Fight of the Decade

Why?
I think this is an MMA is better than boxing post.

No, this thread will not be created because the answer is obviously an MMAer. That’s why pretty boy shut his mouth after Dana White called him out and offered Sean Sherk up to fight him.
Mayweather would destroy Sherk in the boxing ring. So what?

I love MMA and boxing, and I think people who think MMA emulates a street fight or a real combat situation probably don’t get out much.

How about this.

Stop toeing the party line.

You’re eating whatever the fuck Dana White is feeding you and its so fucking obvious it hurts. The only people that say shit like “boxing is dying” are people who hug the nuts of the UFC. Boxing has been “dying” since the 50’s… And looky its still around.

In the original olympics there were 3 combat sports…

Boxing, Wrestling, Pankration (aka MMA) They all coexisted and survive today. No one is saying that wrestling is dying… even though it doesn’t exist on a stage as big as MMA or boxing.

It’s amazing to me that you don’t even see how deluded you are acting, go educate yourself on something outside of Dana White’s verbal vomit while the adults talk please…

?

I really didn’t want this to turn into this kind of stupid debate.

We may as well be arguing that the Giants are cooler than the Raiders… it’s a goddamn opinion.

It sucks, because it alienates me from MMA, even though I love rolling myself, probably about as much as boxing.

Either way, that Margarito-Cotto fight shook up boxing in a big way. I’m thrilled that Margarito showed up, and reminded all of us that practice combat sports exactly what heart is, and how far it can carry you in these arts of ours.

Nothing better than a man who comes from the streets of Tijuana and fights with the memory of his murdered brother in his heart and his wife’s name on his trunks… and now is the king of the world.

Beautiful.

It was truly what boxing was all about, and why, even though it is corrupt and brutal, beautiful things can still happen in when guys rise from the bottom to the top, where they oughta’ be.

Ahhh here we go. This is the stereotype of MMA fans right here… and hence why I don’t like MMA.

Let me guess buddy… you don’t like your dad, you’ve got crappy tribal tattoos, you were born in the suburbs, and now that you learned how to do an armbar you go around telling everyone you do MMA and are thinking of going pro?

Am I close?
AHAHAHAHAHAHAH!

To be honest, wrestling is dying–at least in the United States–as colleges continue to cut their programs. In fact, I was just reading an article not too long ago about a potential move by wrestling to a submission style sport. Globally, I don’t think it’s anywhere near dying though.

That is pathetic and sad.

I hope that trend reverses itself… I wonder how it is at the high school level?

High School is thriving… and internationally its just as big as ever… in the united states on the decline but a lot of good american wrestlers are going to school in japan and such because they’re getting offered full scholarships etc

True dat, and you can thank title fucking nine. Equality for inferior athletes is killing one of the best sports in America.

Wow. Quinn, you need to get a clue, brother.
You should get a clue, that’s what happened. Floyd was talking shit about MMA and then Dana challenged him to fight Sherk in the octagon. Floyd took it all back because he realized that he would get destroyed in a vale tudo environment. He is the best boxer in the world but Sherk would annihilate him due to his standup defensive abilities and awesome takedowns.

If Dana White would ever let Silva box Roy Jones Jr. then we’d have a match.

You’re obviously a douchebag who knows nothing about me. I hate Dana White’s guts, so there goes your whole argument.

Boxing and wrestling are esoteric events nowadays. You have to truly be a fan to know what’s going on and appreciate the ability. MMA provides a gladiator-like arena of anything-goes that anyone can watch and enjoy. That’s why it’s growing and boxing is declining. The trend will continue.

Big fucking deal. Put Sherk in the ring, Floyd owns his ass. Who gives a fuck?

They’re two different sports you pric bitch!

Maybe now, because Roy is old.

In their respective primes, RJJ murders everyone his size in a boxing match… he proved it for a good 15 years.

Gladiator like?

HAHAHAHHAHH.

Motherfucker, until I see tigers and swords up in that bitch, don’t ever use that word in relation to MMA ever again.

Even back then, they had gladiators, and then they had competitive athletes. Neither MMA fighters nor boxers are fighting for their lives.

Stop trolling and go back to sherdog.

I have to say I love MMA hell I want to compete in it, and I got into MMA first but I also have grown to love Boxing and Kickboxing. One problem I find with MMA is that it has so many world class grapplers but very few world class strikers after watching a good boxing match watching most the stand-up portion of an MMA match can be just painful.

I also don’t get this disrespect for boxing by many MMA fan. None of the top fighters(that I know of) disrespect boxing in fact many of them train boxing and show it a great amount of respect. There is a weird mindset in the combat sports world that you can’t enjoy two different combat sports, yet you don’t often see a football fan bashing basketball or vice-versa some might enjoy one more than the other but there is no vitriolic hatred, so why can’t one enjoy both Boxing and MMA.

I think most of the more level headed of us in the forum do enjoy both, or at the very least can appreciate them all despite a preference to one or the other.

Just ignore the bullshit.

Gladiator-like is called a “hyperbole”, google what that means because you probably didn’t graduate high school.

And sorry, I love my dad, I have no tattoos and I don’t tell people I practice MMA, I just study jiu jitsu that’s all. Soooo no, I just like the sport that has a wider range of technique and more excitement.

WOW! And you can spit out big 10th grade English words too? HOLY SHIT! Now, that’s impressive. How about antecedent, irony, metaphor, oxymoron, paradox, personification, simile, synecdoche, and understatement?

I’ll post the quiz next week. Good luck!

First of all I don’t think just “anyone” who see’s the sport knows what an Omoplata is. In fact it wasn’t that long ago that I had to explain that the guy on the bottom was pulling guard, not just laying there. If you think a person who doesn’t know a thing would recognize a triangle, you’re sorely mistaken. People have become more educated yes, but I think a it takes less to “know what’s going on” in a boxing match then in MMA.

As for the whole “Sherk would destroy Mayweather” point. Lance Armstrong came in like 488th this year, that doesn’t detract from his status as a cyclist. I’m a Sherk fan but he isn’t the worlds best wrestler, nor its top stand-up fighter. He’s great in his sport, that’s why he competes in MMA and Mayweather is in boxing.

You can’t dig out of a hole, so getting mad at everyone else because you’re saying stupid shit doesn’t help.
