Tuesday morning workout:
Squat in the Smith: 136x8, 185x5, 205x5, 225x5, 175x10
Dumbbell ab pushup thingy: 3x40x12
incline ab pike leg raise something-a-ruther: 3 sets of 13
Just an average leg/ab day. I should of pushed up the weight some, didn’t have the motivation. Must have been all the talk of this winter storm we are supposed to have. I hate winter about like I hate cardio!
Note to self: You train to push your limits. Start pushing, you old fart!!
Average is no big deal, so long as you’re pushing up the average over time .
You were a math major in college weren’t you? That’s a great observation skid.
Yes, I was - as a matter of fact. Decided I wasn’t going to make it as an artist, so I switched majors.[/quote]
HAHA The math damn near kept me from getting my degree!
Squat in the smith: 135x8, 185x5, 205x5, 225x5, 245x5
Push up dumbbell ab things: 3x35x20
Incline leg raise ab do-dad: 15, 12, 8 reps.
I had to make it quick this morning. The 245 was easy on the smith. Not a real squat. I may go to a gym over in another town were some of the 100% Raw federation guys work out over the weekend. That way I can work on a ‘real’ squat.
Damn cold here today again. I hate it! Maybe we are getting winter out of the way so spring can come early! What do you want to bet I have jinxed an early spring arrival?
I was home alone Thursday (ballet night for the daughter) and I went to the gym. I think I need some more evening workouts. I have been slacking on working triceps lately. I had an enjoyable session. Somewhere between my 1:30 am regularly scheduled pit stop and 4:30 this morning I slept on my shoulder wrong. The morning complexes were trying to say the least. I hoped to push the volume a little bit. It just wasn’t in the cards.
Willy, your workouts are looking awesome. I agree with Hel, its good to go super heavy sometimes. If you haven’t tested your maxes recently, try that. Its always helped me to know exactly where my lifts are. I usually max every 12 weeks or so…
My doc tried to get me on cholesterol medication, but I refused. Chromium picolinate[sic] and CoQ10 do a good job for me. The numbers are coming down, tho not as fast as if I took the meds. I’m already taking enough perscription stuff…
I had a wild hair up my ass today. Decided to lower the weights and up the rep count using the most speed I could. I guess I was marginally successful. I did het a huge ass muscle pump! I’m thinking about going in Wed evening and doing a bunch of heavy triples and doubles. CGP’s were done with a rolled up towel. I really like how it concentrated the motion to the triceps. I guess I need to go out to the mill and make me some boards. By the time I finished the treadmill stuff I was used up. That is just the way I like it!

Thanks mj! How much of the chrominum and co-Q10 are you taking?
OHP: 95x8, 115x6, 125x6, 135x5
T-Bar Row: 145x6 170x6, 180x6, 180x5
pull over’s with the EZ curl bar: 50x6, 70x6, 80x6, 80x5
Lat pull downs: 3x130x10
Chest supported rows: 3x115x10
Treadmill interval: 20 minutes
135 with an OHP is some kind of PR. I didn’t do much of this work in college. Apparently between drink -n- drown, frat parties, and happy hour I fried the brain cells that contained that PR. I remember my C&J but I never remember doing many strict standing OHP’s.
I borrowed mathematician Skid’s Chest supported row idea. I built a bench and had at it. They sure beat the bent rows for targeting my back. I like them. I’ll push them harder. I made it a point to increase the speed and the angle of the dangle on the treadmill. My tongue was dangling afterward. The interval goes faster but I still hate cardio!
I saw my first river pelican this morning ‘fishing’ in the pound nets down from the house this morning. I used to think it was a sign of spring, but that is the return of the osprey. This can be good or bad for the fisherman. When the pelicans return the herring are running. The fisherman not only has to deal with all the crap from the wildlife and fisheries folks, he has to deal with the pelicans, eagles, ospreys, herons, and cormorants poaching his catch. I thought I had business concerns!
Typical ‘off lifting’ morning. Hard to get up, hard to go to the gym, and damn glad I went when I finished! It’s kind of funny how that works for me lately. I could have easily slept the other hour and come to the plant. But I know I would have felt like crap all day long for missing the training. The work spouse joined me for the complexes. She really pushed me along today.
What a dreary day we have in store for us. It is a dreary cloudy day with sprinkling rain. I tempted the winter gods. I went to the barber and had a haircut with a #2 blade. We call that a ‘summer cut’ here in the swamps. I was hoping to get the winter weather out and over. Looks like the winter is in full force here now. At least a full force winter for eastern NC!
One of the biggest dudes I’ve ever seen did squats only on the smith machine. Never saw him in a squat rack. His quads were huge. So keep piling the plates on that smith machine.
Squat in the Smith: 135x10, 185x5, 205x5, 225x5, 245x5, 185x8
Forgot about a Doc appt this morning. So I got my squatting in and hauled ass. All checked out with the Doc so back in the saddle tomorrow for complexes and cardio.
It was a solid hybrid cardio morning. Felt good and enjoyed all of the work, but I still don’t like the cardio! Go figure! I’m making real gains on fat loss. I’m down 2 waist sizes, from a 40 to a 36. The 36" waist pants are starting to fit loose too! That is going to piss the wife off when I have to buy a 3rd new wardrobe!
I had to see a colon and rectal surgeon yesterday. It’s no wonder I had forgotten the appointment. Thankfully all is good. I walked away with one observation. (actually more than one, but only one that I can write here.) It was the first time I have seen a Doctor that was hard to schedule an appointment, but I didn’t have to wait in his waiting room, I was seen early, and the visit ended really FAST! I think it has to do with putting things were the sun doesn’t shine!!

Awesome! The weight loss, not the examination, I mean. Though I’m glad to hear you got a clean bill of health.
I hate how they snap those gloves when they put them on. Makes me tense. My doc says he’ll call me “Sweetheart” for an extra 30 bucks…
