Buffalo Trace
Jim Beam and a six pack of Killians
Replace the Beam with Crown and I’m your huckleberry.

$20 wouldn’t buy that ha I would replace it with Jamesons personally.

If you’re into pilsners (think Heineken) then try out Grolsch. 8 pints will set you back about $20, presumably a pretty happy $20 too.
+1.
Fantastic beer. We importet some of it for a friends birthday after he came home from interrail, one of the better pilsners.

I like Westvleteren 12 so much I’m heading back to Brussels next year just to get some.

When not drinking in an Abbey, Coopers Sparkling Ale from Australia, Rochefort 10 from Belguim, and Unibroue’s Maudite from Canada would top the list. Though I do tend to drink a lot of Jack as well. :)
Good Choices , you are a lucky bastard to try the Westy - Also, the Westmalle Trippel is solid.
I’m lucky to be in the midwest with some of the best concentration of quality breweries in the world. I haven’t had any of the Russian River stuff including the Pliny’s or the Alchemist’s Heady Topper, but they are tops on my wish list

APA - Zombie Dust from Three Floyds
Imperial IPA - Hopslam from Bells
IPA - Founders Harvest Ale
Porter - Great Lakes Brewing Porter
Stout - Founders Breakfast Stout
Imperial Stout - Founders KBS, Goose Island Bourban County Stout and Bell’s Black Note Stout

@ Chobbs – The Founders Breakfast Stout and Harvest Ale are out as is the Zombie Dust (Crazy good!) if you can find it that is… You are in beer heaven in northern Indiana…

Try the Pacific Northwest if you want to up your game.
Very good area too, Hair of the Dog, Deschutes, Boneyard, Cascade, Freemont etc… The Abyss could easily be the best Imperial Stout ANYWHERE. I don’t like to say one area is better than another, because let’s face it, BOTH areas have GREAT beers… you have a slight edge overall i.e. MORE great beers , but I’ll take the 10 best beers from the midwest over anybody expect maybe California. Even that is kind of stupid because there is such a small difference between what are all awesome breweries… I’d love to be able to taste all of those northwest breweries extensively, but they don’t distribute out here. I’ve only got to sample a select few. Your welcome to send me a sample pack … that may get me to move out there LOL.

Oh Yeah, I totally agree with a prior post - the old rasputin and the Stone Imperial stouts are really nice. Just had the Stone espresso stout the other night…equally good. Have been drinking too much stout lately… going to see what new ales I can find today. They are suppose to be getting in some nice stuff from one of the top Colorado breweries soon. We shall see…

Yeah any microbrew with a double IPA, will make a man out of you. Plus you only need a couple to feel it. Belgian Whit beer is amazing, I highly recommend any unfiltered microbrew as well, the taste is amazing and commercial beer ain’t allowed or inclined to have unfiltered beer. Taste is really noticeably different. If I have only 10 bucks I’m an old millwaulkee or pbr kinda guy.

In a way, I am sort of from Bend, OR. Great grandmother left her house to the family, where my grandpa was born, which is with us today. It sits on Mirror Pond. Perhaps you have heard of and/or drank Mirror Pond. The footbridge on the label really looks like that. That said, Inversion IPA is an easy choice over Mirror Pond, though it would not exist without all the practice they put into Mirror Pond.

I quite enjoy the ten minute walk to the original tanks of Deschutes brewery, from which many a glass of excellence have been filled for my enjoyment.

Spent a lot of time in Bend, awesome area…with several really good microbreweries.

What part of Indiana? I grew-up in the Hammond area. Did you go to the 3 Floyd’s Brewpub?

North of Fort Wayne in LaGrange. I haven’t had a chance to visit the pub yet, but I’m probably going to buy tickets to Dark Lord day. It’s the one day you can buy their best Imperial Stout…you have to win a golden ticket like fricking Willie Wonka… stupid, but they have made it a great marketing event. They had a pretty good line up of metal bands including High on Fire and Pig Destroyer as well…

I love imperial stouts. Right now I’m drinking one of the best ones I’ve ever had on Coronado Island.

Miramar, CA’s Hess Brewing - Ex Umbris rye Imperial Stout. 10.2% ABV.
First of all I’m jealous that your at Coronado - it’s our families favorite city to visit. Last time we were there was 2009 and Hess wasn’t even around. I checked out the brew at Beer Advocate … how does the rye affect the taste? I also noticed they make a coffee porter… been looking for a porter that pushes the style a bit more - it sounds interesting. So many beers and so little time LOL…

Sockeye Dagger Falls IPA

Dogfish Head 60 Minute IPA

…the cause of and solution to all life’s problems…

I live around the corner from a microbrewery that does a great IPA, Bellwoods Brewery in Toronto; “Witchshark”, 9%. The (gastro) pub itself is a bit of a pain in the arse, but that particular beer is fantastic and I prefer the bottles from the take-away next door anyway…

They also do their best at the great American traditionals, the Boston Lager or Brooklyn Lagers, which don’t get a lot of rep up here.

Eight bottles of this and you’re really finished…

My favorites change on a monthly basis but currently a local beer, Surly Furious

I personally think Boston Lager and most brews from Sam Adams (their pale ales are good though) taste like ass. I’m not sure if it’s the malt or what, but I have the same issue with Rogue’s Dead Guy Ale and Abita’s Andygator… just has a rotten, pungent taste.

In other news, I was at world market the other day and got a few singles from “Dia de Los Muertos” brewing… they aren’t worth the money, in case anyone else has seen them. Visually pleasing packaging though :stuck_out_tongue:
