Ever Confront a Grunter?

Grunting is ok if your moving heavy weight, but this grunting with barbie dumbells thing is not cool. It doesn’t really annoy me so much, but it does make the rest of us look bad…

As usual, the answer is found in between both extremes.

In case you missed it, read the original post carefully again. There’s a guy at my gym who grunts on every rep of every set.

Heavy weight is relative, and it doesn’t matter how big you are. There is no excuse for grunting on every rep of every set.

Don’t try to justify your dumbass grunting because you think you’re bigger/stronger than me. You probably are bigger and stronger, and I don’t give a shit. :slight_smile: Again, there’s guys bigger and stronger than you that do not grunt. It’s okay, just focus a little harder and you won’t have to grunt on every rep.

Too bad most of the T-Nation posters are monkeys with horrible reading comprehension and tons of roid-rage.

Stiff-leg deadlifting 135 for about 10 reps does not require grunting/moaning on every fucking rep.

Yup, but I suppose I am on a high horse because I used 2 examples. One guy who grunts on every rep, and me, who was lifting twice the weight and not grunting.

I never claimed to be the strongest. I wasn’t bragging about how strong I was. Of course I’m nothing special, and even if I was, I wouldn’t brag. Just saying that grunting from rep 1 on 135lb SLDLs is NOT involuntary.

What the fuck is the issue? Why are you so concerned with what someone else is doing? Is his grunting impeding your lifting? If so, maybe you should actually try and be a little more intense…if not then wtf does it matter?

Sometimes I grunt just from grunting.

Grunting has been found to be anabolic by about 68% more.

If your moving heavy ass weights, you can make whatever noise/face/grunt/sound that you want.

If a Bosu ball is involved, tape your mouth shut.

You aren’t making any sense, especially when there’s plenty of guys who can outlift you, me, and the imaginary kid, while not grunting.

This thread got a little out of control. Let me clarify my point, so you get off my nuts. I see nothing wrong with a grunt here and there, but as I said in my original post, it’s annoying when someone is grunting for the sake of grunting, starting from rep 1 of a 10+ rep set. Grunting on warm-ups.

Of course it’s going to annoy most people (except other all-rep grunters like yourself).

What I don’t get is why you care what anyone else is doing in the weight room. I vote for the ear plugs if people making noise bothers you. You seem to think it’s not justified to grunt on 135 for every rep. There’s a vid of Dave Tate doing 365 for 30 and he grunts on every rep. Yes, 365 is different than 135. But what if that 135 feels the same to that guy that the 365 feels to Dave Tate?

I think if you’d get those ear phones and just concentrated on what you were doing…the rest would melt away.

As an aside, every time I go out to eat, I find people with horrible table manners that bother me. Do you think I should confront them because they’re slirping their drinks or chewing with their mouth partially open?
