fiber..

This might be a silly question, but do you count fiber as a carb. I read the answer in a reader mail, but that was towards a low carb diet. I fallow beredi’s don’t diet plan, so say an apple has 17 grams of carbs, and 3 of those are fiber… Do you say it has 14?.. And what for those science buffs out there, I’d really really apreciate an reason why.

I also read that fiber might coat so to speak food, and prevent digestive enzymes from breaking down some of the macronutrients… If this is the case, wouldn’t it be wise to avoid fiber with P+F meals?
Thanks

Hey G what state do you live in? Yes, most count it-it is just the way it has always been.

fiber is a non-digestible part of the food that adds bulk to stool. you can subtract it from the carb count becuse it will not be broken down.

Pauls right, you can’t digest fiber so you can’t derive any calories from it. So for calory counting purposes you can exclude the fiber grams.
