Feel Weak When You're Really Not?

This happens to me sometimes - I’m tired, lethargic and weak on warmup sets, am seriously considering just forgetting the whole thing and taking a day off, but as soon as I hit the first work set I find out I’m not only stronger than I thought, but end up banging a couple more reps than I’ve ever been able to before…

Weird. Is there a name for this, other than “laziness”?

Only seems to work when the first exercise is deadlift or squat, though…

Its called getting your lifting head on. Your distracted, can’t concentrate properly until the weight demands it, THEN your OK.

Practice getting your attitude right, even before you get to the gym, then the warm ups feel even lighter and the work sets are more productive.

Yeah, I get this every now and then.

Almost feel like not going to the gym, get there and do a few warmups and suddenly have the best workout for months. Doesn’t matter on the exercies for me though.

Kind of makes me push through any laziness I do get incase I set a new PR.

Fajnie.

Just goes to show you should go for it - you never know.

this is why i try to make every set a work set to failure, the faster i can get into the high intensity mindset the more productive the workout will be for me

I have to lift at 7:30 in the morning. It’s not bad for some of you, but I am not a morning person. I always feel tired before I get there. But then I start getting into it, and it feels great. Honestly, I just want to kick my ass into getting better after the first warm-up set; therefore, I have intensity no matter what time now.

dynamic warm ups, use them.

you need to wake up your cns.

Everyone has bad days.

The ones who make it to the top are the ones who work through them.
