Awesome. Let’s have kids with a lack of developed self- and motor-control work full-speed submissions and strikes. That can’t be dangerous or poorly-informed at all . . .
I love the idea of kids in martial arts; I abhor the idea of kids sparring. They should be taught technique, shadow boxing, respect for the health and safety of their friends-in-training, and mental toughness. All of those things can be developed without full-speed, full-power competition-style training.
And yes, I’m one of those opposed to pre-ten-year-olds playing full-contact football.
let the kids FIGHT! spartans trained their whole lives.
I think weight-cutting for wrestling at a young age is even worse, but some of those fights were pretty disturbing. If there was a minimum age of 12 or so, combatants wore head gear, and blows to the head were not allowed on the ground, I might be ok with it. As to the grappling, I don’t think kids should be learning chokes or armbars until they are at least 12.
I have a 4 year old and as a father I would not let my child spare until at least the teens years as well. Shadow boxing and bag work until then.
lol nvm i just watched the video pretty brutal
Great to see I’m not the only pansy on here. I couldn’t believe what I was watching yesterday. The only kid who seems to make out ok,is the ONE thats the best the rest just seemed to take hits to the head and get pounded to the floor. How any mother or father can think having this done over and over is good for a kid is crazy!

Sparta eventually suffered from a major population crisis due to the incredibly harsh treatment of children and multiple slave revolts due to the lack of social balance that this obsession caused.
That led to them being overtaken by other Greek superpowers that had much more liberal ideas about child rearing. (Athens, Thebes, Macedon)
How are these kids allowed to box with four ounce gloves and protective gear on? This is fucked up, especially for the kids that haven’t even entered puberty yet. Their bones aren’t even fully developed yet.
Little kids shouldn’t get hit in the head.
Kids can’t make their own decisions, which is why adults look out for them.
MMA is bad for kids.
Bad. Bad. Bad.
I fully support kids learning martial arts. Heck, it’s what I did when I was a kid. But, we weren’t punching each other in the face or applying submission holds.
If the kids are still interested by the time they reach Jr. High, then yeah, go ahead and put some headgear on them and have them spar a bit and maybe work some submission skills.
I can’t believe that one gym had kids sparring IN THEIR 2ND CLASS!!! That’s piss-poor. Hell, I wasn’t ready to spar after my first 2 boxing lessons as an adult.
