thanks guys!!! i’m think’n of hitting an 800lb reverse band squat tomorrow. it’s all of 800 at the top but drops off to about 675 at the bottom. i hit 765 this past week. do you think that’s over stepping it?? it’s the last day of this squat cycle.

I say go for it.

Off topic, I got a question for you MM: should your floor press be higher than your bench, or the other way around? I have heard differing opinions of this. My best bench is 360lbs raw, while my best floor press is 340lbs. Any input?

i guess it really depends on how strict you do your floor press. i do floor press with legs out straight, flat back, narrow(er) grip, really tuck the elbows and pause at the floor. my floor press is about 50lbs behind my full ROM bench. i could see how it could be closer or even more if one was to keep their feet on the floor, arch into it and bounce their upper arms off the floor.

if done in my opinion, the correct way, there’s no way it could be higher. you have no leg drive, no arch and no stretch reflex.

I have my feet flat on the floor, knees bent, slight arch, but absolutely no bounce. I pause on the floor.

I really should invest in a cheap digital camera.

Just freaking incredible lifting here. I watch those 700+ pound squats and benches, and I can feel myself getting all tight and anxious just watching!!! I’m like, growling with you while your lifting!

Awesome.
thanks hoss!! i would be more than happy to take a slap from you… just dont’ hold back.

that sounds about right then. i would go legs straight on these though. feet on the floor can lead to pushing and then the old ars flyes up. take the lower body totally out of it.

If your feeling it go for it! I seen the video of your 765 and you crushed it, I think you are good for 800.
it’s settled then. tomorrow night 800 is going for a ride. if i can walk it out and get my feet set i’ll own it.

as you all know, i’ll be whore’n it up on video.
PeteS wrote:
what’s the worst that could happen? you’re in a power rack after all. Biggest concern is how are you gong to fit enough hex plates on the damn bar.

on a side note I know of one situation where a floor press can be stronger than a bench: when your shoulders are fucked.
we have four 100lb plates. i guess i’ll be lugging all of them up onto the bar. they should give the bar some good whip.

my only concern is missing a lift. i really hate that. i go a little (more) crazy each time i miss a big lift. usually i like to take weight jumps no bigger than 20lbs… usually it’s 5 or 10. i started this cycle hitting a PR on my first week. i just don’t want to let my ego dictate attempts. but then again sometimes you have to swing for the fences.

doesn’t look like your shoulders are (too) fucked there you big ape.

Thanks for the advice, I will let you know how it goes.

You mentioned this was the end of your squat cycle, what routine do you use to lift?

I just saw that the SPF has now established in Iowa. WTF, is this the south will rise again kinda thing? Maybe we can meet up there and my geared total can meet your raw total…

Yes, yes it will rise again.

Hell, we never went away. We were just laying low, stocking up on ammo and PBR
I think the plan this time is to demoralize the rest of the nation by the SEC taking it’s 4th National Championship in 4 years.

Meat, dude, you are just awesome. Sometimes when you say, to paraphrase, “I ain’t nothing special”, I want to drive over there and pop you myself. Not that I am that stupid, mind you. I have no desire to be powercleaned and body slammed  Great, great work!

Whaddya mean? Don’t forget, Al Gore invented the interwebz…and he is from Tennessee
No worries, Pete. We are killing ourselves by frying everything we plan to eat. But at least we will die with smiles between our plump, tender jowls.

can’t wait for that 8!!!

Yeah, did the 800 go? I got’s to know!
mathineer wrote:

Yeah - it went. Vid’s up on the u-tubes, but only meat has the right to post it here.

skwattt night… the last session of this training cycle. things, ultimately, went well. we threw four 100lb plates on the bar to start and then added 45’s after that. as it worked out, four extra 45’s added up to 805. therefore 805 was the goal tonight.

warmups went well. since we only have two guys, on the heavy sets i had dave spot me and then call depth. as we all know, calling depth from behind is difficult. as a result, dave called me a bit early on my first attempt. there was no way i was going to end the cycle on a high squat. i rested for a few minutes and wrapped up again. if you had told me that i was going to squat 805 twice tonight i would have laughed and said no way. anyway, i wrapped up and got a trainer to video while dave spotted and jowee called depth from the side. man… walking that shit out is the hardest part. any little extra move with those bands send you swinging. that’s the main reason i had dave behind me. a couple of times i stepped back and the bands put me back on my heels. i didn’t want that happening with 805. on the second attempt i luckily had a good step back. i was really fatigued and could feel it on the decent. i kept a good groove and powered through it. i’m glad that’s over.

reverse band squats
245x8
445x4
535x3
625x1
715x1
805x0- high

805x1 + 40lb PR

hack squat machine- long pause

2plates x 3
4 x 3
6 x 3
8 x 3
10 + 25lb plates x 3 + 50lbs from last week.

a good night. time to lay off the heavy squats for a few weeks.

That was a great effort. I’ll be seeing that in my head for awhile as I set up to squat my tiny-weights.

i have a feeling it will be very necessary for us to compete in different divisions. your gear total will be MUCH higher than my raw total. but that would be awesome to finally meet up. I don’t know if they would allow to silver backs in though. i think there’s a one silver back maximum.

i use a very bastardized Westside template. It’s evolved or devolved a lot over the past five years.

thanks bro. i just really love this sport. I don’t have any delusions that i’ll ever be one of the best but as long as i give all i have i’m happy. more than anything i want to stay healthy and put up a respectible total.
