Fat Loss or Muscle Gain First?

First, some background. I am 34, 5’10, weigh 170 lbs with 17% BF. I have been lifting for a couple four months now. I have not done little cardio-mostly weights. I have been using John Berardi’s Don’t Diet formula with some success as my BF was at 19%. Obviously, I am what they call “skinny/fat.” My question is this: I want to do a cycle of Mag-10 to put on some size, but I am concerned about fat gain as that is to be expected with the program especially with my high BF%. However, if I diet to drop my fat percentage before Mag-10, I will be incredibly skinny. Let’s say I drop about 15lbs to get me to to around 10% BF. That puts me at 155 lbs. Not a pretty picture. If any of you out there has had a similar situation and can offer any advice on the direction I might take, it would be greatly appreciated.

Lose the fat first. A newbie can build muscle and lose fat at the same time. Do more research.
