What kind of light sport jacket would be good to wear with this?
Navy or Sharkskin grey. Really cant go wrong with either, and keep the shirt fresh and white.

Ha are they still in somewhat decent shape or like mine with gashes and scuffs all over them?
On my second pair. First one lasted 12 years. Two months ago went and bought the same style.

Any brand in particular?

This is Houston 9 months out of the year its humid and hot.

I don’t want to let this thread die, lot of great advice in here especially from Waittz. Couple questions, what kind of watches should I look, and is it ever appropriate to wear short sleeve button dress shirts? Trying to dress better this year, and I appreciate all the good tips in here.

I agree with you, this is probably my favorite thread and always click on it when it gets bumped. I also get to weigh my personal style against someones who is very in check.

My opinion is that you should have at least 2 watches, one black leather band and one brown leather band. After that you can go for an all metal and sportier watches with vinyl bands and whatnot. I personally find the oversized faces on recent watches gaudy and think you’ll get a lot more longevity out of a nice brand with a slim profile (I have a Tissot that I really like).

I wouldn’t wear short sleeve dress shirts at work (tucked in) unless you’re a pilot or in the military. Untucked I actually like them, but I think they lend themselves more to warmer climates.

For watches it depends on two things: your budget and your style or general dressing habits(how casual/formal you dress) as they are really predicated on how you are dressed and a personal statement.

For the short sleeves, think I mentioned this before. Don’t do it unless we are talking about one with a modern or ruggest feel/fit and high temperatures(like Florida summers…). Eitehr way avoid when you can, hard to pull off.

Also two quick budget shopper alerts that are waittz approved.

I already expressed my love for the photographer suit from Express as maybe the best bargain buy you can get from an off the rack suit. Right now they have their last season styles on clearance, just grabbed this Jacket for 50$ when it was all said and done. Will be great for the rest of winter and throw a pastel shirt under it and boom it is spring time ready. Also remember a grey/blue suit/jacket is always in season, and a good suit should last a few years so dont be afraid to buy something now if you can save big. This jacket retailed for 300$ a few weeks ago(still a deal) and at 50-70$ i felt like i robbed the place.

Dockers Alpha Khakis. A slim fit chino that wears and breaks in like denim. Tons of colors, can be found for around 40-50$ a pop at Macy’s. Break them in like a good pair of jeans and wear them instead of denim when you normally would and you will be happy. These are a game changer for those who are taking baby steps into grown men fashion. Please no comments on how they dont fit your massive, muscular thighs from the peanut gallery.

If you guys like this kind of content let me know, ill chime in when these things pop up.

Nice Waittz - thanks! I may look for that same jacket later this week. Any idea how true to size they run? I am typically a 46L. Always end up having the sleeves let out and the waist taken in.

You talking D1’s or D2’s? Love the D2’s but the others are a little slim for my personal taste. And aren’t the Saturday Khakis from Dockers the looser cut version of the Alpha? Also Belks and Dilliards had similar sales on the Alphas recently.

Guys - definitely check out ebay. I nabbed a NWT (new with tags) pair of Bill’s Khakis for $29 with shipping a couple of weeks ago and a sweet Brooks Bros. sport coat yesterday for $89 with freight. About a month ago I scored two pair of Allen Edmonds shoes for less than $120 total. Some diligent shopping will set you up with a quality, timeless wardrobe for cheap.

Waittz approved fashion deals updates would be fuckin’ sweet!

I was actually going to ask you, Waittz, if you knew of any brands that make short sizes past a 40 chest. A couple of months ago, I picked up a 42S J ferarr 3 pc suit from JcPenny for ~200 bucks and it’s the best fitting suit I’ve ever worn. About a month ago, I got an email for 40% off suits at express and went there looking for a 42S and the saleswoman said that express only does “short” sizes up to 40 and didn’t know of any other brands who went past a 40S either. So I left without a suit, hah. Obviously if J ferarr makes a 42S, there have got to be some other brands who make them, I was wondering if you could point me in a direction or two? Thanks.

I was also going to ask if you knew of any other go-to places you regularly browse for deals? I’ve got the JackThread app on my phone and it’s pretty sweet. Picked up those two shoes I linked back on here from there and they’re sweet. I was wondering if you knew of any other similar sites.

Thanks a ton, man! This thread’s awesome.

I’m not big on online flash sale apps. Hautelook, Gilt and jack threads included. In most cases it isnt really a deal and their sizes/livability are bad.

Check out Zara, also how short are you? I’m 5’7 and wear a regular jacket. It isnt often you find 42+ or so in short mainly because there are not that many 225 lb 5’5 people out there. Never heard of that brand from JC Penny, but I do know that they hired a big wig who used to be in the high end portion of the fashion biz to take over their home grown line with the plans to make fit the focus on affordable suits.

Ive said it multiple times, but back in the day the biggest difference in a Hugo Boss/Armani etc from the cheaper brands was the cut and stitching, not material. Wool is wool and cotton is cotton. We are living in a good time when it comes to badass affordable suiting.

Cool, thanks for the heads up. I’m not big into them, either. But I did take a chance on two pairs of shoes on there and it worked out, so I’m not necessarily opposed to taking a chance every once in a while. Plus it’s always nice to see new ideas.

Gotcha. I’ll search around. I’m 5’6 ~190. That 42S fits perfectly, so do the pants. I’d have bought the same suit in a different color, but they were low on their selection. Oh well.

Thanks again, man!

I think you’ll have some luck at Men’s Wearhouse. The suits are normally about $500 but they usually run a buy 1 get 1 free. 2 great fitting suits for $500 is a great deal, IMO.

They have designer stuff like Michael Kors (slim fits are best fitting for me), Ralph Lauren, Calvin Klein, etc, in addition to the house brands (but the designer stuff does seem to hold up better).

Shhhhhhhhhhh! I’ve been doing this for a while. I never talk about it because I don’t want competition.

With tailoring for free when you buy. Every suit I own has come from Men’s Warehouse and I have always been totally pleased and paid $250-300 for each one by the time I got the buy one get one deal.

Edit- Calvin Klein and Micheal Kors seem to be the two that fit me the best although I have a Jones NY that fits really well also.
