strausberg sock? yes… i’ve been thinking about those… not paying 70 bucks for one, though, especially since i’d need 2. am thinking about trying to rig up some kind of home contraption…[/quote]

start with cheap-ass knee socks. from a running store or walmart, by a tube of “shoe goo”. This is what we used to assemble our ghillie suits when I was in the Marines. it will stick anything to anything. take and old pc of ace bandage, and shoe go one end to the entire sole of you the sock. so the end of the ace is at the the heel. shoe goo it along the entire sole. Once its dry (takes about a day) put the sock on, and pull the non goo’ed end up to the top of the sock (this pulls up the front of your foot) get the ace good and streched, and cut it flush with the top of the sock. now shoe goo about 6" of ace to the top 6" of sock. let dry for one day. you will want to do a pair of socks at the same time, not one at a time, that would take 4 days.

you’re welcome

shoe goo ftw

Brett, your Oly lifting looks like you’ve been doing it forever.

brett, go to home depot or something and buy the cheapest bundle of shims they offer. should be less than a pound. if you wear a size 12 shoe (11.5 uk or about 46 in european metres or whatever) the standard 6-7" shim will be the right size. 3 shims one on top of the other will give you about an inch lift.

it works best if you run some duct tape around them lenthwise to keep them from shifting. this will probably shift from side to side in your shoe, so you will likely need to go 1.5 shims wide. just alternate like this bottom half left full right, 2d layer half right full left, 3d layer half left full right. again, one course of duct tape so it doesn’t shift.

take the insole out of your shoe, and put the shim contraption in the shoe, with the tall part jammed agains the heel of the shoe, then put the insole in on top of the shims.

This works best if you are using a shoe that covers the ankle. doing this made a big difference for me.

good luck

even better than duct tape!

I hear the alternative sucks.

Carl - I did have an idea what it was, but how you can concentrate on three joints at a time I don’t know.

Joe - Thanks for that. My aim is to deceive.

MJ - You’re making this up “shoe goo”?

Kent - Are you in touch with the other side?

Power snatch

132 lbs x 2-2-2-2
154 lbs x 1-1
165 lbs x 1-1

Back squat @ 407 x 1-1-1 (supersetted with) GHR @ bw x 5-5-5

CG U/H Pulldowns @ 176 lbs x 9-7-6 (supersetted with) Pushdowns @ 115 lbs x 10-10-10

Overhead squats @ 88 lbs x 6-6-6

Had to rush things tonight so supersetted everything. Put a 1" plank under my heels on the overhead squats. It made a big difference, I went deeper easier and was much more stable. Shoes seem the answer, I’ll just have to save up for a bit. Also just realised that I’ve never snatched more than 150 before so the 165 is a big PR.

3 singles at 407 lbs followed by a snatch at 165 slowed down to see if I’m still hitting the right spots as it gets heavier.

Damn fine work, Brett. Squats looked strong. When you unrack the bar, it looks like nothing. No effort at all. I had remind myself how much weight was on your back.

Yeah, you get the stud award for the day for those squats. I always feel a little angst watching your squats since I’ve become a wide-stancer who just dips past parallel.

nice work on the squats and snatchs

looks to me like you are hip driving it good.

shoe goo eh? i’ll have a look (lets see if we have that in Aussie - sure there will be a substitute if not)… thanks heaps for that.

Simply outstanding work. Everyone says, “it’s all for my personal satisfaction”, however…you need to eventually find some kinda meet and kick some ass, all for your personal satisfaction, of course.

Squat snatch @ 132 lbs x 25+ singles.

MASSIVE, MASSIVE, MASSIVE breakthrough tonight! I managed to drop under a snatch for the very first time. WOO HOO!!! This has been a huge mental block for me and I’m ecstatic about it. My whole scheduled workout went out the window after I hit the first one and I just snatched all night. Lost count after about twenty odd singles. I lost the first half a dozen forward in the squat position, then managed to get the balance right and squat back up.

I’m going to just do these every day of this week until they are completely ‘in-grained’, in fact I’m worried that if I wait until Wednesday to do them again I might have to start from square one again.

My plan is to keep doing these until they are second nature, then gradually start increasing the weight, but I’m not going to run before I can walk.

Here’s a vid of my last two. WARNING… Don’t expect too much, they aint pretty, but they are definitely fluid movements, not the catch in a quarter squat, pause, then descend I have been doing.

Moved my gym around Sunday night to make room for a platform. I’ve just enough room for an 8x8. I was going to order the wood today, but then spoke to a friend of mine who’s a greenskeeper at a golf course and he might be able to get me some old driving range mats, apparently they are 3/4 inch padded rubber, 4 foot square. Hopefully they might be OK to drop onto. Should find out tomorrow.

Nice!!!

Nice going, FB! Your progress is tremendous. Looking forward to the parabolic improvement part of your learning curve.

Not that I know anything about OL, but I really think once you get the OL shoes, you are going to be so much more stable at the bottom.

Plus, I like the panache with which you are now dropping the weights as well.

Nicely done!

Nice!

My platform is 8x8 too. It seems to be plenty of room for me.

WooHoo! Drop that sucker!
Looks like it is getting easier for you to get down.

great work! i don’t think you will regret your decision about the platform even if it is a bit of a pain in the arse to set up.

Thanks for all the “Nice”'s people and yes I’m finally getting the hang of dropping it.

Bike ride - Top and back - 6.5 miles in 38 minutes.

It was blustery today with nasty little crosswinds that wobbled and yanked my front wheel on the descent. Kept it interesting.

P.M

Snatch practice.

Didn’t last very long. On my fourth attempt I managed to rip the blister I got last night, off my right index finger. Tried filling it with chalk but it was still too uncomfortable to carry on. Probably a good thing as I was a bit tired and didn’t really have any ‘zip’ in my legs.
