Examples of 'Interesting' Training

Sorry for the shakiness; I was pretending to text. This went for a couple of minutes…then I thought of this thread and brought the phone out to catch it.

I almost pissed myself watching this.

LMAO just spent the last 5 min laughing at this

Captured this little gem this morning. The Hoff squat is spreading like the plague.

But dude that is 135lbs. Even a 135 lb half squat is strong, and for reps no less.

I know it’s blurry, but he’s wearing an “NWO” shirt, a “Hollywood” head rag, and a customized weight belt that says Hollywood Hogan.

He’s about 5’6, maybe a buck fifty.

135 quarter squats with the sissy pad on the bar. WHY?!

Grabbed this yesterday. The guy went on to have a very uh,… interesting training session, but this really stood out to me as unique. Maybe it’s some new Crossfit movement

“Toes to bar” I believe is what they (crossfitters) call them.

For a Pro bodybuilder to spend his time mocking others because they don’t know what they are doing is absolutely pathetic. I can’t imagine any of the greats such as Arnold, Dorian, Franco or Ronnie doing such a thing.

Quit taking yourself so seriously man. You’re comparing apples and oranges anyway; can you imagine Arnold, Dorian, Franco, or Ronnie taking time each day to chat with, generously share knowledge, and update his training to an online community? Stu is one of the best assets TNation has. Is he not allowed to enjoy a lighthearted chuckle at the antics that so many of us shake our heads at in the gym?

JBL5- Obviously our little thread here has touched a nerve with you. I don’t know your training experiences, or anything about you, but I think most people who have been participating will agree that this has been a light hearted bit of humor in sharing some of the more odd and ‘interesting’ things we see in gyms every day and nothing really malicious.

I know that in my gym, there are all sorts of people pursuing all sorts of goals. I focus on myself and what I’m doing, and if someone has a question, I’m always trying to be as helpful as I can. But, the gym will always be a place of egos, disillusion and misinformation, and as such there’s a certain degree of entertainment to be taken away from it no matter how serious you take yourself.

If the few things written in this thread by myself and others truly offends you, then I’m sorry, but perhaps you should grow a little thicker skin. Nothing has been vicious or seriously ‘mocking’ as you put it. It has just been a little but of fun on subject that we all share an interest and investment in. I’m sure that we’ve all been the clueless guy at some point. in our training careers, and I know for one that I can laugh at every boneheaded thing I’ve done.

No need to explain yourself Stu to people who lack a sense of humor… Well said either way.

135lb squa’s were hilarious… yes I left the T off on purpose since he was squa-ing and not squating…

Got one earlier today where I didn’t have to pretend to be sneaky. This is the tip of the iceberg of what I see on a daily basis…

Anytime I see a grown adult (or even a kid) wearing a helmet, there’s no way I’m making any jokey comments, even though I tease my wife about making her have to wear one when she does something especially flakey. Having friends with ‘special needs’ children, I can understand being a bit sensitive. Still, Taking a non-gym situation and interpreting it in gym terms, I see where you’re going. (I’m not offended, just stating that some people might be, and I would understand if they were). Nice not to have to worry about being stealthy though.

In the meantime,… here’s a regular at my gym from this morning. Nice enough kid, he’s there like clockwork, and definitely committed to his training. Sadly, he ignores whenever any of the more experienced guys offer help and he’s never gotten beyond the “move the bar at any costs” mentality, and I usually get to watch as he piles more and more weight on bars and proceeds to kip-bench-press, kip-curl, kip… well, you name it. Now I’m no powerlifter to talk about setting a quality arch, but I think we can agree that if this young man is trying to pump up his pecs, he’s not exactly going about it in the best manner.

I’m not offended, its not like any of the footage is of me training. I just don’t quite understand why someone who spends a large amount of time acting professionally on these forums, giving out good advice, would do something like this. I just think its rather pathetic for a grown man to put this much effort in to laughing at what others are doing. But each to their own, I guess.

I wouldn’t have filmed it if I thought that was an issue, believe me. He pulled up on a motorbike and left it on.

You sound offended.

I tried telling this dude he’d probably see a lot better results on the calf exercises if he moved more than 3 inches in the middle of the ROM. He wasn’t having it.

Note Alderslodge’s location:

And JBL5’s location. I conclude he’s the athlete in the vid. No wonder he’s so offended.
