Favorite IPhone/IPod Touch Gym App

like GymBuddy more than iFitness

and I use the LoseIt program to track my nutrition

I hate to be the one smearing poo all over this thread, but how exactly would an app on a overhyped music player thats the size of a R2D2 that I strap to my bicep help anybody build muscle? I agree with esk, when I had a log book I had me a little cheapo Mead memo pad. Thats it.

try keeping track of numerous workouts for clients, then it gets a bit tricky. I’m good with #'s, but not that good

Memory works pretty good too…

The Ipod App helps keep me motivated and progressing…I’d like to see them incorporate an artificial intelligence diet program into it that tell you exactly what to eat at which time to maximize gains and minimize fat.

I love technology, and Jessica Alba…

I also use the memory method and then write it down in my logbook when I get home. I’ve got them dating back 30 years. They make a great reference to what worked and what did not. I’m old and I like to see my workouts in print.

you’re using it for work to track your clients, that’s different than just tracking your own progress. if i trained multiple people i’d have to write it all down too, i’m not rainman.

GymBuddy app = $2.99

Paper and pen from my company’s office supply cabinet = FREE

Paper and Pen FTW. Who pays for iPhone apps!? You probably ring up a $500 bill with the supp companies every month too eh?

memory works…

Maybe you need a log if you’re a newbie, but after a few weeks shouldn’t it just be engraved in your mind? It should be routine, like you could do it while you’re sleeping. If not, you either have a really low IQ (no offense) or you don’t pay enough attention to your time in the gym.

Well I can’t remember how much I lifted 3 weeks ago on a given exercise with 100% accuracy. I guess that makes me inattentive and stupid.

I hear you, apparently I am some retarded because I couldn’t tell you that on Tuesday at 4:00 on March 22nd I benched 175. My memory is pretty descent but I use gym buddy on my Itouch to keep track of what I did and when. I could use a pen and paper but honestly it only takes a second two enter in all sorts of useful data, and my Itouch plays my music so I already have it on me.

It’s way better then pen and paper! I have been lifting for a while now and this app has really helped me get back on track, i didn’t realize how off track I really was. You pick the workout and then the exercise, the touch screen allows you to enter the weight and reps…Your previous workout shows right below…It’s a luxury for sure…Plus it’s already on your Ipod touch which you already probably use to listen to music…

This is useless. What do you do when you finish your set? start clicking around on your touch screen? That suck. The only thing you need is to write 1-the excercise 2-the rep schem 3-your weight 4-How much reps you got. Then you beat your number of rep the next time.

You dont need some stupid gadget

I love the people acting like hot shit because they don’t even use a log book (except you GB, you are hot shit).

Do your sets, write the shit down, and continue. I don’t have an ipod touch or an iphone, but after some sets I’m out of breath and I can’t fucking operate my pen, why would I try to operate some little device.

My effort in the gym goes to lifting weights, not remembering what I did 3 weeks ago or last week or whatever. That’s what the fucking log book is for, that’s why I bring it. I really don’t give a shit how much I lifted, as long as I can beat what it says in the book.

no, I use it for myself. I also track my clients’ #s on paper ;), but it all runs together after a while

different strokes for different folks

I use the pandora app on my iphone for my music while lifting. I just put it to Disturbed and it plays all kinds of badass music that gets me pumped. I use a regular log book for tracking my training.

QFT!

I’m not going to waste time trying to remember how many reps I got for all 3 minisets in my triple RP lat pulldowns the previous week. I know the weight I used…but I can’t remember if I got 9,4,2 or 10,5,3 etc…

Is it necessary to know this? I thought it was the total reps that mattered.

Even still, I’m in the gym for 4-8 hours a week. I’m OUT of the gym 160 hours a week. All the weights I used on every exercise doesn’t get any special place in my brain. Not to mention, if I wanted to look back to say, 8 weeks ago and check my progress. Am I progressing to slow? am I doing great? It makes life a lot easier to just flip a few pages. I also make notes to myself about form, or how I’m feeling on that day or any random shit.

Anyone, this is a total hijack. I don’t even own an ipod touch or iphone.

Oh, I agree completely. I’ve always jotted down info about my workouts and am considering starting up a log (maybe on this site) in order to better keep track of my progress and thoughts. Right now I just use scrap pieces of paper that I always end up losing and feel it would be nice to have something or someplace to keep track of my numbers and random thoughts so I can keep my head wrapped around my training a little better (right now I’m just erasing last weeks numbers from my scrap paper when I set new ones).

So, I’m definitely not “anti-training log”… just making sure I wasn’t missing out on some subtle detail of the rest-pause technique.

I love the LoseIt! application, it’s wonderful for tracking your foods. It tells you your macros and everything.

I like the Tabata timer- although someone needs to figure out a way to adjust the volume of the timer without having to raise the volume of the music.
