I feel very uncomfortable with my gut and figure losing 15 lbs or so will make it go away. However I don’t want to look anorexic!

so Do I have enough muscle to at least look decent?

Nope, sorry buddy. you’re 5’8 160 with a high BF%. That’s bad news. Follow these steps:

1.Stop cutting
2.Pack on muscle
3.Cut when 200lbs+
4.???
5.PROFIT!
NO, it’s

1)Collect underpants
2)???
3)Squat 315 for reps

In case you haven’t noticed, this is a bodybuilding forum…

Most people on this forum would choose to not look like Brad Pitt.

why does brad pitt piss you off?

I noticed this observation posted by another member of this site and it really holds true… Ugh, there’s nothing wrong with wanting to be like Brad Pitt, it’s not Brad Pitt dude you’re missing the point… but what is wrong with males of this generation when their first instinct is to aspire to look like Brad Pitt in Fight club and not Brad Pitt in Troy? or Arnold in…shiet any of his movies?

Where did the desire to become strong, big, and lean become replaced by being small and lean?

Speaking from the general population’s point of view, physique’s like Arnorld’s are just too over the top. There’s a reason why the “meathead” stereotype exists…an average joe sees a big guy and says to him/herself “that guy lives in the gym”…also it seems unpractical to be that big. Lean and average muscle mass=healthy.

this is my take at why the general population wants to be lean with average muscle mass…I’ll probably get flamed to hell and banned but whatever.
Or how about this…
That guy probably does not watch much TV, he probably has to make his own food, he probably cares about himself, he probably has a high self esteem, he is smart enough to figure out how to get that big, he knows his body, he is not a lazy fuck like the rest of the population, he is determined, he knows how to plan, he does not let anything get in his way…yeah that whole meat head thing is utter bullshit!

That said if you surround your training with carbs then you’ll lose fat and gain muscle.

I do this:
8oz of pinapple juice and 1 scoop whey grow 30min prior to training, 5g creatine

After training: 20 oz of orange and pinapple juice, 1 apple, 1 banana, 3 cookies 2 scoops whey grow, 5g creatine, 10g leucine

The rest of the day is meat, nuts and fiberous veggies at every meal

I train hard in the gym.

I’ll use a indirect quote from Arnold:
“You gotta eat carrots.”

unaware…is there a secret hate for the brad-pitt types around here or something?
Ha ha, there ain’t nothin’ secret 'bout it boy!
Brad’s got less muscle than most girls round here!

I’m 260 and I’m afraid to cut yet. Why are you even considering this?

Read this article: The Truth About Bulking

Good luck!

I will not give any advice as I’m sure this guy’s a cave troll.

Even if he’s real…he’s asking these questions in the wrong place. he might as well post this is the “Get A Life (off topic)” forum as it’s unrelated to strength or bodybuilding.

You guys are crazy, I’d love to look like brad pitt!

Oh I don’t mean have his body, it really is nothing spectacular. His face however, I’d take any day. Most (well just plain dumb) guys say they want his body. They don’t realize it is in his face wherein the appeal lies.
Any guy could get that body, but no one would be going around trumpeting how good it is simply cos they’re not brad pitt.

Therefore, coming on a bodybuilding web site, showing us your gay ab shot of brad, then saying "what, is there a hatred of brad pitt types here…’ pretty much annoys everyone. If you want a good body (which I’m sure you do) go for a more muscular, less fame dependent body like brad’s is.

 1. How are you “kinda” noob?
 2. Nope. You have in no way enough mass to look decent.

ok guys ok my bad now forgive me I should’ve posted this on another section

ANYWAYS I will do as you guys say and gain 20-30 more lbs, do a cut, and see if I need to bulk to cut some more from there.

In my eyes, were you to lose 15 pounds, you would look pretty emaciated and feeble. You should truly forget about how you look for a while and start lifting regularly with high intensity and make sure you are eating a lot of food. Focus on getting stronger and putting on weight. Being a smaller guy, your body will put it on in the right places for a while. Before you should even begin thinking about losing fat you need to put on more muscle. That’s my opinion.

If you lost 15lbs of “fat” (it wouldn’t be 100% fat) then you’d just look really skinny and probably sickly.

Lifting heavy and eating a lot of good foods won’t turn you into a “meathead”. Trust me, if that was the case we’d all be pretty fucking big.

Those of us who get that stigma OF “meathead” don’t give two shits about what the average joe thinks of us.

While Brad Pitt looked lean in fight club (and the movies was pretty sweet), he was still very tiny and weak. Two things that the majority of us would NEVER want. Ever.

my concern is that since I’m already fat, if I put on another 20-30 lbs most of it will be fat too? What if I end up with a huge gut and not much muscle? I think I read somewhere that for every 15 lbs you gain 5 of it or so is muscle (with lifting of course)

I understand this will probably take longer than a year to reach my goals (a “not too big but cut body”) I suppose…but I don’t want to have to go into a 1 year cutting diet because I put on so much fat

Eat at slightly above maintenance with a solid protein rich diet and do Starting Strenght for a few months. Then come back.

You look like shit because you lack muscle AND have fat. In the short term, you can probably lose fat and gain some muscle at the same time so just do that.

Just trust us and stop worrying about the chunk you’re carrying around. Lift heavy, eat a lot of food (not fast food and ice cream) and your body will adapt and utilize the energy to build muscle. When you start putting on respectable amounts of muscle, you’re going to increase your basal metabolic rate and I would bet that your fat will either come off or at least look more proportionate than it does right now. You aren’t yet in a position to lose fat. Get on a consistent lifting routine a few times a week and make sure you lift with high intensity. Don’t be one of those babies I always secretly think are pitiful and wish would just get out of the gym so I don’t have to watch them waste their time anymore.

Everyone here recognizes that you are in a rough spot. You are skinny and a bit fat. For now, stop worrying about your fat and start worrying about getting stronger and putting on muscle. After that begins to happen you will see that everything else will fall in place and losing the fat later down the road will come more easily.

Disregard the notion that for every x amount of weight you gain, x% is fat. That’s stupid logic and depends on your diet and training intensity, not to mention the fact that muscle growth occurs in spurts depending on how long you’ve been at it (you’ll see more continuous muscle gain in the beginning).

You need to seriously consider the advice given here and put away your preconceived ideas of what will happen if you increase your food intake.
