I don’t even know where to begin. As a person who works in healthcare, and more specifically, evaluates the health of potential organ donors (who are dead or dying) for a living I can tell you without reservation that being fat is absolutely the WORST long term health related lifestyle choice a person can make (with the possible exception of abusing certain very dangerous illegal drugs). It’s worse than smoking or excessive drinking. For an organization claim, not only that this is OK, but to provide strategies to prevent society from encouraging change is beyond irresponsible, it’s downright evil.
Do you know what the majority (depending on where you draw the line)of very obese people worldwide have in common (besides that they eat too much and aren’t active enough)? It’s that they live in the United States, by far the wealthiest country in the world. Think that could be a coincidence? Are these people really trying to convince themselves that they have no control over their problem? The vast majority of people in the world don’t even have the resources to over-eat. Let’s pretend for a minute that fat people don’t eat more than other people (they do, but for the sake of argument we’ll say they don’t). So what? If you gain weight eating what everyone else eats, then you have to eat less than everyone else. (But I’m still hungry! Whaah!) It’s called self-control, it’s what separates us from the animals. You know how civilization started? Some chimp-like creature a few thousand years ago resisted the impulse to eat and fuck for a while and built something he thought would be useful in the future.
And yes, I believe there are certain people who don’t respond significantly to diet or exercise. How many are there? By my calculations there should be just about ONE for every genetic mutant capable of winning a Mr. Olympia. How many is that? A few thousand, in the whole world? What if it’s more, a few million? Certainly not the tens or hundreds of millions NAAFA would like you to believe. I’m going to start a few new websites and link them to NAAFA’s. Smokers who can’t quit but want you to love them anyway and let them smoke in your face, alcoholics who can’t quit but want you to love them anyway, and want you to let them introduce legislation to stop discrimination against them when they drive, and drug addicts who can’t quit (even with help) and want you to see there’s nothing wrong with it (and want you to feel responsible for footing the bill for their healthcare).
Check out NAAFA's position on physical fitness they have posted on their site. Can fat people achieve a high level of cardiovascular fitness? Yes, but they'll probably need knee replacements early in life. Can they develop a high level of strength conditioning? Sure, you should have seen the fat sack of crap that won a local power lifting competition (hey, if I only had to push the bar three inches and were packed into a Kevlar shark suit I could bench 500, too). Can they maintain a high degree of mobility? Of course (so long as they can fit into bathroom stalls and don't break the toilet off the wall, and can fit in an airplane seat). Are they still doing horrible things to their health in spite of these things? Hell yes. There is not one disease, not one, that obesity doesn't exacerbate.
Bottom line, dieting works. Exercise works. Long term lifestyle changes work. For everyone. If you can’t resist the temptation to eat Oreos then don’t keep them in your house. If you don’t like exercise, do it anyway. Ya, it sometimes sucks. It seems like this Vince imbecile and some overweight people think bodybuilders were able to accomplish their fitness goals because it was easy for them. It isn’t, but it is worth it.
