I know the first comment to this is post a video, its coming soon.
I’ve been doing deadlifts for the last month and just started getting heavy (or at least heavy to me, 265lbs 3 sets 5 reps). I’m noticing that I am feeling it slightly in my low back and I’m wondering if its because I am starting to lift a bit with my back before I activate my legs (probably due to some psychological lift with your arms issue) or if it could just be because I am not used to doing exercises that require a certain level of back rigidity? I only really feel it right after, an hour later and I’m fine.

As long as you are keeping your lower back fixed in place (it doesnt move when you lift) then you are fine. Deadlifts will work your lower back, and you will feel it.
Starting every rep dead on the floor instead of “touch n go” makes me use better form and use my back less. Maybe this could help you. But deads work your lower back.
