apbt55 lol.
yeah i dunno what to do. he actually was an ENT doctor. But like I said before that intern did it also. It’s not normal though. I know there should be NO pain in my nose, and the side there is crusty-iness of some sort i dont even know what it is. I told him it hurts to touch (after it’s been healed) and he says well then don’t touch it, your not supposed to touch anyway. Like fuck, how come I can touch inside my right nostril no problem no pain no nothing. left nostril super sensitive/painful to touch/poke. Fuck it’s bullshit.
And that’s the thing, who else to go to? He is an ENT doctor. It’s like he did to me on purpose so I don’t fight caus eI told him I really want to compete and he said exactly “no, you don’t need that, why fight, you just don’t need it” Me saying " but you don’t understand, I want to" and he continues with “if it’s not your job, your not doing it professionally…thers other choices in life other than fighting and we don’t like seeing injuries like this from fighting, it’s just pointless”
So where to go other than an ENT doctor?
And the procedure they did was VERY VERY painful. I do not think it was supposed to be THAT painful. I wonder if anyone else here got an operation like that (septal hematoma/abscess) and felt an enormous amount of pain.
It hurt more than getting my arm fractured. A lot more. lol
go to another ENT doc. if you feel he has
done malpratice(deliberately hurting you)
go see a attorney that specializes in
medical malpratice or file a complaint with
the state medical board.
that’s what my trainer told me to do. File a complaint, I asked the doctor for other things I can do and he said, no that’s about it. When another guy who had a similar problem, filed a complaint and then got a surgery done where he got rubber and material in his nose and such and took out the cartlidge and whatever. I’m not sure of what the procedure is called.
I’m going to look for something else, especially becaues I am heading out to thailand to train, it’s gonna have to be pushed but in 6 months we are planning on going and this needs to be fixed!!
Might be a deviated septum. My cousin broke his nose so many times, he had the cartalige shaved down. Now there is more give to his nose & hasn’t broken since.
For a while I was getting bloody noses with every sparring session. I got my nose cauterized about 5 times. I switched ENT cause I thought it had to be something more serious.
the new ENT told me I had a deviated septum that pierced through the skin inside of my nose & that’s why it always bled with contact.
I ended up getting Dermo-septoplasty. Same surgery as Septoplasty plus they took skin from my left arm to cover the torn skin in my nose.
My nose bled very lightly at night & from some light rolling. Took about 3 months to feel fully healed. Now I spar full blast w/ no bloody noses. Definitely well worth it.
Did the surgery make your facial features look different? like did it make your nose not look like it used to?
I’m only asking caues i really want to get this shit fixed in my nose and whatever surgery that needs to be done. Just that, my moms real strict and she’ll FLIP if I look different lol. Maybe when I’m 20 she’ll get oevr it lol.
I’m still completely un-sure what condition my nose is in. I have a big lump in the upper part of my left nostril that blocks breathing. I do know that I have a deviated septum also. I also know that my right nostril is blocked also.
It’s like both sides are blocked…and any touching of the inside of the left nostril is stinging/painful.
This is post “operation” 10 weeks I’d say or more. It’s bullshit.
I also know that it isnt in my best interest going through that pain they put me through again. There must be a better method. IF a CHILD were to get septal abscess and had to go through the prodcedure they put me through there is NO fucking way a child could sit through that.
They were poking around so much with that needle weaving through my nose, it was ridiculous.
Espeically with the intern fucking up twice, and told the real doctor he needs help. Him using then a bigger thicker needle which causes more pain and discomfort.
run a search through you insurance to see what doctors in say a 2 hr vacinity are covered.
Then google the practice of each doctor, you can also get reviews. Talk to each one explain your situation and go with the one that seems most understanding.
File a comlaint with the state medical board, dept of labor, AMA, any medical association in your area. I wil see if there is a special one for ENTs. Use the same letter, document with pictures and visits and if you can remember exactly what the doctor said. Find a good malpractice lawyer that works for a portion of earnings, he will only take the case if he is sure he can get money. But no matter what file the complaints and keep copies of every correspondence.
If he did this on purpose take him out, we have enough incompetent professionals out there we don’t need ones that are purposefully malicious
thank you apbt55, i’m going full force with this!
I’ve been searching google for some ENT doctors around my area, I have found a few in toronto which is not far from where I live. I’ll go to each one and see what they say like you said.
I just don’t understand how the doctor could say to me “fighting is done for you” like geez there are pro fighters out there and more fighters who have had MANY broken noses, and how come my one condition leaves me that I cannot fight anymore and it’s done for me just like that.
I’m guessing because I am young (just turned 19) he thinks he can talk me out of it or something, but yeah he just said it’s done, don’t get in the ring etc etc. He made me actually SHY to ask questions because I didn’t feel comfortable going against a doctors words but this man gave me no suggestions for ANYTHING else other than it’s done for me.

If discussing this with her would not make either one of you uncomfortable I would really appreciate hearing from another fighter girl on this subject. Thanks very much!

This doctor’s behavior is extremely offensive!! I’m glad you’re pursuing other doctors’ advice & possible legal action. Good luck!
Before I got my surgery I got my nose cauterized a couple of times. They poke around with a stick that burns. The ent stuck a camera up my nose, it wasn’t comfortable at all.
My nose still looked the same after surgery. My cousins nose looked the same except it was “Mushy”. After surgery I had to leave splints for 7days. That sucked, but I’m glad with the results.
I got my nose broken during my first fight. Like you, I didn’t notice for a little while. Lucky for me I didn’t get an abscess or an infection. I never did go to a doctor about it right away, though it hurt for over 2 months.
When I finally did he basically said that it healed and to not worry about it. I got a bloody nose like a faucet every time I even got tapped for four months after that which sucked. Now, when I blow my nose I can feel air escaping into the corner of my right eye. I think there is now a space in between the cartelidge and bone.
As for you, I totally agree you need to see another doc. Don’t ever let a doctor dictate to you what to do with your life. Also, doctors have an interest in convincing you that whatever they did is fine. Get another opinion.
Doctors don’t always help. Find a good doctor who will and wants to help you…
I went through my coach to a guy who does all the medicals for fighters.
Problem with him was he decided it was part of the medical to give me a breast exam. Found out from one of the other chicks who went to him that she didn’t get one …Hrmmm…shit. Glad I said no when he asked about a papsmear!
Aside from that if you’re thinking of surgery there isnt much stopping you… Most doctors have pay plans and whatever you get done is generally going to be an improvement.
About the implants… I have considered it but am concerned about the extra weight when it comes to weighing in… I have natural DD’s but when I cut for a fight they shrink heaps!
