Beautiful photos. Hunker down and stay safe.
Friday morning workout
Squat: 3x135x10
Leg Ext: 3x60x10
Leg curls: 3x90x10
Treadmill: 20 minutes
I decided to get back to the legs. The ‘condition’ is much better and I need to work legs back in the program…HA if you want to call what I do a program…It’s more like pissing in the wind at times!
Still the workout was fun, I never have enjoyed leg work. Ages ago, when Mr. Roten took me under his wing during my fascination with oly lifting, I hated the leg work. That is probably why I never perused oly lifting with a real passion at that time. My how times have changed. I’d love to have an oly coach and work out at a facility where one could safely snatch and C&J.
I guess I looked at the Olympic stuff like I did playing craps. When you go to the casino, the only folks having fun are the craps players. They are loosing their ass, but they are having fun. The blackjack players and the poker players are all serious while they loose. The craps players are hooping and hollering, having a rancorous time.
That’s the way Mr. Roten and his crew were back in Boone. They were throwing weight around, clanging and banging, grunting and sweating. There wasn’t any looking in the mirror, flexing, and posing. It was a grunt and a KA-BLANG!! The body builders and the fitness folks hated us…
Damn I miss that!!

You guys make me happy I’m single. Life is so simple.
I can’t even begin to comprehend the weather problems you all deal with. We don’t get any extreme weather patterns here. That makes your shit extremely interesting to us.
Workouts are looking great. Your wife should be more greatful. The sacrafices you make for her every time you go to the gym. Stay strong![/quote]
Streamline, where you live is something to behold. I couldnt imagine living in the middle of a middle of a northern hemisphere ‘rain forest’. I really enjoyed my visits out there. I wish I had made it down to Victoria.
Willy, leg sessions really do seperate the men from the boys when it comes to lifting. I am always amazed at how many guys I see in the gym who never do any lower body stuff.
They are replacing a bunch of equipment at our gym. A number of squat racks are up for bid and I am guessing that the winning bidders will use them for bicep curls.
I hope you guys miss most of the bad weather over the next week…
I have a confession. I was once a ‘squat rack curl’ and ‘skip the legs’ guy until I found this site.
I feel better.

I’ve always started my work-outs with the legs, ever since early Nautilus days.
Especially when I had the serious shoulder problems, without legs I wouldn’t have had a work-out ![]()

Yes you are all better now.Be safe bro.
Slept in till 5:30. Thought about going to the gym. the storm isnt bad. But I have decided to wait till sun up. My wife and daughter would be pissed if the power went out and I wasnt here to start the generator.
Maybe today won’t be an off day.
Saturday mid morning workout
Machine Ab crunches: 3x90x40
Power snatches: 3x90x5, 3x100x5
Treadmill: 40 minutes
I waited until the wife and young’un were up and moving around then it was off to the gym. I know the weights aren’t very impressive but it felt great to do the power moves again!
I worked up a good sweat doing the power moves and the treadmill. Maybe tomorrow I’ll power clean some.
Hanna is a bunch of wind, not too much rain on this end of the state. The river is rough as cob, but that is what usually happens in these storms. There are lots of limbs in the yard to clean up tomorrow. BUT that is why mulching blades were invented for the lawn mower!
I would love to be able to go heavier with snatches and other Oly lifts, but my gym (a YMCA) isn’t conducive to dropping weights. I’d get kicked out. As it is, there’s only about 6 or 7 of us who deadlift on a regular basis and we kind of get the hairy eye from some of the staff (1 of the staff encourages it).

Me too. I’ve yanked elbow flexors trying to catch the weight from a clean rather than let it hit the floor. So I’m not going as heavy as I think I might due to all the signs that say they will kill my first born if I crash the weights.
I’m really been jonesing for a nice bumper set so I can try stupid olympic lifting tricks at home…
Now I’ve got to see how dedicated I am or how much I want to get into Oly lifting. Guy told about a gym in a nearby town set up for Olys. Bumper plates and platforms. According to mapquest 36 miles one way. Might have to pull a recon an check it out.

Yep, Same problem at my gym. They dont have a squat/power rack for free squatting and we only deadlift or pull in a corner of the gym. I don’t want to drop the heavy weights on the floor either. I have seen some of the ‘fitness folks’ not taking a wide bearth when some of the guys dead lift heavy. One actually bumped into a guy on a 400lb attempt.
But I guess that is the price of small town lifting
Sunday Morning Cardio
Machine crunches: 4x90x40
Treadmill: 40 minutes
I was a slacker. I had planned a few sets of power cleans. Sad to say, after light squats on Friday, and light power snatches Saturday; I was a sore puppy. HAHA I hate to admit that. I ‘gutted’ my treadmill work out and home to make breakfast for the family.
My ego was quashed… My daughter did not want my home cooked breakfast…She wanted McDonalds…Where did I go wrong?

Wish I knew. I’ve just started to pretend McDonalds doesn’t exist with my kid. ![]()

This may help with the bruised ego. It was the toy she was after.
Monday morning workout
Bench Press: 135WU, 225WU, 245x5, 2x255x5, 255x3, 255x2, 205x7
Incline press: 135x10, 155x10, 185x2
Machine Flies: 160x10, 170x10, 170x8
Treadmill: 15 minutes
I guess its a good workout. I was pleased with the bench. Hopefully in a few weeks I can get all my reps at 255 like I would like. The bench effort showed in the inclines, I tried to push the weight up on the last set and couldn’t get the reps. I guess that is why we do it, to push our limits.
Maybe I should have played tennis or golf. Hell I don’t know. But I’m having as much fun at 47 as I did at 22. As I sit here and think about it, probably more!

Good for you willy!!
Your bench numbers are really improving quickly.
Glad to hear that the storm wasn’t too bad. It looks like Ike is going to stay down in the Gulf also.
I just like the way that looks so much, 225 warm up! Your benchin is going great. I see the 5x5 at 255 real soon. Keep on enjoying yourself. Its easy to enjoy life at 22. Enjoying yourself at 47 and beyond is what its all about.

Which is what the iron is for.
