Dear Meatwinkle,

I havent bugged you for a while, but since were discussing whey protein, I have a question for you. my experience has been that whey protein gives one a serious case of the farts. I have tried to hold back my intake so that my family and coworkers dont have to live in constant fear of me crop dusting them into submission. Have you used or heard of anything that minimizes the whey farts?

thanks meng

everyone has that problem in the beginning but i’ve found that my body adjusts to it over time. until then, be a man and hot box every room you go into.

I appreciate you being an enabler in my quest to gas everyone I meet!

deads- another awesome day. today was definitly a turning point in my deadlift training. i’ve been having a tough moving up in weight when pulling at my sticking point. today i hit 675 right at my sticking point. it was tough breaking it off the risers but then it flew up. from this point out, i’m just going to add 5lbs to it each week. i’m also starting a 4 week cycle of speed deads from a 4 inch deficit. these are killer.

deadlift from sticking point- top of shin- conventional
135x6
225x4
315x4
405x4
495x2
585x1
675x1-wish i had video of it. forgot the camera. i’ll tape next weeks 680.

deficit pulls- 4 inch deficit- sumo
135x3
225x3
315x3x8- about 30 seconds of rest between sets

standing strict one arm dumbell military press
50x6
100x6
120x6

standing calf raise

some x some

another good session.

damn nice session! When you remember your camera could you get a video of your deficit sumo deads? That would help me out what the Dr ordered for me…

i use aerobic steps stacked up.

thanks.

Bench - things are progressing nicely. everything felt really good tonight. arms were a bit achey from the back squats this past weekend. i may have to limit my number of working sets to one or two. i don’t really feel the strain during the squats but lowering the weight on the bench really starts to make them ache. doesn’t really affect my performance though… just a pain in the ass.

bench- full ROM- touch and go

0x10
135x6
225x4
315x2
405x1
445x1,1,2 +5 lbs from last week - i did two on the last set becuase it was feel’n very light.

floor press
315x4
405x4
445x1

dips
BW x 6
BW +90lbs x 4
BW +135lbs x 4
BW +205lbx x 4- i held my breath for the entire set…not a good idea. i was going to do 6 or 8 reps and i started to black out on the 4th. it’s amazing how fast you go through oxygen when you are straining that much. you can see in the vid when i stopped on the fourth i almost feel down. i forgot what i was doing for a moment:)

truck’n along.

Huge pulls and great pressing, great work, looks like your healed up

Holy Hell.

Nice.

Well, shoving 500 lbs into the air more than once might take a bit outta ya, yeah. Almost back up to 225x5 on dips, meat. Nice going!

Stay healthy.

Well, well, well. The tables have turned, and now it’s my turn to school you, Meat.

I know it’s called a floor press, but you actually press the bar from the floor, you don’t press the floor itself. I’m sure you think the floor was heavy and all, but go back and try it the right way, and let’s see how much you can press.

Nice work!

Monty Python called…

They’d like you to write for them.

thanks guys. it’s definitely coming together. i’m right on that edge where i should start hitting all time PR’s again.

Great video  I read on another thread where you talked about holding your breath during reps. I held my breath on my close grip bench today and the weight flew up. I can only last through 4 reps :frowning:

it’s like anything, you have to practice to get better at it. 4 ain’t bad at all. I’ve worked up to being able to do 5 paused reps on the bench now. unfortunately breathing leads to losing tightness. most people breath out as they finish that first rep. that’s fine if you are only doing one rep but if you are doing a triple, the next two are going to be slower, with more ROM and less leverage. In my opinion, if strength is your goal, everyone should be attempting to hold that breath for every working set from 1 to 5 reps.

i found yesterday though that dips takes a lot more oxygen than benching does:)

Meat I see you , and many other lifter raise their head off of the bench as they press
can you explain the mechanics of that, thank you.

i do it for two reasons-

  1. i like to watch where to bar is touching on my chest.

  2. lifting my head brings more of the delts into the bench.

give it a try… you may like it:)
