Evan's Offseason Training: Road to a Pro Card

Evan, what’s your eating like now? Still RFL?

Lol…nooo.

I was just on spring break so I pretty much ate like crap every day. I was in Florida visiting family and my Grandma either made dinner (her famous meatballs) or we went out…had dessert pretty much every night and as we are going into my ‘birthday week’ things will likely only continue. I am maintaining leanness fine etc.

Other than that, my diet is an instinctive type of carb cycling. I will up calories on days where I need them and just not eat quite as much on offdays.

oh yeah, damn, happy birthday. i set my goal of looking as much like evan as possible for my 22cnd birthday… now

I intend to surpass Evan before I’m 20. No offense Evan.

Jake and Spar: I hope both of you surpass my 22 year-old gains…the more muscle the better.

So a training update.

I have enlisted the services of John Meadows for training, specifically for bringing up my upper body to match my legs. Since I am paying for his services, I will not list everything I do, just the highlights from workouts and my general split.

My split is the following:
Monday: Legs
Tuesday: Chest/Shoulders
Wednesday: Off
Thursday: Back/Traps
Friday: Off
Saturday: Arms
Sunday: Off

Calves/abs will be done on off days. I will be doing cardio on off-days as well.

Today was Chest/Shoulders and the workout went down like this:

3.13.12: Chest/Shoulders
Flat Dumbbell Twist and Press: 1 second stretch, explode up + flex hard
25 x 15
42.5 x 10
60 x 10
Work Sets:
70 x 10
80 x 10
70 x 10

Incline Barbell Press: Continuous tension
135 x 8
185 x 8
Work Sets
225 x 8
245 x 8
205 x 8

Aerobic Platform (raised with 2 blocks) Stretch Pushups: Full stretch, explode up + flex
3 sets: 20, 18 + 2, 15 + 5

Bent-Over Rear Delt Flies: pinch shoulder blades together, flex as hard as possible
15 x 20
Work sets:
25 x 20
30 x 20, 20

Barbell Front Raise: A bit wider than shoulder width grip, raise bar straight out and over head
Work sets:
Bar x 10
50 x 10, 10

Dumbbell Partial Laterals
Works:
80 x 30, 30, 30

Amazing overall session. The first 3 weeks of JMs training is moderate volume, so the work sets were not crazy high with this. This was the first day since my injury about a month and a week ago that I was able to really push my chest/pressing and it felt great. The twist and press with deep stretches and hard flexes really exhaust the chest and this made inclines pretty tough, especially considering that I haven?t pressed heavy in over a month. Pump in chest was absurd from the pushups also.
Shoulders felt great, and pump was sick from rear delt flies and was crazy with the front barbell raises.

I?m feeling very confident that working with JM will really help me bring up my upper body to match my legs.

Wow, just read through and you inspired me to create my own log!! I’ve only just started lifting but hopefully I can catch you up

Working with JM now? This should be good

First you have an absolutely awesome prep coach. Now your working with one of the best guys programming wise out there!

I admire the fact you must have to work hard to support this sort of coaching, very impressive. Very excited to see if he can take your upper body to the next level.

@ New Adventure: Awesome man! I’ll definitely be checking that log out.

@ BM and Jake: Ya, it’s gonna be great working with someone that has helped a lot of other guys bring up weak parts. Jake, JM’s pricing for training is very reasonable, nowhere near what contest prep pricing is, so it wasn’t too pricy…also, it is my birthday, so I figured it’s also a present for myself lol.

Just stopping in to subscribe to the thread and say awesome work man, been following since your first contest thread and I’ve learned a lot, so thanks. And btw, that leg avatar picture is honestly one of the most impressive natty bbing pics I have EVER seen.

@evan: Awesome stuff then, that’s what I call a decent birthday present! Prep does seem to be the big cost in all that area from briefly looking myself. Coaching/prep coaching is definitely something I will definitely look into in the years to come though.

@gmoore: I have to agree on the picture comment. Still hasn’t sunk in how impressive that is.

It’s E’s birthday today. Wish him well boys.

Happy Birthday Ev <3

ahhh so he’s already been out for his birthday but its his ACTUAL birthday now. Happy birthday again, enjoy the cake etc. 2 months today till I can finally go over to America and drink.

@ Gmoore: Thanks bro, appreciate the support and glad I could help! Thanks, the lighting helps :P, but it’s a good pic!

@ Jake: Ya, prep is by far the most expensive, but it’s not very expensive at all to have someone do your training or offseason diet, and thanks!

@ Austin: :stuck_out_tongue: big 22…thanks brotha!

Happy birthday man!

I think I might have to sell a kidney so I can afford to hire a coach and enter a show next year haha. Glad to hear off-season training is more affordable

Haha thanks bro!

Ya, contest prep is pretty expensive lol.

Luckily, JMs training is reasonable. Think the equivalent to saving the money you’d otherwise spend on booze for 6 weeks or so lol.

3.14.12

Cardio, Calves, Abs

Leg Press Calf Raise: 1 minute timed sets. Slow tempo with emphasis on the stretch.
Warmup
3 pps x 60 seconds
4 pps x 60, 60 sec

Incline Board Leg Raises
4 sets, 25, 22, 20, 17

Standing Rope Crunch
Go up 1 plate every set, continuous tension
5 x 15
6 x 15
7 x 15
8 x 15

25 minutes incline treadmill
10 incline, start speed at 3.3, go up 1 every 5 minutes

Solid day. Birthday celebrations all week and back tomorrow.

22 feels good.

$1000?

Lol, kidding. I look forward to seeing how you progress while under JM’s guidance. Definitely something I’d consider down the line, especially if it’s that affordable.

Haha, well, you can see his prices if you look on mountaindogtraining.com.

I had a bit of a discount, but I did the intense workout package which is 12 weeks worth of workouts, unlimited email questions and guidance which is priced at $350. So, I think it’s a pretty damn good price.
