Sprints Wars 2013.
Yesterday was super humid, muggy, sticky but it was my son’s last day home so we headed over to the high school to throw down a 100yard sprint for all-time bragging rights…My wife came along to be the starter and timer…she got the first part right but not the second…see with a stopwatch you actually have to push a button to make it start and stop…hahaha
I warm up, my boy sits on the turf and watches…I run a couple of 100’s to get ready, he jogs 30 yards and sits down…we get up to starting line I peer over at him and mumble “i’m going to kick your ass”…In return I get a chuckle followed by " Oh no you’re not"
My wife calls ready set go and at go…I went or at least my brain said I went…but for some reason I was already looking at the back of Paul’s shirt…the race was really over in the first 20 yards…he had a better reaction and put way more power to the turf to accelerate. By 30 yards he had me by 7-8 yards by 50 it was 10 and it finished with me 12 yards behind…It was awesome!
20 seconds after the race he had recovered…20 minutes after the race I was still panting like a long haired dog in the desert in July!
It was a fun 12 seconds…It was an athlete and an old goat sharing 12 seconds and building a stronger bond. Sprint Wars 2014 is only 364 days away…I gotta go train!
The lumping picture cracks me up. Sprints are brutal and really give one perspective. When you finish and the world is spinning, your breathe is opened up like a bellows, and your mind goes to that place where you are one with the universe that feeling is irreplaceable.

My son came home from the military on leave and Dad was going to show him he could still outswim him. Pretty much resembled your sprint results. I just considered it passing the torch.
Duuude! Didn’t know you were such a PC type of guy…
Well done, and well written.
I think it’s funny when I do sprints I keep telling my feet to go faster but they just don’t listen. I’m not sure I could beat my 14 year old in a sprint.
Fascinating you can spend such quality time with your son. My father never did anything of the sort, so I have to watch other people do it.

OG, I like the way you think!
Nice work…in the gym and with your son!
Well written sprint story OG. By the way I consider 100 yds distance running. I stick to 40 yard sprints so I can recover within 10 minutes of doing a couple.
