Besides the DL, I like the Gironda Bench Press. It is quite different from ordinary BP. You lift your legs and cross them, like for a crunch motion. You then lift from your chest so the bar is above your nose or even further back. You don’t push straight up but slightly toward your head.
Can’t use nearly the weight and I do it in a power rack for safety, but it activates more muscle (IMHO).
Why would you cross your legs? I have never understood that.[/quote]
I think it is to destabilize you and make your upper body control the weight. I read about the lift and tried it, liked it. It felt a little like pressing dumbbells.

I still don’t get it though. For me, it just seems unsafe. I have tried it once, and I did not like how it felt at all. Maybe if you have a wider grip, it wouldn’t be as bad, but once you get a closer grip, there is no point anymore.

I do it in the cage. It is supposed to feel wierd. Gironda was famous for doing lifts and techniques to shock your body and keep it growing. Remember the drag curl? M. Makowi (spelling is terrible) credits Vince and wierd lifts like that for winning an Olympia.
i just started doing deadlifts and they are so fun. i got straps now and i can concentrate on feeling the weight all over w/o worrying about my grip failing and the bar falling on the ground.
the farmers walk sounds really hard. i hate carrying over heavy dumbells to do crunches with

I know what you mean, but maybe I don’t like the Gironda bench because I suck at the regular one anyways.
