Exercises for Losing Fat

I have been lurking around these boards for about a year now and I have chimed in here and there. I see most posts here are about gaining weight and bulking. I don’t really see many articles for those of us that are trying to lose the fat. Is there a specific section that this is located or am I in the minority?

Theres lots of stuff for people trying to lose fat. When trying to lose fat, its mostly your diet and cardio that will cause you to lose fat. Here are some good links for you.

Scottie…
Tflex ‘held your hand’ and led you to some articles. I am going to be some what harsher and kick your butt…
You say you have been lurking this site for a while (you said about a year) and you have yet to find much about losing weight? You are certainly in the ‘majority’ on this continent, looking for a quick fix are you?
Try reading the articles, you would be amazed at how much information there is FREE for you…
I don’t mean that you have to read all the articles, I just did a search on the archives for articles about ‘losing fat’, I got almost 16000 hits. You say you haven’t seen many such articles, you have not been looking very hard.
I hope you put more thought into the routine and diet you eventually get, unless you are going to give the resposibility for your fat loss to a personal trainer…

Hey Scott

Remember that muscle burns calories even at rest. Add more muscle = increased calorie expenditure = improved likelihood of fat loss (provided your calories don’t increase too and you were already at maintenance.)

Proper diet, weights and energy system work is the best way to fat loss and improved body composition.

Peace,

I agree with that. It sounds as if he was under the impression that losing fat had nothing to do with building muscle or maintaining the muscle you have through resistance training. the exercises you do to lose weight are the same exercises you do to gain muscle. The only difference is diet and cardio.

BFG’s best fat burning exercises:

1 deadlift
2 squat
3 power clean
4 push press
5 pullup
6 bench press
7 row

Guess what my best strength and size gaining exercises are.

Bastard F*ck Guy

I know there are articles that I can read, I am not that stupid. What I meant was all the posts that I read from people all seem to be about bulking up. For those that are skinny bastards and need to gain weight. Maybe I am not reading the right posts. I will have a lot of reading to do.

That excuse doesn’t work either - I just did a post search for “cutting fat” and got 16385 results; “losing fat” came up with 15800

You sure do.

Hey,

I will add that the best excercise for losing fat is ANY. That is any that you are not cuurently doing and you will do on a consistant basis. Simply raising the amount of activtity.

Nailing a solid diet is crucial.
You have been given a great list of artricles to start with.

Also the reason you are not seeing many post about losing weight is we are at the end of summer. Seems that everyone is switching to bulking for the winter. You should have looked around from Feb-June all there was were ppl talking and asking about cutting.

With me being one of the few exceptions. Felt kinda good to. I said screw leaning out. I NEED SOME MASS. So I began a bulk, been going since May and not planniong to stop till this coming spring. Then I’ll lean up for the summer and see what I was able to accomplish in a year.

Good luck, Also some more specific ?'s, personal stats., training and diet info. would help a lot for us to help you. So bring on the info. for us to give info. in return.

Hope that helps,
Phill

Scott78945,
In my life I practically never did cardio and diets. My 2nd child Stefano was born 3 weeks ago at 6 lbs, 7 weeks earlier. For this reason he remained at the hospital for a couple of weeks. During this period I went 4 times/day to the hospital walking more than usual.
At the end I lost about 3 lbs, mainly fat, eating as usual. In my T-Nation Archive I found these papers:
Fat to fire 1 and 2 by Davies
Meltdown 1 and 2 by Alessi
Endurance and Hypertrophy Paradox by Waterbury
Outlaw Strength and Conditioning by Waterbury
EDT by Staley

Scott has a point. Most of the new articles on this site are about getting bigger and building more muscle.

Not that it’s a bad thing. There are only so many ways that you can say “Diet and Energy work” before it gets silly.

Basically when you are cutting you’re going to want to continue the heavy lifting to preserve your muscle and let the diet and energy work take care of the fat. That’s it in a nutshell.
