Saturday morning workout

Bench press with 1 band: 135x10, 205x8, 225x6, 245x2
Bench press with 2 bands: 225x2, 105x6, 135x8
Decline dumbbell press: 2x75x8, 75x9, 75x6
Incline speed press: 135x7, 135x8, 135x9
CGP in the smith: 185x7, 185x6, 185x5, 185x4
Treadmill interval: 20 minutes

Used the bands on the bench. I’ll go in Wed or Thursday and work on some heavy doubles and triples. Hopefully I will find the time to cut out some boards and start some board work next weekend. I did the inclines as speed work for giggles and grins. By the time I made it to close grips I was used up. The treadmill was just added torture.

I went to a sawmill auction today. It was a mixed trip. The good part was the cypress and maples are starting to bud and fuzz out in the river swamps. I think I saw an osprey. I have yet to confirm the sighting. Spring is approaching!

The low part was seeing another peer/ competitor/ colleague go out of business. These are truly trying times in my little corner of the industry. I see good companies close and their owners struggle with doing right by employees and their companies. It is easy to be mad with predatory lenders, government, and irrational exuberance for these trying times, but it seems to be the sum of all things. There is no real culprit.

Enough of my soap box opinions. I should take that shit to the political forum… It’s back to the gym tomorrow!

Good bench workout. Post what you want here. It’s what’s always made our little corner of this site a bit different and better. Hell, we’re older. We’ve earned the right to ramble on a little if we want too.

I second that. Numbers only gets boring.

Sunday morning workout

Standing OHP: 115x10, 2x135x6, 135x2
T-bar Row 3x160x8
Lat pull down machine: 130x10, 2x150x8
Front dumb bell raises: 3x25x10
Chest supported rows: 115x10, 3x125x6
Treadmill interval: 20 minutes

WOW!! My band work on the bench took a real toll on today’s workout. I went in the gym with my shoulders and chest already a little sore. 135 felt heavy as hell on the OHP’s. I struggled thru parts of the rest of the workout. I’ll be back in the groove by mid week. I’m hoping to work on some heavy doubles and triples for a Wed bench workout. I think I’ll throw in some dips and some machine rows to wax my ass all over.

Picked up 5 lbs or so on the road last week. Between the airport food, eating on the road, dining customers and driving in the rain in LA I didn’t eat as healthy as I should have. I’ll admit I ate good as HELL! Especially the Vietnamese place I couldn’t find again in a million years. When I stumbled upon it the little lady in the GPS lady mad at me and only telling me to take an immediate U turn now.

Hope y’all have a nice Sunday!

I don’t have a problem with the commentary. Just makes things more interesting. Keep it up.

Willy, looking strong. The rambling is why I read your thread. I bet you’re funny as hell to hangout with.

One of Louis Simmons’ articles pointed out that you should expect much DOMS when using bands. This is due to the fact that it really accentuates the eccentric part of the movement.

I’m too big of a pansy (and tightwad) to get bands.

maybe I can make some out of old jock straps…

Tuesday Morning workout

Squats in the Smith: 135x10, 205x5, 225x5, 3x245x4
Dumbbell pushup ab thingies: 3x35x28
Incline leg raises 3 sets of 20

Overslept yesterday. Missed the workout. Had a good make up one today. Then I was off to central NC to visit customers and look at machinery. That makes for a long day! In my mindless driving I came within a whisker of running out of gas! I can be so dingy at times. Must be my blonde origins coming out

Wednesday morning workout

Barbell complex: 2x95x7, 95x10, 2x115x6
Treadmill interval: 10 minutes

Apparently a day of driving took its toll on me. I just couldn’t go on with the treadmill. I had to gut out the 6th rep when I went to 115 on the complex. I think Friday I may try for 7 sets. WTF, I do this because I like torture. That has to be the reason. I think I have chosen my career path for the same reasons.

Which is kind of funny. I am honestly anal about going to the gym because of my career path. As I stated early, and often in this log, I needed something I could control in my life. The gym seems to be that for me. As many in this turbulent time I ponder the realities of my personal economic situation. I try to apply the “Stockdale paradox” more today than I ever have. Reality says we can loose it all, but we have the hope to persevere. It’s funny how the morning complex and treadmill torture can calm the seas I am sailing in. I’m sure glad I resumed this journey.

Squats and abs in the morning. Heavy (for willy, that is) bench singles and doubles in the evening for tomorrow!

Thursday morning workout

Squats in the Smith: 135x10, 205x5, 225x5, 245x5, 245x4, 185x8
Dumbbell pushupabthingies: 4x35x20
Incline leg raises: 3 sets 20

Nothing much to report, just and average workout on a cold morning. My hammies and glutes are a little sore from Tuesday. That’s all good. I’m getting back in the saddle.

Hope y’all have a good day

Way to stick with the squats. You been switching up the exercises for the complexes?

Not as much as I should Eco. I have been increasing the reps and the volumes. I need to switch the exercises more

You’re strong in many ways willy. Keep up the great attitude and hard work, hope your weather is improving.

Thursday night workout.

Bench Press: 135x10, 2x225x5, 245x4, 3x275x1
Close grip pushdowns: 4x65x12
Front plate raise: 35x12, 35x10, 2x35x8
Dumbbell cleans: 4x25x8

The Daughter has ballet so I took a chance to slip off to the gym. I had a great workout but the weights were way heavy tonight. This happens every time I train at night. I’m already sore in the traps from the dumbbell cleans. Complexes will be fun in the morning!

Friday morning workout

Barbell complex: 5x95x8

I bagged the treadmill today. I was used up after the complexes. My young’un apparently has another stomach bug. She was taking a trip around EUROPE, buying a BUICK, hollering for EARL at 2 am. Couple that with the workout of Thurs evening, I should have passed on this morning’s. But I always feel better after getting the training in.

I have babbled enough. I better get to work.

ahhh, the joys of daddyhood!

Saturday morning workout
OHP: 95x10, 115x10, 135x8, 135x5
Assisted pull ups: 2xBW-85x6, BW-85x4, BW-85x2
Tbar Rows: 160x8, 160x10, 150x6
Lat Pull Down: 3x12x10
Front Dumbbell Raises 3x25x10
Chest supported rows: 3x115x8

I did hel’s infamous ass pull-ups supersetted with my OHP’s. That worked the pure snot out of me! I was pretty much useless the rest of the workout. Passed on the cardio. Had to come in to work. I’m feeling it a bit already. That is a good thing! Tomorrow is rubber band bench day. I NEED to get out here and make me some boards or the bench training as well. I’m beginning to be an “all talk” and “no walk” kind of guy about that!

You buy some rubber bands? Let me know how you like them. Great workout today.
