Strong work. I hope the -2 is C not F!

Nice squatting bro. That was mighty deep. You’re a brave fella to be lifting in -2.

Good squats. But I wouldn’t expect anything less.

I don’t think lifting in that temp would fly with me.

deep ass squats nice work-
good volume and good numbers

Thanks everyone for the kind comments.

Hill Sprints 35 yds x 12 (postponed from yesterday due to the weather)

Cold again tonight, minus 4. Had to go easy because of the snow. It was exactly the wrong amount, if it was a bit deeper I could have put boots on and waded up, but 2" was just enough to make it treacherous under foot, especially walking back down. Didn’t fall, it just meant I couldn’t “push off” hard with my feet.

Could have stayed in front of the fire, but wanted to do something.

Thats good work because at that temp I would have been IN the fire.

Deadlift @ 401 lbs 5-5-5-5-5

Inc DB Bench Press 102 lb’ers 10/5.5 (supersetted with)

Pull Ups @ bw 5 then Chin Ups @ bw 6 *

  • Left elbow’s been sore of late so tried pull ups instead but found they bothered it more, so went back to chins. Back on the anti-inflammatories I guess.

Had to train at below 1 degree celsius tonight. Went down to minus 17 last night. Apparently it’s been colder here than Omsk in Siberia this week!!

I know, I know, he’s posting another boring deadlift video that looks exactly the same as the one he posted last week and the one the week before that!

But this video is very special because it breaks the 400lb barrier. So sit back, relax and marvel at me deadlifting what most people on here bench press for reps!!

What do you have to heat the workout area? Besides your body heat, that is…

400+ for 5x5! Awesome!

My elbow always bothers me. I wish that I could just deaden it.

Thanks LS. I do have a 2kw plug in heater that I keep meaning to put over there on a timer, so it comes on for an hour or so beforehand, but I haven’t got around to doing it yet. So just body heat at the moment.

Have you tried diclofenac for your elbow. It works great for me when I’m taking it, but unfortunately as soon as I come off it the problem comes back.

I don’t know how you keep your joints from seizing in the cold. My hats off to you (but only when I am inside).

I have never heard of that. I will google it.

Nice lifting. When I first saw the title I thought “Wait, I was sure he was stronger than a 400lb x 1 DL” until I realized it was 25 of them, not just 1.

I’m still shooting for 1.

Of course it’s special! Great form. Is this the first time you’ve done 400 lb. for reps?

400 for 25 reps is awesome! Great work.

Of course, a guy who champions raw lifting needs to ditch the straps.

Nicely done. You’re very gentle with your weights…or are you being kind to the floor?

Ag - Thanks, you’re making great progress, you’ll get there soon enough.

KP - I did a 1 rep max last year of 440 that’s the only deadlift I’ve ever done over 400lbs. So 25 reps over 400 in one session is a huge deal for me.

Jack - Thanks for pointing that out, I am such a hypocritical gear whore. Seriously, I normally do the first few sets “strapless” but my grip does start to fail after that. I’m probably switching to 3x3 next week, so I’ll be ditching the straps from then.

DCA - It was so cold tonight I was worried if I dropped the weights too heavily they might shatter!

I must admit that the same thought crossed my mind. The line on raw vs. geared is very murky. Wraps, straps, sleeves, belt. Blah, blah, blah.

Not to take away from your excellent accomplishment.

You are right it’s a very murky subject. I suppose the way I decide is by asking myself the question “can I still do it if I take away that particular bit of equipment?”

So as for the straps on deadlifts if I’m honest? Yes for 2 sets, definitely not for 5.

As for knee sleeves and my squats? Definitely makes no difference and I sometimes take my sleeves off just to prove it to myself.

Brett, I’m a purist much like you. The way I see it, the only truly raw lifting is exactly that–you naked and the bar. Brings to mind a certain Belgian sprinter as the only known example. Above and beyond this, I use four items that aid my lifting: clothes, shoes especially made for weightlifting, tape on my thumbs, and chalk. I am not opposed to any aid allowed in competition, but a belt and knee sleeves annoy me more than help.

Carl, In the same way I think a great singer should be able to replicate their singing voice live, without all the recording studio wizardry, I expect a great strongman to be able to demonstrate his strength at any time, any place, without having to be levered into special shirts and suits by several helpers.

If I claimed to my non lifting friends that I could lift a certain amount, and when asked to show them told them I couldn’t do it without my special outfit, I can just imagine the looks I would get from them and rightfully so.

That’s why my laptop is full of clips of eastern bloc lifting halls, full of olympic lifters snatching near record weights in nothing but tracksuit bottoms and old wooly jumpers!!! Not a belt, or knee wrap to be seen anywhere.

Those guys are incredible.
