Cheering you on with that.
Those were some crazy-long pauses! Gave me time to watch that dude behind you do some strange shit that I could not for the life of me figure out.
Fug, I am giving those Zerchers a try this weekend. Nice work. Good to see you on the road to recovery.
Nice pulling.
and nice zerchers and damn son long pause!
freak’n awesome night!!! it was a perfect end to my bench cycle. although it started out a bit shakey. I’ve been thinking about my 545 attempt all week. last tuesday after i hit 520, i knew i was going to go for 545 this week. it’s been eating at me all week. i’ve been playing it out in my head since last tuesday.
i couldn’t seem to get myself motivated on my warmups. all the way up to 495 i felt like i was just going through the motions. anyway, i sat down on the bench for my 545 set and knew i wasn’t mentally prepared. I stood up and looked at one of my training partners, jowee, and said “hit me!!” i’ve never asked for that in all my years of lifting because i’ve always been afraid of how i would react. i have a tendency to blackout when getting into “disagreements” and when i come to bad things have happened:) luckily it worked perfectly. it gave me just the psych i needed. unfortunately the vid doesn’t show the slap but you can hear Dave say that you could hear it across the gym. Next time, I asked jowee to put more behind it.
foam press
0x10
135x4
225x2
315x1
405x1
495x1
545x1-felt really good. only slowed down at the top.
Rep set
405x8
close grip, paused
315x8
circuit
pushdowns, seated calf raise and cable wrist curls
some x some x 3
next week we will start our next bench cycle. reverse band bench will be the main ME movement.
Nice bench. Vid shows the mark still on your face after you get up.
I have a similar problem with blacking out when struck - they keep calling it “fainting,” though, the bastards.

thanks… all the planets aligned for that bench. my shoulder is a little tweaked. nothing serious. i’m going to give it a break for the next four weeks and use the reverse band.
i’m sure you are joking:) do people actually faint?? i’ve blacked out from lack of oxygen but never fainted.
Stellar lift! Would’ve liked to have seen the slap, though. ![]()
Absolutely awesome, meat! Trying to think of another descriptor, but I think that covers it. Awesome!
Good job. And you called me a dirty PR whore. You even got smacked around in the process. One day you will become wise and dig that bench shirt out the closet…
Mr. Meat, awesome post/story and video. Truly captures what “The Iron” is all about.
(not that you’d care) If the slap had been on the video, I’m betting it would’ve made the Internet Hall of Fame, Weightlifting category…or something like that…
my tender face couldn’t take it. get some pneumonia caps
Great bench, Meat! Watch out on the slapping stuff though. Last thing you want is for the whole gym to start lining up like the scene from the movie, “Airplane”.
another freak’n awesome night!!! we hit up the reverse band squats. the way these are setup, they don’t take really anything off the top and about 100lbs off the bottom. warmups felt okay. was planning to hit two sets of two with 715. hit the first set and then decided to go for a heavy set of 1. loaded the bar with 745. this is the most weight i’ve ever had on my shoulders and i felt every pound.
as i was wrapping my mind around it i turned around and asked dave to hit me. he hit me once…wasn’t nearly enough. hit me again… a little better… hit me again!!! third one did the trick. i got under that shit, stepped out decended and blasted that shit!!! felt good.
reverse band squats
335x4
425x2
515x2
605x2
715x2 + 20lb PR
745x1 + 50lb PR
low zercher squats off risers- this is my new favorite supplemental movement. this is as low as i could get without my lower back rounding.
135x3
225x3
275x3x2
great fucking night. on a side note, after months of my lower back killing me and having no idea why… i found the reason by accident. i sleep on my side with one of those body pillows between my knees. i’ve always been told to do this to take pressure off the lower back. well… the other night i lost the damn thing in my sleep.
i was reaching around in the dark and found two of those big pillows that are only fooo shooo on the bed. i stuck two of those fuckers between my knees and bam!! no more back pain. my thinking is that the body pillow wasn’t nearly thick enough. my knees were still rolling in and putting a lot of stress on my hips and lower back.
these two big pillows actually push my knees out past my hips and take all the pressure off. if i was a betting man, i would say that was the cause of my disk problem to start with. i only started using the thick pillows three nights ago and i’m like a new man. before i was bent over like an old man in the morning until a hot shower loosen things up. tonight was the test. my lower back hasn’t felt this good in years.
being big is awesome and sucks at the same time. when i sleep i have to have these two huge pillows between my knees and i have to put another one up beside my head to hold my arm level. if i don’t, my shoulder drops and hurts like hell. oh to be a little guy.

y’know - you didn’t convince me.
Great freakin lifts. I watched the videos first on youtube and was going to ask how the back felt, but you answered that. Great news.
Great work. Great news about your back. And you didn’t convince me either.

So it was the fluffy pillows that hurt your back not the 8 million pounds of deads and squat…hmmmm. (Just f-ing with you)
I have a similar pillow set up. Between the legs, propping my arm up, hugging, under my head. I need at least 4 good temper pedic pillows to get comfortable.
The squat video just makes me feel… dirty. Nice work. So do you have the bands rigged around the rear of the rack?

yeah… i felt very dirty after that session. the kind of dirty that no shower can clean.
the bands are single choked about a foot back from the hooks directly above on the uprights. when hanging without weight the loops are right at the hooks. i put a 135lb bar in them and let it hang. it stretched about 6 inches below where it would sit on my shoulders in a parallel squat. that’s about as scientific as i get:)
All that slapping and screaming and, especially, the growling. Dirty, but in a good way. ![]()
The round of applause at the end was well deserved. That is a shit ton of weight to have on your back, much less to squat it to depth. Nicely done.
And, something tells me you’ll take the pillow set-up over being a skinny, weak dude.
