That’s what you get for bringing your girlfriend into this discussion.
And no, I’m not posting pictures of my beautiful hand.

What I don’t get is why you care what anyone else is doing in the weight room. I vote for the ear plugs if people making noise bothers you. You seem to think it’s not justified to grunt on 135 for every rep. There’s a vid of Dave Tate doing 365 for 30 and he grunts on every rep. Yes, 365 is different than 135. But what if that 135 feels the same to that guy that the 365 feels to Dave Tate?
I think if you’d get those ear phones and just concentrated on what you were doing…the rest would melt away.
As an aside, every time I go out to eat, I find people with horrible table manners that bother me. Do you think I should confront them because they’re slirping their drinks or chewing with their mouth partially open?
[/quote]
I usually don’t care. I could give a rat’s ass if people do half-reps, use bad form, cheat. But making a grunting/moaning noise all the time is annoying to me since I can’t just turn my head. I don’t like to wear head-phones, but I will now be wearing them.
365x30 is damn strong, but no, I don’t think Dave Tate needs to grunt starting at rep 1. 365 is less than 50% of his 1RM, no?
If someone has horrible table manners and you eat with them on a frequent basis, and it annoys you, then yes…call them on it. If that doesn’t solve the problem, go to plan B.

Any suggestions for some quality headphones? I’ll spend $100 if I have to.
Will earbuds be enough to completely cancel out the grunting?
I grunt in my sleep. I think I need a cpap.

Yes, just turn up the volume to a reasonable level.
No need to spend $100.

I’m an o-niner. Come on.
I want to make sure I get some quality earbuds.

I’ll spend more if it’s worth it. I’d say up to $200 since I’ll be using them for 4-5 hours a week.
Definitely looking for bang for the buck, though.
I think you just need to get in the gym and lift, if you focused enough, you dont think of anything, you in your own little world where its just you in the bar, nowhere to run nowhere to hide.
I call this place, home.
…and grunting before/during your lifts can jack up test too.
EDIT: stfu and lift!
Producer you are a pussy. If someone wants to grunt every rep they can grunt every rep, just like I can turn my car stereo up to whatever noise I like. Sure I may look like a douche but that’s up to me. If you have a problem you come over and tell me. As far as I’m concerned you’re using one guy; example uno and creating an entire issue around that one guy like it applies to the general populous, whether it be at your gym or everywhere. Fact is its only that one dude that probably grunts to your intolerable level of grunting. In other words hes the only one raising your temperature and now you’ve build this vendetta argument around that. Grunting is NOT an international issue.
I advice you to never get into an argument with countingbeans again. Argue with me from now on. He fits into a stereotype of the “stubborn,” “elitist” poster. He has never withdrawn from a particular ideology or thought he has ever had. When global sea levels rise these people will be the ones to immediately blame the “Earth” itself. They are ignorant and annoying at times but have a propensity to be intellectual stimulating and generally correct.
C’mon Producer pussy---- round 1?

Sober up.
What gym are some of these guys going to where they’ve never encountered a grunter that is just too loud and annoying? We’re all talking about people that you would otherwise mock in another thread for not being intense enough, but they now get a pass because they grunt!?!?!
And then there’s the Oprah response of “Why can’t you just let them be who they are?” Then comes the complete opposite bit of advice: “Why must you judge you big pussy?”

Ha! I know what you’re yalking about! That takes me back.
On topic: Watch these guys! They obviously are pussies and not working hard enough as they are completely silent during their pitiful lifts:

I was thinking the same thing!
Most of us grunt on effort but when you sound like a maniac passing cannon balls out your arse every time you even look at a weight then you are an annoying git. It’s like these guys have some form of selective weightlifters tourette’s syndrome lol.
I enjoy a good ‘gurn’ when I start lifting, which has caused a few laughs but what the hey! It’s kinda hard wired into my motor programming or something? I assume tourette grunters are the same.
I once knew a guy who was obsessed with Arnie and screamed out each rep in german EINS, ZWEI…lol, fuckin eejit!

I’ve seen that one before, but always good to watch again.
Funny thing is I never make a sound doing o-lifts, maybe a little “up” at the bottom of a heavy C&J, but not much more than that. Now a heavy deadlift, LOL, I can be vocal as hell getting it to lock out.
There is one guy at my gym, competitive BBer, he is the loudest I’ve ever heard, grunts, groans, sighs, the whole bit. If he hears anyone else making the slightest noise he’s all like “c’mon push it” LOL. Cracks me up every time.
Personally I don’t care about any noise in the gym, grunters, dropped weights, it’s not a library. True enough some people over do it, but I’m really too busy with my own shit to worry about them.
i don’t grunt when i lift weights.
swole dudes that are moving big weights and grunting pump me up.
tiny mofo dudes that are grunting on every rep are stupid.
i wear headphones when i work out.
I grunt when I’m fucking holymac…
Wait, what?
