About socks, a big thing I learned from the Esquire book that I was doing wrong is match socks to your pants, not to your shoes. It makes your legs appear longer.

Match your socks to your personality or mood, even better.

On the subject of shoes, step your sock game up too. Through in some color, and dont wear old man socks even if you are old.
Sorry bro. I only wear black, dark brown, and crew socks bro.

Waittz,
What sort of belt would you wear with the following shoes?

Thanks for all your help, dude.
Not blue, white or red. You can go black or dark brown with the first pair of suede bucks and flirt between dressy/rugged in the middle style wise. Just not too far on either extreme. I would go to Cole Haan or a similar store and find a matching suede material but don’t match the color to the exact shade, that looks too planned.
For the wing tips just go black. Don’t over complicate belts. Just make sure you don’t skimp in price. With belts and shoes you get what you pay for with quality and material. These are two elements you never want to be cheap in. They take the most frequent and violent beatings from wear and shitty cow looks like shitty cow after a few wears.

Thanks!
Do my clothes fit properly: check
Is my fly up: check
…good to go then
I think I’ve done everything in this thread wrong so far. Literally EVERYTHING.

$450 on a pair of wingtips might be scary at first but i have two solid paids from Allen Edmonds(my favorite brand and maybe the best American Shoe maker in my opinion) going on 3+ years and still look money.

Can’t at all agree with you that it’s necessary to spend that much. I have 3 pairs of cap toe shoes, 2 Johnston Murphy’s and a Florsheim. I spent $300 total for them and I’ve had them all for about 5 years. My brown JMs needed 1 resole, my black JMs now need their first resole and my burgundy florsheims are still good (they get the least wear). I wear a pair of these to work every day.

You have burgundy shoes?
Do you, by any chance, own a cane?
It would explain why you wear them at work…

Given the right outfit, these shoes go pretty well!

I will admitt that I had something more pimptastic in mind.
They look pretty good, actually.

It was a tough choice between the original shoes I posted and the pimptastic version here.
I think as long as the shoe is able to be resoled you should be fine. The things should be polished anyways and that should cover up most issues with leather quality.

Yeah, burgundy (or cordovan or oxblood) monk straps are my usual go to with my navy suit. And agreed with the Johnston and Murphy’s. I have a pair of black and a pair of tan cap toes that have held up very well to some fairly consistent beatings.
I found this gray sportcoat I really liked yesterday at express for 40% off. Not sure how they should fit, though. I have to put it on a certain way as to not tear it, but once its on its good I think. What measurements are most important when fitting a sportcoat? I’m real tempted to go back and buy it today but I want to make sure its the right fit.
Okay I wear these boots every day to work with blue jeans and button up long sleeve shirts.
What kind of light sport jacket would be good to wear with this?

Chest/Shoulders. Almost everything else can be tailored, but remember you can always cut away material, but never add to it.
EDIT- the Express photographer suit(think thats the name, its the tailored slimmer one) maye be the best value ‘buy off the rack’ suit you can get. I have one that is still right off the rack and never been to a tailor. Extremely impressed and recommend it to all. Just dont buy a black suit please unless you are running or congress or going to a funeral

Ha are they still in somewhat decent shape or like mine with gashes and scuffs all over them?
