Fat, Bald, and D@%n Near 50

I’m getting the hairy eyeball for training at inconvenient times myself. Sometimes I get it for training at all, regardless of timing.

I don’t care. This is the one thing I care to do at all. If a certain someone doesn’t like it they can make their own decision what to do about it. I take care of my responsibilities and then I train. If that ain’t good enough - there’s the door and world full of non-trainers to spend time with if you like.

bummer about the blood work J. Don’t let it discourage you though, you know you are much healthier now than a year ago. And you’ll show as much improvement a year from now with your dedication.

Hey selfish, So did the doc recommend anything? Sounds like you’re already doing what you should be. Keep on keepin on and you’ll sse results.

Sunday morning workout

OHP: 95x12, 115x8, 125x8
T-Bar Row: 135x10, 155x8, 165x8
Lat pull down: 170x8, 180x8, 190x3
Lat dumbbell raise: 25x6, 25x8, 25x4
Rear delt raise in the smith: 95x10, 105x8, 115x5
Bent OH/Rev grip row superset: 135x10, 2x155x8

Treadmill interval:20 minutes

My assessment is average. Some weights felt heavy some were light. Did a form check on my dumbbell lateral raises from last week, and that lowered my working weights! I am using too much weight on the reverse grip side of my bent rows. I may go to strictly reverse grip with them for a while.

Raised the run speed and the angle of the dangle on the intervals. Worked the shit out of me. This new ITunes Genus thing makes the time go by fast at least! The youngun did pretty good on her audition, we will know something in a few days. But she has a urinary tract infection. Dad is her hero, he figured out how to crush her pills in ice cream. Now she gets ice cream sundaes with breakfast for a week.

Her mom (my wife) is still pissed at me for training yesterday. AT LEAST they are all getting a good night’s sleep!

Hope y’all have a good Sunday. Maybe I’ll get out of the dog house today!

I like the hairy eyeball term Skid. And you attitude is mine. It’s not like I’m not providing for them! Thanks for the support!

I went off a couple of meds to see the results, hel. I guess I see them. So its back on the meds, and re-double my efforts. Just a testing setback. I can train thru the lab work, so to speak

We all catch some heat from the wife for training from time to time. They just don’t understand it is essential for our well being to train.Chase it down willy.

Dammit to hell. I got a call from my Doc. All my levels are elevated. Triglycerides, cholesterol and liver enzymes over the last series of labs. I’m 11 lbs lighter and no real progress. This fucking sucks![/quote]

My triglycerides were over 300 and looking really bad, had been there for several years. My wife was more worried than she let on.

I started weight lifting and then started taking fish oil. In six months that dropped the triglycerides to 100. Losing about 70 or so pounds (from 265 to 175, guess that is more like ninety pounds, dang, was I really that fat!?) only dropped them 50 points.

You might really want to try the fish oil, works for about 75% of the people, given time and at least three a day.

It might help if she appreciates that it will improve your bloodwork and your health.

The weights are better than the silly cardio stuff (though there is good cardio as well). A lot of good science on that.

Hey, no heat dished out here! Why? Because I lift too!

Personally, I don’t understand these wives and their attitudes. Since when did marriage mean you get to be in charge of your spouse’s free time (or sleep patterns)? Willy, ignore the female drama. I have a dog who acts like that … thinks barking and nagging will get him what he wants. Fat chance! You fall for that kind of crap once and you’ll be playing that game forever. Besides, if you cater to it you’ll be teaching the younger version that drama works.

Keep charging the hill!

Monday morning workout

Barbell complex: 55x10, 2x95x5, 2x95x6
Treadmill interval 20 minutes

Typical ‘off’ day. Just tying to get some blood pumping and maybe a few extra calories burning. I end up working some kinks from the weekend out too!

Damn dreary day here! Fog, drizzle, and a projected high of 40. The only folks that live for weather like this are duck hunters, and the season went out here Saturday!

Willy, lifting is not even on my wifes radar. So if it interfers at all with anything even in the smallest way then I get flack. If only they really knew how important it is to us.

Even fish oil is very good, you should also try folic acid, vitamins B12 and B6, and also niacin (B3); with niacin there are people who have flushes that can be unpleasant. if you experience flushes you can avoid it by taking a little dose of aspirin (100mg) 1 hour before the niacin. There is also a med that I do not remember it´s name right now that is slow release niacin (this one is covered by some insurances)

Remember also that fiber traps fat so it can not make it´s way back from the gut to the system

Good luck and let me know if it work for you

I didn’t know the trick with the asprin, jav. I’ll try that. I flush with non-flushing niacin.

Thanks for the pointers

Tuesday morning workout:
Squat in the Smith: 136x8, 185x5, 205x5, 225x5, 175x10
Dumbbell ab pushup thingy: 3x40x12
incline ab pike leg raise something-a-ruther: 3 sets of 13

Just an average leg/ab day. I should of pushed up the weight some, didn’t have the motivation. Must have been all the talk of this winter storm we are supposed to have. I hate winter about like I hate cardio!

Note to self: You train to push your limits. Start pushing, you old fart!!

Average is no big deal, so long as you’re pushing up the average over time .

JW, though it goes against the analytical approach and general common sense I think you need to pick a day when you’re off work and just go ape shit on the weights. Push yourself and see what you can do. Think it might be good for the soul if not the body. You may also be starting a new workout fad called the “The JW Thingy and Something-a-ruther workout”. Keep going, you’re doing great. Average would be sitting at home on your butt working out with the remote.

You were a math major in college weren’t you? That’s a great observation skid. I think you are right hel. I need to lift more. I dont know about the JW workout, but damn it’s just fun!

Wednesday morning workout

Barbell complex: 55x10, 95x6, 4x95x5
Treadmill interval: 20 minutes

A typical hybrid cardio day. My shoulder bothered me a bit, I slept on it wrong. Still I worked up a good sweat.

I have been making a 40 mile ride from my home to the north to work towards the south for 20 years. Typically at any time
it’s 3 to 5 degrees cooler at home than at work. Today is one of those rare occasions where work is cooler. Amazingly it’s 10 degrees cooler with 3 inches of snow. At home we only had a dusting. Now you can imagine me busting around a curve at 60 mph and realizing the next 5 miles are covered with ice. 3 snowflakes in the flat lands really puts a real wrinkle in life here. But then we can take a Cat 2 hurricane with a yawn.

Yes, I was - as a matter of fact. Decided I wasn’t going to make it as an artist, so I switched majors.
