Ever Heard of Plates Less Than 2.5 Lbs?

Again, I’m not disagreeing with Modok. I’m just pointing out that most of the people on these boards aren’t likely to be anywhere near their genetic maximum.

I think for most of us, microloading is like weighing yourself every day or anally tracking every calorie. You don’t have to make it that complicated. It is a joke for most people to even think about adding 1 pound plates to a 225 pound squat, for example. Go until you hit 10 reps, then add enough weight to lower your reps to 7-8. For the vast majority, that incremental weight is going to be a lot more than 1-2 pounds.[/quote]

Someday, I hope to no longer be included in your description of “most of us”.

Therefore this VALUABLE FUCKING INFORMATION this VERY PATIENT man is giving us will pop into my head one day, I will think of his avatar fondly, chew some gum on my way to the hardware store to buy some big washers (thanks Bill) and keep moving forward. Further along from your “most of us”.

Shit, asking someone to not share this information is like refusing free Superbowl tickets for 2015 because you don’t know who is playing.

(okay, okay, maybe this isn’t s cool as the Superbowl, but shit you never know. Could mean a significant difference over time.)

Regardless, dude stop asking people to stop giving out info, because the “vast majority” isn’t ready for it in your opinion. WTF?

I didn’t think he did that.

Our language suffers from the fact that there is no really accepted pronoun to mean people in general.

I know that I probably sound pedantic when I write “one doesn’t have to” or whatever, when I mean a person in general but not necessarily the reader, when most would write “you don’t have to” regardless that they don’t mean actually the person they are responding to, or talking with.

It seems to me it’s a worse problem in writing. But even in person, people have a tendency to suspect one is talking about them personally when saying “you don’t have to” or things like that.

In this case, my guess was forlife meant “A person in general doesn’t have to make things more complicated for himself with microloading” when writing “You don’t have to make it that complicated.”

I don’t think Modok was the “you.”

Of course, I could be wrong on the intended meaning.

You could be right. If so, sorry for flipping out Forlife.

Although some of my point stands if not directly related to Forlife’s post.

It’s cool, and I agree with you that Modok’s info is valuable. Maybe most people already understood that he was referring to the small percentage that are near their genetic max when advocating microloading. I just wanted to clarify it, because so many times on these boards I see newbies acting on advice that is targeted to a more advanced group.

I agree that this doesn’t need to be complicated and that most of us do tend to over think this shit. But that’s the beauty of microloading. What could be more simple than just adding more weight to the bar when otherwise a person couldn’t because the increment would be too large.

Modok said he’s been using microloading with success for OVER 15 YEARS! You can’t deny that even small increments add up over time. That’s the real point of this. Getting big and strong is not an overnight endeavor. It takes years to build a world class physique. People need to look at the big picture.

Don’t knock it til you try it.

Kaizen.

maybe. i think you can either use em or not even worry about them when you first start off. infact, i dont think i’ve used a 2.5lb plate once in a single workout.

however, when you start reaching certain srength level, i can see where modok says they are needed.

granted, how many of us on here are as strong/look like modok?

I’ll be disappointed if you don’t photoshop your head on his picture and claim to be his size.

I can see these being especially useful on dumbbells. Do they stick onto rubber DB’s? Also, is there a certain company preferred to buy from or are they all the same? I’ve never used it before but have seen them and seem like they can become useful at times just like straps and wraps.
