Farmers Log

Love the photo of the new plates with the old rusty db’s in the background. A true home gym.

People have you forgotten the tenth commandment of lifting?

“Thou shall not covet thy neighbours bumpers!” Shame on you all.

Ogre - My bench is from my wife’s York 2001 Multi-Gym circa 1988. It is quite high, but worse it’s very narrow and I tend to rock from sise to side on it. I’m not even going to find out what the max weight it can take is. I don’t want to know.

Well it took a couple of days, but it happened. Went shopping in the local town on Saturday with a couple of friends. Transcript follows.

Enter boutiquey/housey stuff shop.

Sandra : Ooh I like that chandelier.
Brett : Yeah it’s nice.
Sandra : I really like it.
Brett : Where would you put it?
Sandra : I don’t know.
Brett : All our ceilings are too low. How much is it anyway?
Sandra : 250 pounds.
Friends: You can get it for her birthday.
Brett : It’s quite expensive for what it is.
Sandra : How much did you spend this week?

BAM!!! I couldn’t think of anything to say. She got me!

Rest of weights just arrived (1hr before workout). Off to use them now.

Is that a dip station the weights were resting against?

You’re lucky. My wife would just buy the chandeller and ask me if I liked it afterwards.

mine wouldn’t even ask if I liked it

un42 - I didn’t realise how tatty my old stuff was until I got the new stuff.

Eco - Yeah it’s just dip bars. I’ve already got a chin up bar on my cage.

Snatches @ 132 lbs x lots

Squats @ 358 lbs x 3-3-3

Bench press (pause on chest) @ 204 lbs x 6-6

RDLs @ 314 lbs x 3-3-3

Face pulls @ 88 lbs x 10-10

Leg curls @ 100 lbs x 5-5

CG U/H Pulldowns @ 165 lbs x 10-8

Pushdowns @ 110 lbs x 10-8

Ab rollouts (off knees) x 7-7

Lots of work to be done on the snatches. Must learn to drop lower. Did enjoy them though. I always find squatting after snatching more comfortable for my joints.

Some snatches

brilliant snatches, well done. I’m in no position to judge technique but you look like you’d add a lot to the bar with a bit of practice.

Sunuvabitch. you’re a natural snatcher.

My heart seethes with jealousy.

hehe, the wife is already working on evening the score.

and yes, we’ll soon see you snatching 120 kilos as easily as you squat 160

Great weights, remember you can drop them. Where I do most my lifting the secretaries on the next floor down panic when they here a 30# DB drop.

you are pretty snappy.

you can’t chastise us for drooling then keep posting pics.

Awesome! New toys. Snatches. Great stuff.

Here’s to the wife not taking too much advantage of the situation.

Nice looking snatches, you are definetly motivating me to get better at them. Nice work

Tried to watch your snatch videos and keep getting “this video is set to private”. I’m sorry I’m late, can I play, too?
Edit: Came through how. We do them very similar, with almost no squat. I do the mostly with a more narrow grip.

Those looked smooth and easy. The new toys look really good.

Wow. You really are such a natural when it comes to lifting.

Nice snatches. Very snappy. Good positions all the way up. One criticism, your elbows bend too soon. It doesn’t look like you are trying to pull the weight up by doing so, but rather position it in your hip crease. To help fix it you could try a slightly wider grip. This would put the bar at your hip crease without needing to bend your arms. Also (or instead) apply inwards pressure with your hands on the bar, from the start until the bar hits your hip crease. This makes it less natural to bend your arms.

As for getting under the bar, start using heavier weights. Drop snatches can also help to some degree. Very different feel and timing from actual snatches, but at least gets you used to catching heavy weights lower and in a dynamic situation. High hang snatches are also good.

Brett - I’m full on coveting… your new weights and bar, not your snatch.

I agree with everybody else. ALong with being strogn as a rutting elk, you appear to be a natural for the Oly lifts. Are you ever gonna compete? It seems like a waste for you to be this good and not scoring some hardware for it.
