Machine Crunches: 3x90x45
Power Cleans: 3x135x5, 2x155x5
Shrugs: 3x185x10
Treadmill intervals: 18 minutes of agony
Ok at the risk of being “yelled” at for over training, I’m going to add some work in on Saturday morning and Sunday morning. My total workout time is about an hour. The operating hours of the gym, coupled with the operating hours of my plant, along with the operating hours of my family limit my training time. SSOOO I’m going to do some work every day. Plus on Saturday morning and Sunday morning I can drop weights on the floor and no one is around to get squirrelly with all the framing and banging of the weights. Feel free to call me a crazy sumbody and call me out on this decision!
Hells bells, what fun is lifting heavy ass shit it you can’t occasionally drop it and make a lot of noise??
I guess I’m the shopping chauffer later today. I have to carry the wife and daughter shopping, ballet leotards, school jeans for the fall and winter, a dress for the upcoming wedding gala of the wife’s dysfunctional sister next weekend, and for me…Rosetta Stone for Mandarin Chinese…Yep along with my weight training I’m going to attempt to learn a foreign language. Shit fire, that is going to be a challenge…I have yet to master the Queen’s English!!
Catchin’ up on things. Startin’ to get into the power cleans I see. Good stuff. What part of China you headed for? I spend time in Taiwan and Hong Kong. My wife’s one grandmother is chinese. If I may be so bold. Hong Kong pretty much speaks English and Cantonese. Taiwan speaks Mandarin and Taiwanese.
My knowledge of Hong Kong is pre communist so it may have changed some. Take some time and study up on the customs and superstitions. They take them real serious (so does my wife!) Good luck finding the fourth floor and hope your fate is good.

Thanks for the advice Hel. We are flying into Hong Kong and then off to Shenzhen. A large part of the Chinese furniture manufacturers are all over Guangdong Province. Our lumber is used to make furniture. Ironically most of the plants are Taiwanese owned. I was told by the China scholars at UNC most of the business is conducted in Mandarin.
I try to be very culturally sensitive when I am over there. The last thing I want to be is an ugly American. I guess I want to kind of have an idea what is being said in these meetings. I would have never imagined I would have to do customer service in Asia when I came back in the business!!
Dumb bell bench press: 65x10, 3x75x10
Bar bell floor press: 2x135x10, 205x6
Speed bench in the smith machine: 135x5, 4x205x5 15 sec rest
Barbell Row: 2x135x10, 135x8
Treadmill intervals: 19 minutes of hell, yet again
Left the gym used up, toast, stick a fork in me, I was done. Next week will be better, but just as tough! Oh damn…I forgot I have a damn wedding to go to…crap!! Floor press was tough, shimmied under the bar, getting it started with 205 was tough. But that is my sticking point. I’m hoping I’ll blast thru it soon.
I really carbed up yesterday. It started up with a cheeseburger at the greasy spoon for lunch. Then to Chef Angelo’s restaurant for dinner. Seafood with scratch made pasta, a great Roman style pizza, and wonderful wine and desert. It will be worth the effort to work it off this week.
Damn, gotta cut the grass today…ugh!! Y’all have a good Sunday.

Well I think a little bit soldog. I have gone from a size 40 pant to a 38. The 38’s are getting a tad loose. Plus my xxl shirts are getting extra big.
The interesting thing is my blood pressure is down 20 points. I’m hoping the chloesterol numbers will be down more as well.[/quote]
That all sounds like good progress to me! I know my BP and chloesterol responded nicely when I started up last year.
Dips: BWx10, BW+35x10, BW+35x8
CGP: 135x5, 5x185x5
Triceps pushdown: 3x75x10
Treadmill intervals: 15 minutes of not much fun
I have switched around my workout schedule to accommodate the new Sunday chest day. I really tried to blast out the triceps today. I guess its working. Hopefully this and the extra bench stuff will help propel me in the 300# bench press range.
As I sit here I can’t help but think about the last year. This time 12 months ago I went on the sales trip to Ho Chi Minh City (Saigon for people our generation), VN. As I stated in my opening post this was the starting point of a lifestyle change for me. What a ride it has become! I’m going to scour my logs from a year ago and see where I started from. I’ll get around to posting the comparisons soon.
Still here I am, just as bald, less fat, closer to dammit 50 , and almost as strong as I was at 23. I’m more disciplined and focused, and hopeful that in another 12 months I’ll be like the guy in the Bowflex commercial, when I can say, “I’m 49 years old and in the best shape of my life.”
Enough of the serious shit, I’ll think of something funny tomorrow…

Much better than “I’ve fallen and I can’t get up!”

You got that right Skid!!! I need to get you a sound effect of a drum roll the Vaudville comedians would get after a one liner. You are the king of one liners.
Squats: 5x135x5
Treadmill intervals: 15 minutes of no fun what so ever.
I was home alone early. The young’un had a sewing class so the old man slipped out for some gym time. I decided to squat a little bit, then torture myself on the treadmill.
What a way to end a Monday. Maybe I’ll sleep a little bit tonite.
Tuesday morning workout
Assisted Chins: BW-95x8
Standing dumbbell press: 45x10, 45x8, 45x7
Lat pull downs: 160x10, 2x160x8
Seated Row: 150x10, 150x7, 150x8
Treadmill intervals: kicked my ass, only 13 minutes
I guess I’m going to drop some weights back on this day. I could feel the Sunday workout and had none in the tank when I left the gym today. All and all an ok workout. I’m feeling my back and shoulders this morning. I raised the incline on the intervals, that did me in!
I guess I am truly getting old, I recognize that fact. It hit me square ass in the face yesterday. One of my younger skilled guys was bitching about a problem. My mill manager, saw filer and I looked the kid in the face and said in unison, “Hell, that aint shit. I can remember when we had to…”
I remember getting the same crap from the old guys when I fist started in this crap 20 years ago…Funny how we change, and then things never change.
Machine Ab crunches: 3x95x40
Treadmill Intervals: 19 minutes…ugh!
Typical “off” day, with abs and intervals. Nothing remarkable, other than I was in the gym all alone well before the crack of dawn. I like early mornings. My wife thinks I’m nuts!
During my self inflicted agony of intervals I had a strange thought. My mind drifted to my late worker, “Dammit Sherman”. I have written about Dammit Sherman before. He wasn’t the sharpest tool in the shed, but we had a place for him.
Dammit Sherman was a skinny guy. He looked like the skinny guy on the back of the WSSB program, literally. Mrs. Dammit Sherman was as big as a bear. Literally she is. She is about 320 and maybe 5’8. Once I walked in the break room at 1:30 am and it was pitch black dark. She was sitting there and scared the bejezuz out of me. She had come to sit with Dammit Sherman and they had turned the lights off so no one would sneak up on them! I never understood that logic.
One day the guys were picking with Dammit Sherman as we men in a factory do, trash talking wives, joking about sex or the lack there of. One of the guys asked Dammit Sherman, “Sherman are you still getting any from your wife?”
Dammit Sherman replied “Hell yes!”.
The guy asks “Who gets on top? You or your ole’ lady?”
Dammit Sherman laughs, “David you know that big woman isn’t getting on top, she will crush me…”
I do miss Dammit Sherman. It’s amazing what one thinks of during self inflicted sadistic torture…
Sheesh Willy! Funny, but even I don’t want to think about that kind of stuff! OK … it made me chuckle. Hey, at least Sherman was gettin’ some. Good for Sherman … and good for Mrs. Sherman! Who cares who was where? Whatever blows your hair back, right?
I’m thinkin’ maybe you need to set some cardio goals. Might put the kibosh on your mental wanderings. Worked for me, and I hate cardio twice as much as you!
Bench Press day is now Thursday. I guess y’all can tell that. This is my first week on the 255# 5x5. Judging from the results I have a few weeks at this weight.
In retrospect my Dammit Sherman story was a bit blue. I always try to think of humorous stuff during cardio. The humor and the music make it tolerable. Old Dammit Sherman gave us a bunch of laughs. I guess I should have told the story of him chasing his shadow all night or the one when he saw a ghost and called the sheriff. Then there is the one where he cut the lights off on the clean up guy, and the clean up guy chased Dammit Sherman around the mill yard with a big grain shovel.
I’m trying to get my mind right for the wife’s sister’s wedding this weekend. I know it will be an eye rolling affair. The sister is already mad at me because I’m wearing a tan suit instead of a dark one. Now this damn wedding is at 11 am because the event center is booked for a frat party that night…The frat party will be a helluva lot more fun, I may stay over if it’s a Lambda Chi party… She was going to be married last year, this very weekend in our back yard. Thankfully I had already planed my Vietnam trip and was going to miss the gala. Well its a year later, same sister, same weekend, different groom…and THANK GOODNESS not in my back yard!!!
