Good looking snatches. Now as the weight gets heavier, you will be able to drop and catch even lower. That commitment to going under a bar too low for power snatches is a big step.
Awesome snatches, what a breakthrough, you have to be way geeked. Thats really not a little weight to have a breakthrough with.
Wow Brett that was awesome. Man you are really making great progress.

Now that’s gonna take bravery I’m not sure I’ve got.
Dude and Germanone - Thanks

Snatch practice.
Found a glove with fingers to wear over my torn blister and it worked fine, although I looked like some Michael Jackson tribute act. However, something in my groin/adductor area didn’t feel right and started cramping up during my workout. I don’t think it’s a pull, I might have been a bit over zealous “opening up my hips” during the warm up, I don’t know. Kept losing everything forward tonight before my groin halted proceedings.
I think what with this, the blister and the general lack of “oomph” I’ve been feeling lately, I might take a break until Monday at least.
So after feeling ecstatic on Monday, I’m now feeling really flat and despondent.
Majorly pissed off!!
You might want to dial back on the number of snatches you do. 5-8 quality reps done with attention seems to be enough. Being a concentric-only lift you don’t notice that you’re overdoing until that “oomph” you mentioned is gone.
I think your form is pretty good(FWIW), so you could probably start inching the weight up on them.

Now why couldn’t you have posted this sage advice a few days ago?. Obviously now I see that 25+ snatches Monday, a bike ride and more snatches yesterday and snatching tonight is way too much, but you’re right, you don’t find out until afterwards. I guess I got carried away because I’m desperate to crack this lift.
On a positive note, I’ve just got back from the cinema where my other adductor cramped up “big style” for the last hour, which means my right one is probably not injured, just in need of a good rest.
5-8 snatches per session for me from now on.
you doing alright? busy building?

I’m doing great thanks Alexus, I was just feeling a little burned out and what with the blister, cramping adductors and tight traps all coming at once, I thought I’d take a few days off. Like you, I rarely take time off and hardly ever more than two days in a row. This 4 days has felt like a REEEAAAAALLLLY long ‘layoff’ to me and TBH I had to stop myself from lifting Saturday night!
As far as the platform is concerned, I’ve managed to clear an 8x8 area and my mate brought a mat for me to try. It’s 3/4 inch thick rubber and 100 cm x 150 cm (off a conveyor belt at a colliery apparently). So I’m going to have one mat either end and stand on the concrete in the middle. He’s going to bring me the second one tomorrow. Hopefully they’ll work fine and I won’t need a platform. That’ll mean the next money I get can go on shoes.
So blister’s healed, groin is fine and I’m ‘champing at the bit’ right now and can’t wait to get back to it tomorrow.
glad to hear you are doing good
i’m sure i’d profit more from taking a proper break at times… read somewhere that it is better to be a little bit undertrained than a little bit overtrained. will be interesting to see how things go when you get back to it.
the rubber sounds good. um… only thing is that if you have the rubber under the plates and stand on the concrete then the bar will be 3/4 inch higher than it is supposed to be. i guess it isn’t much so it probably doesn’t matter so much, but if there is a easy way to get yourself 3/4 inch raised up as well then that would rectify things. (we have mats that we are supposed to use to drop the bar off the platform but they are a good 2 1/2 inches high so we just ignore that).
i hope you have a great session tomorrow.
Brett, rest is important and you did some serious work that you had never done before. Take a step back and enjoy, your on unbroken ground.
Actually I noticed today that our setup is concrete thickly veneered with wood with two strips of rubber matting about 3/4 of an inch thick. Sometimes I lift on that and sometimes I lift from the rubber coated floor and I’ve never even noticed that difference in height.
brett and alexus, regarding shoe goo. this was developed for marathoners, you would squirt it out in a waffle pattern on the soles of the shoes to make the soles last longer. you wear down the shoe goo insted of the shoe. if its available, it might be under a different name.
Alexus - I’m hoping that the 3/4 of an inch wont be noticeable. If it becomes a problem I can always put a bit of 3/4 ply between the mats.

Squat snatch @ 132 lbs x 11 singles
Back squat w/u to daily max
220 x 3
308 x 2
396 x 1
418 x 1 then 90% of that
374 x 2-2
Leg curls @ 80 lbs x 10-9-8
CG U/H Pulldowns @ 176 lbs x 10-7
Pushdowns @ 120 lbs x 10-10
Tried to keep the volume fairly low. Stopped at 11 singles even though I wanted to do a lot more. One bit of progress was that the first time I managed to drop under a snatch it took about fifteen attempts before I could do it, tonight it only took 4 or 5. Looking forward to when I can do it first time of trying.
Balance and flexibility at bottom of catch is definitely improving. Heels still coming up a bit though.
Hadn’t squatted with my rack in it’s new place. I didn’t like it, the floor was lumpy or it sloped or something, it just didn’t feel right. I’m going to move it back to where it was tomorrow.
Vid of some snatches followed by squat at 418 and 2 sets of 2 at 374.
Nice work, Brett. Squats are still looking good and the O-lifts are looking better and more natural.
looks like you are keeping your hips down pretty good. damn. how did you get so good at this so quickly???
Thats a snatch. Great job Farmer
Great job farmer. Lifts are looking good. I have been playing with the power snatch (ya gave me the bug) but i am way too stiff and probably going to stay with doing the pulls.
Your diligence is really paying off.
Awesome Brett, Looking very fluid and smooth on the O lifts, and love the Beastie Boys in the background!
have you tried cleans and jerks yet?
a rule of thumb I read was that the Snatch should be about 80 to 85% of your clean. So maybe a relatively easy 75kg? You could do that in your sleep. (No pressing allowed mind)
Damn that looked smooth…
