George - Come on, what bike did you get?. Even though I have two bikes and am not in the market for a new one, I always love looking at bike ‘porn’, I spend ages deciding what bike I’d get if I had a hypothetical £2000 to spend for example.

nothing special. a clearance bike, Specialized frame, carbon forks, low end Shimano brakes, shifters and gears.
Bulldog - Damn! That excellent, educational thread has disappeared, now I won’t be able to get myself a sandbag. Guess I’ll have to stick with my barbell now. Shit!
German, MJ - Thanks
George - Nice!. Mine is pretty similar, basic entry level bike (Giant SCR3), aluminium frame, carbon forks and same low end components, but it does me fine. My friend has a £2000 bike and he spends a fortune buying bits for it to shave off a few grammes in weight. I think It’d be much cheaper and easier for the rider to lose a few pounds instead of making the bike lighter. If I want to get faster on my bike I just work on getting fitter, not buy a better bike.

Bike Ride - up mountain and back - 6.5 miles in 34 minutes.
Another windy, shitty weather day. Started hailing about 5 minutes after I left (it’s June for god’s sake!!). It was painful, I shaved my head last night, so not much padding. It felt like someone was chucking frozen peas at me.
Worse still, I got passed by someone else. I’m no slouch, but he made up 100m on me, passed me and then pulled another 100m ahead over a couple of miles. Bastard!!! I hate being beaten. I wanted to shout “yeah, but how much can you squat you smug f**k!”. Fair play though, he was bloody fit.
My best time on my racer is 31 minutes. I think I’ve got that beat fitness wise, just haven’t had the right conditions yet.

Deadlift @ 308 lbs x 10-10-10-10-10
Leg Curls @ 78 lbs x 10-10-10-10-10
Pushdowns @ 95 lbs x 10-10-10 (supersetted with) EZ Curls @ 88 lbs x 8-8-8
Deads were harder tonight. Must try to cycle on upper body day. Because my legs were tired I used more back. Not what I want. Going to start resetting between reps as from next week.
On top of squatting light weight, I bet that smug f**ker squats like an ostrich laying an egg.

I was not riding a bicycle in Wales yesterday.

Are you sure?
He was wearing a rather fetching singlet!
Punnyguy - I’ve since figured out why he was faster than me. He had shaved legs. DAMN these wind resisting hairy calves of mine!

CG U/H Pulldowns @ 157 lbs x 5-5-5-5-5
Incline Barbell Bench Press @ 176 lbs x 10-10-10-10-10
Seated Row @ 132 lbs x 10-10-10-10-10
Standing DB Press @ 65.7 lb’ers x 5-5-4!!!
Face Pulls @ 44 lbs x 10-10-10-10-10 (supersetted with) Push Ups @ bw x 20-20-20-20-20
The last rep on bench was a bit of a grinder. Might be time to drop to 9 reps on those. The DB presses were only 1kg heavier than last week, but it might as well have been 20kg, probably because the inclines were so taxing. So quit on those.
Forgot to do my shoulder warm up circuit, oops! Made up for it with a load of face pulls and push ups. Switched face pulls to the chin with a short straight bar to pulls to behind the ears with a rope. Well I couldn’t be bothered to go and get a bit of rope so I used a piece of chain, not the most comfortable thing to grip, but they felt good. Going to start raising my feet slightly on the push ups too.
Accepted an offer on our house today, WHOOOPEEE!!! The European Tour and move abroad could finally become a reality!
I’m not getting too carried away just yet, these things have a habit of falling through.
hoping the sale goes through for you
Congrats on the offer! So will a basement or big garage for your gym be on the new house list?

OMG!
What a Beauty!!!
Fetching. Such a great word.
So once you get bored of 10s . . . are you looking at 9s?
Looking seriously strong here.
George - Thanks I hope so to. The only problem may come when they have the building survey carried out. Not that here’s anything wrong with the house, but because it’s old (160+ years) and the surveyors tend to compare them to new houses, they can be quite critical and negative. I’m sure they won’t find anything major that will put the buyers off though.
dday - Thanks. It will definitely have to have a gym. If there’s not a suitable building already there I will build one, I built my current gym myself. I like the idea of being able to lift outside too, so I’m thinking of three solid walls and some big, folding doors I can open to let the outside in or a covered area outside with a lifting platform so I can lift with a view. I dunno, but it will be good.
KP - Yeah after 10s drop to 9s and work my way down over the next few weeks and months to some triples and hopefully when I’m there I’ll be stronger than if I’d kept banging away at the 3s week after week. This sort of thing has worked well for me in the past.
I’m a great lover of words. My current favourites are moribund and pleonasm. I am often frequently guilty of pleonasm myself!
I’m meant to be ordering cardboard boxes online right now, not doing this.
What an exciting life I lead eh?
Damn bro, “I WILL BUILD MY OWN GYM” now thats what I call dedication! Good luck on the purchase!

Ahh, to build your own gym, with fresh air and a platform. If only I didn’t rent apartments. . .
Here in the states the PBS station has a kid’s show called “Word Girl”. She’s a superhero who fights crime and teaches word use. She’d love you.
yeah, congrats on the sale!!
(or fingers crossed - but ordering boxes seemed like a good sign)
Matty - Thanks. Hopefully it will go through smoothly. I’ll only be building the gym out of wood, just a large shed really, nothing too difficult.
Cav - Even when I rented a flat when I was younger, half of it was a gym. In fact it looked like a gym with a double bed in it!!
Alexus - Thanks. I got the boxes so we can start packing the non essentials, books, winter clothes etc now to save time come moving time. Not going to pack anything we use often just in case it falls through and we’re here for a while.

Back Squats @ 297 lbs x 10-10-10-10-10
Leg Curls @ 80 lbs x 9-9-9-9-9
This was hard, don’t know if I’ll even bother going for more next week. This was close to maximum. I’ll be honest, I laid on the floor for ten minutes after the squats before I could even think about doing the leg curls.
Squats 5 sets of 10 at 297
I’m not quite sure if the diet’s working or not. I think I’m definitely look leaner in the mirror first thing in the morning, but the scales 'aint budging. Could I be experiencing the ‘mythical’ phenomenom of losing fat while gaining muscle?, I don’t know, but my arms, chest and shoulders are definitely getting bigger, mainly because I’ve neglected them for so long. I think I’ll have to measure my waist and use that to decide.
It just dawned on me, if I might be moving in 8 weeks that means I only have 8 weeks of lifting before I have to pack up my gym and have an indefinite break from lifting until we find a new place, could be 6 months to a year!! My current routine has quite a slow progression and I really want to finish on a high with some PRs, so might start a 6 week cycle, suggestions would be welcome.
pics? did you take some ‘before’ pics so you can compare?
sounds like you will have to do what quite a few of us do and visit the dreaded ‘fitness center’ lolz.
RSR is 6 weeks long ![]()
