first, sorry if its a repeat thread (but interesting anyway…)
i’ve read some encounters in other forums, memories of ‘golden age’ bbers and recent encounters.
Just wondering if you have any stories to share

Just an interesting vid along these lines, taken by some guys in 99 who met Levrone and videod it - Levrone seems pretty cool, even shows off a little and has some fun
I’ve been to the Arnold Classic 3 years in a row now so I’ve met pretty much everyone except for Arnold hahah!
The nicest guy was Kai Greene. He seemed geniunely happy to be with his fans and after we won we were at the Arnold Classic after party and had snuck into the VIP section. He saw me wanting to go over and say hi but I obviously didn’t want to disturb him after his competition. He yelled at me and my GF to come to his table and have a few wings with him and shoot the shit!
Gunther is a good guy too, arm wrestled him jokingly 2 years in a row and he remembered me.
Coleman was awesome but his wife was hawking pictures, DVDs, books and other misc items to people who just wanted a quick picture and a hello.
Jay Culter was super bored to be there. Zane and Ferrigno both charge you at least $5 to stand next to them and take a picture, which was stupid.
Don’t know if you could count him as a BB but I met Matt Kroc there too and we talked to me for a good 20 mins because he recognized my powerlifting team and wanted to talk shop! Learned a lot from him and now that I’ve read the T-Nation article on how important his fans are, it only solidifies how cool he was to meet.
I’ll try to think of a few others!
Cool video. I have only met one PRO bodybuilder (Idrise Ward-El used to train at my gym), but I have known a lot who competed in NPC level.
Idrise was fucking huge but didn’t seem to mind my dumb questions about his technique. Considering the looks he got when he trained, it used to make me wonder how he stayed focused when all eyes were on him. The dude would literally attract an entourage at times.
old pic but darrem charles trains clients at a gym i go to when i go to fla on leave
Ben White trains at my gym. He seems pretty cool, likes to talk a lot though…lol
I worked at Kevin Levrone’s gym back in 96 - he gave me my first job out of prison. He was pretty cool.

Yes. Several old school (70’s) bodybuilders.
I even have a cool Arnold story… which I don’t have time to tell about at the moment.

Markus Ruhl before i really knew who he was lol. My friend called me up and wanted to go on a 30min drive to see him at a reflex. Got the typical bicep felxing post. Super nice guy

When you do write it down, it should get its own thread! Or I’ll just check back here.
Ive said it before, Nasser El sonbaty works out at the gym i go to. So i chat with him from time to time. Still big as shit lol.
I recall a thread last year (or before) where someone had a pic that happened to have Jay Cutler in the background by accident.
I’ve met Branch Warren, it was in december last year here in Sweden but he seemed really tired or bored, must have been jet-lag or something.
Dorian Yates, Chris Cormier. I saw Branch Warren and Evan Centopani but never spoke to them, they did a seminar and guest posing.
Chris Cormier is a really nice down to earth guy, he was attended the Mr. Ireland contest last September with Dorian Yates.
I first met Dorian Yates back in 1998, I was 18 and 3 years into training, he did a seminar and outined his training routines, techiniques, principles, diet and such, it really flew in the face of the way I trained up until then, so I took his advice and cut down on the sets and frequency I used and adapted the training principles he used to suit my own routines.
When I saw Dorian again I asked him more questions to clarify certain queries I had, again, real nice guy and very eager to answer any questions I had, great inspiration and a true Champion.
try again
Peter Putnam, but I was too busy staring at his wife to hold a conversation with him.

Don’t remember his name, but a Nigerian ex-IFBB pro who’s easily the leanest person I’ve ever seen year-round. He said he’s only like 210 [at about 6’1"] but he looks like an anatomy chart. He has veins [plural] in his upper arms that are about half as thick as my pinky. He was at the same gym I was and he never fluctuated in appearance in the 2+ years I saw him. Pretty nice guy to boot.
