Paused box squats + some partials

Last four videos haven’t loaded, I don’t know why, I’m not doing anything different. So I’ll try the youtube route.

Great work, Brett.
Love squats?? Masochist! I guess it takes all kinds, though.
Why did you have 5 days off?

My wife and I and 4 friends went to the coast to stay in a friends cottage (1/2 a mile from the sea) for a few days. We took our motorhome and stayed an extra couple of days afterwards “wildcamping”. It was a really nice few days.

However, when we got back we learned one of our neighbours who’d had a heart attack and stroke about a week ago and was recovering well (he’s only in his early fifties) has just had another attack and a bleed and the prognosis is not good. Really makes you re-evaluate things. My wife and our other friends have all started a health kick and I guess I won’t be skipping any more cardio.

This is very interesting. I will be following with great interest.

I’ll bet those partials were challenging since you’re such a deep squatter and not used to initiating the ascent from that point.

And nice DLs. You just have very, very nice form and never seem to deviate from that no matter how heavy the weight gets. How can that be?

Glad you’re back.

I’m thinking partials might be a really good thing for me. Of course not at the asskicking levels you do them at but still.

THAT WAS COOL!

I’m just continually amazed by your work ethic. Hot damn you work hard. As for health, I think you’d be amazed at how healthy heavy lifters are. Doing a bit of regular time in the hamster wheel is always a good thing, but I’d say you don’t have much to worry about.

That last deadlift vid got me fired up.

Sorry about the neighbor. Glad to hear that you had a good/fun trip, though. It does great things for the body and soul to get away for a bit.

And a health kick is always a good thing. Though, a health habit is better. You’ve got the working out down. Should be little adjustment for you.

Punnyguy & Joe - It’s early days on the partials, I’m not sure I’d recommend them just yet. Time will tell.

KP - Thanks for the form compliments, you’re such a flatterer! And as for being back?, it did me good to have a break and gave me a chance to prove to my wife (and myself) that I’m not completely addicted to this website.

Null - Thanks for stopping by.

Kent & Strick - I’m not too worried really, I’m just tidying up my diet a bit by cutting out the simple carbs and making sure I keep up the cardio. I’ve worked out 3-5 times a week all my adult life so I should be OK, but the one thing at the back of my mind is that I don’t know any family medical history. My mum was adopted and I’ve never known my father (my parents divorced when I was 2 and I’ve never seen him since) so I guess I’ll just have to work on the things I can control and try and forget about the rest.

Actually, I struggle against being too much of a critic in life. I only compliment when it’s well-deserved.

Hill sprints 12 x 35 yds

Worked extra hard tonight, left much less rest between sprints.

A pic of my hill.

Nice looking hill. The one I want to use looks about as steep, but is covered in rocks, cobbles to small boulders, and right now about 6 feet of snow. Will have to wait until late April at least to use it. Good work all around in here.

Ha Ha Ha. That made me laugh.

We lifters are a strange breed. Most “normal” people would see a hill like that, think I don’t want to walk up that and start looking for the escalator. We on the other hand, can appreciate the steepness and start to think how many times we could run up it or what we could carry up it.

I’ve been considering doing farmers’ walks up it. The only thing is I can’t think of a way to get the weights back down to the bottom without carrying them down with me.

Bench Press (dead stop, off chest)

132 x 3
176 x 3
220 x 3
264 x 1
275 x 1
286 x 1

Lockouts

286 x 3
308 x 3
341 x FAIL x 1

Full ROM bench

264 x 1
286 x 1
308 x FAIL

Slow negative

352 x 1 (wasn’t that slow)

Face Pulls @ 77 lbs x 10-10-10-10

DB Press @ 53 lbers x 11-7-5

Pushdowns @ 88 lbs x 8-8-8-8

Thought I was going to get the 308, which would have been a PR, after getting the 286 from a dead stop, but I think by that stage I was getting tired. Maybe I’ll be good for it fresh.

286 x 1 (off chest) then 308 x 3 and 341 x 1 (lockouts) then 352 x 1 (negative)

I don’t know if it’s the music, old rusty weights, bare bones no nonsense equipment, your work ethic, the variety in your workouts or what, but i can sit and watch your videos over and over. I get much inspiration from this thread…not a good place to lurk during a deload week though, just makes me wanna go lift. Awesome hill…is that all your land around it? Wish we had more open country like that around here.

lol…most people would be trying to figure out a way to get the weight up that hill…

I like the DL training vid. You have excellent form. No rounded back at all and chest stayed nice and high. I’ll have to start getting some vids up over on my log soon. Most of my PR attempts are done at the local YMCA. I don’t get there often but will make some attempts in the next month or so to shoot some video.

Embo - Thanks for that. It made my day.

Osu - Yeah shoot some vids. I put all my recent improvements down to joining this site and taking videos. They give you the chance to view your own lifting from the outside. Form issues you didn’t know you had become very clear and then you can get advice how to fix 'em.

This afternoon’s job.

Hopefully turning this old chain harrow into some chains I can use for squats and bench.
