Exercises For Hotel/Dorm?

I saw web page before about doing exercises while on the go (in hotel rooms/dorm), ie: doing a dip with 2 chairs, without training equipment. Does anyone know where is that webpage again? I remember its kind of like in a web magazine format. Thanks

I know what you’re talking about, but I can’t remember the
site either. It was almost all bw exercises, right?

I’m assuming you travel a lot or don’t have a lot of room .If you’re looking for a compact, portable device that can add resistance, check out the bully xtreme:

I just bought one and like it a lot

There is also CT’s article on the same subject. It is called “The McGyver Workout” or something very similar to that… Look it up!

open the bathroom door, shove a towel in the gap between the door and the floor. Now you can do improvised pullups.

im having a really hard time visualizing this…

Ah the dorm room. You can always get a female partner and practice some pelvic thrusts.

Seriously though, have your girlfriend sit on your back and do some pushups. That’ll put some hair on your chest. Also, the hardest part about training MacGyver style is getting a good back workout. Make sure your push exercises are matched by pulling ones.

Just a few suggestions:

  • Deep jump squats, done in Tabata style, for 20 sec work/10 sec rest. Squat all the way down.

  • One legged-squats. If you don’t have strength and/or balance, place one leg on a chair behind you.

  • Hindu pushups. They are fun.

  • For any other exercise, try doing it either very fast, for time, like max reps in 30 seconds. Or, on the other hand, try doing in slowly, making a few stops in the ROM and holding every position for a few seconds.

Hope this helps.

Not bodybuilder workouts - but good supplimental general conditiong work, and definitely better than no workout at all. He has some very useful ideas on there.

Bands take up basically no room and you can get a lot of different exercises using them alone. Tate has some articles about it.

Find a spot where two railings meet in a corner. Much sturdier for dips than chairs!

I’ll add: hi-rep wrist curls with 20oz watter bottle and single arm curls using the laptop backback. Probably my favorite is doing sprints - outside of course.

That’s why you shove the towel under the door

ooooooooh now I understand what you mean…

I think it’d just be easier to find something to just do pullups on… a tree being an example.

you could also buy one of those doorway chinup bars, too. those are pretty cheap

Those chinup bars are cheap, but to make them stable you have to screw them into the wall. I doubt the hotel/dorm owner would like that. I have one that I’ve been unable to use for that reason. With the one I have, you can expand it within the doorway without using screws and it’ll work a little, but then when you’re in the middle of a pullup it’ll come loose.

Huh, not sure what you’re talking about. Maybe there’s a different variation, so i’ll explain the ones I do

Basically, get in a squat stance. Throw your hands in the air and imagine you were hand cuffed. Next, squat down and as get to the floor, put your hands on the floor and kick your feet backwards. Now you’ll be in push up form, do a push up, and when you come up, kick you legs back up under your body and ascend up. Make sure your hands are still on the ground as you kick feed toward your chest. And as you come up, put ur hands back up in the air like you started. Just in case you didn’t undertand, here you go.

Here’s a good article on gymnastics. Make sure to check out the rest of the bodyweight training articles.

Yeah, that’s the 4-part or 4-step version. The 3-step leaves out the push-up — probably not as good for upper body, but you can do it longer.
