Riely, I agree with Coach D. As a martial artist, we practice a lot of the drills he suggests…at panic speed. When I want to cut a few pounds off the abs, I go on a keto diet usually, (T-dawg currently) however the first week is like a death sentence when I am in class. After the first week it gets better, but I would NOT suggest combining Coach D’s routines with dieting (keto at least) until you have a serious baseline of cardio conditioning…or you will keel over and die. I consider myself in great cardiovascular shape (I compete in the MA…and do quite well)however dieting and class just become torture…both from a muscle endurance and intensity standpoint. I suggest learning his drills when you are not dieting so you get an idea of the intensity required, and then possibly consider a few of the routines when dieting
Well this rope ‘warm up’ sounded pretty cool so
I tried it last night. Riley I can second what you said, it kicked my ass too…
Followed it up with a leg workout. I tried those hamstring thingies where you hold the
feet down and extend foreward to the ground
then back up. oh shit. I cramped big time after
the second set. Interestingly enought though, after stretching them a little, the third set
was much easier than the first two.
Its only been 12 hours since the workout and my
hams are screaming at me big time.
I can only imagine what tomorrow is going to bring!
Coach Davies, my turn to thank you for the great input you’ve had here lately.
I’m looking foreward to your next article.

Thanks for the heads up whopper-- I wouldn’t want to strain myself. I thought that working out was just that: working out. No seriously, I completely understand what you are talking about. Being a veteran of ketogenic diets (CKD, Metabolic, T-Dawg, Fat Fast), I have suffered large drops cardio capacity, endurance, and performance levels. Also, my energy levels really bottom out by the second or third day of the diet until my body starts using the ketones (or stimulants). But, it is hard to argue with the fat loss that takes place. I generally want to deplete my glycogen reserves as much as possible before refueling at the end of the diet, after a full body workout (much like the warrior diet). In my opinion, Coach D’s programs are perfect for this. Thanks for the reminder though!
Coach Davies, I’m looking forward to many articles and hopefully some books from you in the near future! In the meantime, I’d be greatly interested in a workout for Monday. Please feel free to post something! Thank you.
Coach davies i to would like to see the routine for monday if you don’t mind posting it.Also you said in another post that you have published works what are there names and where could i get them, i know that you are probably going to say if i have a question just post it but i would simply just like to read some of you works as it is a productive pastime, and i have to admit that i greatly admire all of which that you have posted so far and appreciate it also, infact you have inspired me to write an article myself which i hope to be putting the finnishing touches to tomorrow ( such as spell checking it and looking for punctuation and grammar mistakes which is something i don’t usually do but have been ben more carefull of lately).
happy training and productive workouts
In response to the book question - you’re all doing a good job at convincing me to publish. I have resisted because in truth training for an athlete has such an enormous range of topics that 1 book cannot satisfy. But you’ve got me tempted. I have focused my efforts on mentoring coaches through the writing of training programs. My programs, of which I have written over 12 separate years of training, are designed for both general conditioning and highly specialized.
Yes you are right - I probably would have just said I would answer your questions but it looks like you have convinced me to be more approachable.
For all of you on this post, I am looking forward to putting together next week. If you have any questions or comments, just ask.
In faith,
Coach Davies
Riely, please understand…didnt mean to insult you…I just didnt know your level of experience…so I erred on the side of caution. Too many newbies are too gung-ho…so I try to present a voice of reason. Good luck to you!!
