Assisted pull-ups 3x5
Standing DB Military Presses: 50x10, 50x8, 50x5
Pull downs: 2x160x10 160x7
Seated Rows: 3x150x10
Treadmill 20 minutes.
I did the MP’s standing today. WOW that is a lot of work compared to seated. I’ll keep that in for a while for sure! Walked out of the gym a tired old goat.
So riding to work I was asking myself life’s questions for the day.
Why do I enjoy morning fog in the spring and hate it in the fall?
Why didn’t I apply myself in college so I could be a banker or something?
And why do bankers want to figure the net present future individual rate of internal return on everything…oh wait… the answer to that question has been on the front of the Wall Street Journal every day for the last year…
How did I sire a spoiled drama queen diva with good manners?
Why is my wife befuddled that I lift weights?
How can I be the only lumberman in the South that doesn’t hunt OR fish?
What makes Community Coffee so good?
Why the hell do I write crap like this in my log and people actually read and comment??

J, you’re a funny SOB. Your flights of thought are enjoyable to read. You should add to the list: why do i enjoy reading other old guys workouts so much.

We ask ourselves these questions because we have a desire for life. This drive to learn new things, ask questions, and try crazy stuff is what keeps us going.
It is what makes us different than most other people who simply let life happen to them. I just know that when I stop asking these questions, life gets a little mundane and not nearly as much fun.
And by the way, I don’t have good answers for any of your questions. Sorry

First, good move. Never, ever, abbreviate ASSISTED Pullups. Trust me on this.
As for the what you write and what we read. Take a minute to think about this one. What do you know about other people who post here, outside the lifting arena. Probably at least one or two things that have nothing to do with lifting. Jobs, lifestyle. education, kids, pets, ailments, etc. At one time or another we’ve all gone off on things having nothing directly to do with lifting. How long would we keep coming if these threads really were just logs or a line item list of what we lifted? What makes these threads interesting are the “stuff” that just not lifting. So keep on posting and we’ll keep on reading.
PS Bambi never did anything to me either.

But the fish, man, the fish are something I really want to avoid.
On the other hand, I may yet end up going hunting for wild hogs with some of my friends from church.
But getting to the serious stuff, the posting and the thoughts make reading worthwhile, they give a sense of reality to everything.
Willy, just to stay on the topic of things that have nothing to do with lifting…
I was going through my CD collection last night and I listened to a song that I haven’t heard in forever. It made me think of you immediately. The song is Cotton Jenny by Gordon Lightfoot. A little old and folksy, but a fun tune, give it a listen.
Parallel Dips:10 x BW, 10 x bw+25, 8 x bw+35
CGP: 135x10, 155x10, 175x8
Overhead cable ext. 3x85x10
GMAW (Got my ass whupped) Treadmill Intervals: 15 mins
Decent workout today. For what ever reason I just didn’t push hard. Still I did some decent dip work. Did some damn intervals on the treadmill. THEY kicked my ass!!
I had my CEO group meeting yesterday. It’s a round table of about 20 business owners from different fields. My topic of discussion had to do with selling products directly to Asia as a completely different sales model. There will be certain ramifications and I was seeking input on these. One of the guys who was raised here in eastern NC put it best. “If you don’t take a chance, you don’t have a chance.” That said it all for me. I guess I’ll be spending more time in Asia in the future.
Squat: 3x145x10
Leg curl: 3x90x10
Leg ext: 3x70x10
Treadmill WMFAA intervals: 15 minutes
I hate squatting in a smith machine! What can I say more than that. WMFAA means Whupped My Fat Ass Again!
Went to the wife’s nephew’s football game last night. He is playing JV ball. Damn, what a big kid he has become. I guess I’ll not be picking on him again! He needs some real coaching. He is on the D-Line. his stance sucks, he stands straight up at the snap of the ball, and allows himself to be titty blocked by a smaller O-lineman. I guess I’ll have to volunteer some technique pointers and maybe introduce him to the world of “ugly strong”!

Asia? Big place, are you talking South East Asia.

Vietnam and China mostly, Streamline. The vast majority of the US domestic furniture manufacturing has moved there in the last 25 years. But we ship into the Thailand, Malaysia, the Middle East, and Europe as well.
Cheap abundant labor are these countries resources. The world has truly gotten very small!
Had a hair to try some maxes. After 25 years I still have the same problem with 295. I remember in 1981, it was weeks to hit the 295 mark. I guess I need to do some mobility on that part of the lift about 3 inches off the chest. Seems I have to do some research on working on sticking points.
Also I can see I have a weakness in the front delt area. Looks like some assistance work is in order.
Machine Ab crunches: 3x90x40
Power Snatch: 5x90x3, 3x105x3
Treadmill WMFAA Intervals: 30 mins.
Supposed to be a cardio day. Can’t help but throw some weights over my head. I guess I’m just funny that way.
The wife and youngun have gone to visit her sister for the weekend. I sent the rat dog to a ‘sitter’ and I’m going to a 'Man’s afternoon / evening" That consists of a little bit of clay pigeon shooting, steaks on the grill, and lots of cold beer. I hear some hard crabs, and shrimp are on the agenda as well. I sure wish it was crawfish season! Regardless I aim to be off the diet slightly.
Hope y’all have a nice weekend. And all our friends in Texas please stay safe and dry!

Sounds like a great time - not off the diet, you are just loading up on two essential food groups Protein and Beer…
Damn Intervals…I STILL HATE CARDIO!! But I have to begrudgingly admit I think the intervals are working…
Ate a lot of hard crabs, shrimp, and steak last night. Didn’t drink too many beers, and I missed a bunch of clay pigeons. It was a fun time for all. The wife and young’un should be home late this evening. The house is clean, I managed not to wreck it. If I go and plan supper for them, I’ll be a hero.
Well…I hit the 245 5x5, on to 255 next week. I let it all on the bench. That showed on the Inclines and the fly machine. I can feel a weakness in my delts, particularly my right delt. I guess I need to re-think my shoulder routine, maybe add some bent rows. It’s funny how when the weight increases you find your weak points pretty damn quick! I never really gave that much thought in the past…As my main man the late Sherman put it, “I didn’t think about it 'till I thought about it.”
I raised my speed and incline on the treadmill intervals. DAMN!!! That kicked my ass, sure nuff!!! I was used up in 13 minutes.
Back in the saddle…Typical Monday in the life of Willy…

Nice goin’ on the bench J! and yeah the incline kicks butt alone much less raising the speed at the same time.
