Experience with 20 Rep Squats for Mass

Are 20 rep squats all that they are cracked up to be? I read about them and it sounds like 20 rep squats a couple of times a week or a combination of 20 rep squats one day and max sets of five another could be the key to mass building. What are thoughts and/or experiences with this program?

Also, I have read about doing barbell complexes building mass due to the increased time undre tension? I thought complexes were for fat loss exclusively. Any thoughts?

Look for “DC Training” in the search bar.

Complexes for mass? Fuck no. However, they are are pretty good way to do a quick cardio workout in a manner that won’t eat up your muscle like a long run tends to.

You’re implying that 20 rep squats offer less “time under tension” than complexes. Why do you think that? Less reading, more doing, please. Two sessions (one for squats, one for complexes) in the gym with adequate weight and you’d have answered your own question.

P.S. 20 rep squats will destroy you if you aren’t serious about 'em, but they’ll annihilate you if you are serious about 'em

My latest 20 rep squat conquest was with 315(actually 21 reps, I digress); if you’d tried telling me that was less TUT than a complex I would’ve ripped your spine out, if I could muster up the energy to get off the floor.

All I know about 20 rep squats twice a week with 290 put .75 of an inch on my legs in a month and a half and sucked major ass.

It works, don’t complicate it with anything complicated.

Just came across this vid: 462x20 (plus more)

those 20 reps were fucking amazing. i can barely move my legs from my workout two days ago but that made me want to go squat

Were those glute-ham raises sped up at all? Otherwise that man has the posterior chain of a god doing them that fast after those squats.

He posts in the Powerlifting Forum as “Skizac”.

Damn, what a beast!!

Just a note as not always obvious to all, DC 20 reps are done ala “breathing squats”. You don’t do a weight you can do 20 reps on, pick around a 10-12 rep weight and use pauses to get to 20.

Badass. Loved the commentary, so true.

That was a great video.

I’d love to have some plates like that at my gym. I’m not saying I’d need as many as him, but there’s something about those colored Eleikos!

Badass… that video made the hairs on my back straighten up… also gave me some lust to train… : )

And, they’re deep squats, with good form… great work

There’s NO key to building mass. There are men who’ve built huge quads–actually huge bodies–with 1 to 20 reps! Tell me what the magical number of reps within that range is.

OP, if you’re aim is to get as big as fucking possible, then follow a program that’s the best for getting big as fucking possible - a bodybuilding program.

Stay tuned! I’m going to be making a post detailing everything one fucking needs to be a successful bodybuilder.

What’s with this TUT shit? Did any successful bodybuilder ever think of this? No. They went to a gym and did 6 to 15 reps per exercise. That’s it!

OP, just because some activity involves more TUT than another, doesn’t make it a more suitable activity for gaining mass. I get plenty of TUT on a stationary bike session of 30 to 40 minutes. It doesn’t do much for quad mass.

Due to being a weak fucker with bad squat form (and also a lot of 6 mile runs some years ago), 20 rep squats left me being able to squat 95 kgs breathing style for 22 reps with a max at 110 kgs. (And a parallell box squat at 140 kgs.) Weird. Good for size, not that good for 1RM, IMHO.

Thanks for checking out my videos. Yeah, the GHRs and the ab pulldowns at the end of the video are sped up. I wish I hadn’t done that now, b/c several people have thought that I was really doing them that fast!

^^ This is what I love about this guy…level 5, only 145 posts and that squat video. In other words…no bullshit.
Sorry if that sounded sarcastic…it wasn’t
