In CT’s article - the best reps-
"Q: If the first leg (six reps) was challenging but the second one, with half the weight, was too easy, what do I do?
A: This is one of the reasons why record keeping in a training journal is so important. Remember, you should cut down the weight by around half with each drop. However, depending on your strength, muscle-endurance, and levers, this decrease might be either insufficient (you won’t be able to get 12 reps) or excessive (12 reps will be too easy)."
If I am able to use more than half the weight on the second leg of 6-12-25, what does this indicate about fiber dominance. (Assuming that the 6 rep set was not too easy)
A lower amount of fast twitch?
Says more about your previuos training then it does about your fiber dominance.
To compare fiber dominance you might want to compare a low rep set weight to high rep set weight with enough time to fully recuperate between sets. Even then it’s still highly reflective of training more than fiber dominance.
Exactly! I don’t know whether there’s merit in determining fiber types for elite athletes as Poliquin often claims, but I think it’s a load of horse shit to think you’re dominant one way or the other, without some sort of biopsy.
And a waste of time either way. Just train and do what works for you. Any time I see a coach recommending a test or something to determine fiber type, it just sounds like hype to me.
Furthermore, you never see the coaches that really back their stuff up with science referencing fiber-type predominance.
Waterbury, Cressey, Robertson, Gentilcore, et al never talk about an innate tendency toward one type or another. Sure, they may refer to excessive endurance training as bad, or whatever, but I maintain that determining your “innate tendency” is a waste of time.
