Fatima Whitbread and Her Troupe of Squirrels

Well this is a (painful) step towards progress. Long term gain, right?

yeah, no pain, no gain and all that.

I would have put off the surgery but I just wasnt able to walk properly, nevermind anything more complicated than that.

The general anaesthetic was great though. I saw what they took out of my knee (half a dozen bits of bone and cartilage each the size of my smallest fingernail) so a local anaesthetic wouldnt have been enough.

I think the problem originally stemmed from me reading some of this forums contributor’s squat numbers, and my knee just fell to pieces through me just thinking about lifting those sort of poundages.

must take up crochet instead

Wow, sounds awful. Do you have any plans for rehab?

naw not really, just to take it easy, get the stitches out and get back to lifting in good time

I wondered what had happened to you. But then again a lot of people join, log consistently for a few months then drop off the face of the earth.

So what happened with the knee? Surely if they had to remove lots of bits of cartilage you would have noticed symptoms earlier, do these sort of things come on that suddenly?

You could still train though. Lots of benching, OH pressing, seated upperbody stuff, chins etc

Glad you’re on the mend.

thanks,

it was a sporting injury from my teenage years which only gave me jip for a day or so every few years. I never felt it was neccessary to go under the knife for such a trivial matter. but this time it lasted for weeks and I couldnt walk, so there was no choice.

and as walking was a bit of an issue, i couldnt get to the gym without lots of funny looks and questions.

even then, doing light weights at home was a pain, can you imagine doing overhead presses on one leg, or benches with one foot in the air?

so I didnt bother, and watched a lot of tv instead

right, thats a long enough rest period, I really must get back into lifting. hopefully Ive still got time to get in shape for the Christmas holidays…

Hey, he’s back!

Hi Cav,

I never went away really, Ive just been lazy in the gym, done a lot of running and I pop up in some of the forums in T Nation now and then but find that they generally dont get the joke/I’m too annoying for them

is all well with you and the others here?

Well, I just got off a year training with some world class / national class lifters, they improved my conditioning but did zilch for strength. Now taking it easy with 5x5 and seem to be getting some gains. Job wise, barely making ends meet. The others seem to be doing fine.
