Im 38 and in decent shape - I tend to aim for 4 days weight training and 2 days playing golf. The golf does take 4 hours a round so it’s a long old walk. My diet is good and my sleep is around 7 -7 half hours and obviously working too.
I can’t seem to recover from this very well. I normally do 2-3 days in a row then need a day off…
Am I expecting too much or are most guys able to do this most weeks ?
I’m 48 and in better shape than most of the population and probably would not be able to recover well from this. But what I can do isn’t really applicable to you and vice versa, so I don’t think you should get hung up on what others are able to do. That’s a fool’s errand.
The golf is for sure adding additional stress and you effectively have only one recovery day per week. You’re doing 50-60 low intensity explosive movements (or more if you are terrible at golf like me lol) plus walking a ton of steps.
If you used to be able to recover from this and now you can’t, listen to your body and modify either the training or golf volume.

Hi thanks for the reply.
Agree with you in the not getting caught up in comparing myself to others. We are all different in that sense.
I guess when I put it in writing it actually shows me I am maybe expecting to be able to do to much! I’ve been on trt for 3 months and have been able to do a bit more so should just take that and be happy I guess. It’s crap not being 18 anymore lol
Yeah, the good old days lol. I’ve been on “TRT” for about 2.5 years. I should have done it years ago.
I use quotes because I’m for sure running higher than replacement but I feel good and bloodwork is good so I don’t care what it’s called with what I’m doing as long as it works for me.

Yeah I think treat how you feel as long as certain bloods are within range. I’m only on 105mg per week but just lowered I having a strong response and levels were over ref range in uk at 960 and I didn’t feel as good.
My levels when I started was at 800 then 3 months in up to 960 thought it would lower after natural t stopped but just seemed to raise ??

When you say you can’t recover does that mean your lifts are going down, your motivation is down, your golf game is off…are you sore or stiff or injuries are mounting? 2 or 3 days and then a day off seems fine but actually depends on you and your effort, loads, duration, intensity, etc look like.
I can only share my n=1 anecdotal experience, but I guess that’s what you’re asking?
I’m 44. My current program is 4 strength days per week and 2 accessory days. I aim for at least 2 LISS sessions and 2 HIIT or conditioning days per week. I have no idea if I recover well or not, to be honest. I don’t really know what it’s supposed to feel like, so that’s a hard one to answer. I get up pretty early for work, so I get about 5-6 hours of sleep per night. I eat very well. I’m always sore, but part of that might be the fact that I broke a ton of bones and joints when I was in my twenties and have a bunch of rods and screws holding me together. I’m usually tired, but that’s probably a result of the short sleep. I’m able to continue lifting and making progress, though, so I would say I’m recovering? I think the human body - at any age - can take more than we give it credit for.
The only thing I hate is how much time this all takes me.
