Emily's About-Time Training Log

Weight 154.7 (-1.2, total -3.3)

Iron day 7/30 - shoulders and triceps - 15 min/1 mi cardio warmup.

Felt great in the bad way (hard) that’s actually the good way (progress), lol.

@simo74 very cold! But we adapt over the course of the fall and early winter, and I’ve invested quite a bit in good outdoor clothing, which is key. Of course, the more you’re out in it the better it gets, same as the heat, which I don’t handle nearly as well.

Iron day 8/30 - glutes and hams - 15 minute/1 mile cardio warmup.

Great workout, making progress, feeling pleased and motivated.

Weight is back down to pre-holiday numbers, so now the real cut begins.

So many great things in this post!

But this is the best.

20 minutes treadmill with 10 minutes EMOM sprints. I planned for a 45 minute thing, but got confused about the time after posting in Off Topic. I went into some sort of OT fugue state, I guess. I was thinking I had almost an hour and then realized that “OH! 6:45! I have to be in the shower at 7:15!” I’ve been waking up at 5:30 on strength days and today set the alarm for 6, then just glitched out. Which is okay, because the 20 minutes felt quite nice and it’s hard to stay bummed after sprinting.

I try to tell my wife this but she won’t accept it as a legitimate reason for anything.

Does she not understand how flustering it can be when someone is wrong on the internet and then this becomes compounded by other people agreeing with them against all reason? Flustered can easily become disquieted, and from there it’s a short journey to decompensation, which is an actual medical condition!

the failure to generate effective psychological coping mechanisms in response to stress, resulting in personality disturbance or disintegration

Once that happens, well, what can you do? You’re having A CONDITION. Which happened to me yesterday, and has happened many times before as someone who works out in the morning on a time schedule but who can also become flustered and worse through no fault of my own.

I’m not any longer certain you’re married to a caring woman, Skyz. Does she scoff at epileptic puppies? Arthritic horses?

She carries one of those strobing flashlights just to make it worse. :pensive:

I overheard her once talking to the nurse, asking if there was anything they could give me to “ease me along into the darkness”. The school nurse, of all people, but still! :man_shrugging:t2:

I’ve had my moments of doubt, no doubt.

I think she married for money. I heard her one friend laughing. Something about “I bet he doesn’t even last a year…”.

Iron day 9/30 - full body - 15 minute/1 mile cardio warmup.

I continue to love this program. It’s so varied - it seems much better suited to me as a female than the stuff I’ve done in the past based on male best practice. And I continue to enjoy her silence and the beeps to cue sets, which lets me focus on mind/muscle and my own happy thoughts. And I love the FB Girvan groups that let me see other women’s progress all across the age spectrum (men seem to do very well, too - they look strong, but more cross-fit-y).

Happy, happy, happy! I’m getting ready for a snowy walk or snowshoe with the team, then we have an early dinner with friends who are often a bad influence (which I think is mutual - we all four just turn into bad children when we’re together) but they’re doing dry-ish January, as am I, so we’re vowing to be moderate and then be in bed on time. It’s my favorite place, so my dinner will be completely responsible and on-plan.

Super excited about all of it. I don’t know if I’ve left the house except for errands and work since December. Oh, and playing outside. I’ve done that.

Still Friday

One hour snowshoeing on trail at 25°. Lovely. I was feeling my workout, though.

Iron day 10/30 - biceps and back - 15 minute cardio warmup.

Did NOT want to do this today. Did it anyway. And of course I’m glad I did.

I’m always so glad to put them on at the beginning of the season, after I’ve endured the misery of layers of snow and punching through unevenly a couple of times. Then at the end of the year I feel just as happy to shed them. I like mine very much, though. Did you do it on old snowshoes, or recently?

What I found really challenging was xc skiing last week. We’re going again on the 25th, though, lol.

I, among many other things, taught PE. One unit was snow shoe-ing. I had been night skiing 2-3-4 evenings a week and was in good shape. That first week of snow shoe-ing was a whole new experience. I lived.

Ha! That’s how I felt about xc last week. I fell 5-6 times, and by the end wasn’t sure I’d be able to get up if it happened again. I’d just have to lie there in the snow and die.

But I’ll give it one more shot.

Yea, I have X country skied as well. When I could peak bag, the downhill skiing, I felt, kept my legs stronger for the day hikes in the summer. But X country skiing is deceptive in its wind sucking ability. Then there is that, the falling. :joy::joy::joy:

Iron day 11/30 - legs incl. calves - 30 minute cardio warmup. It went quickly, which I attribute to a better night’s sleep than I had for yesterday’s workout (work stress messing with sleep/mood).

I enjoyed some treats over the weekend and they don’t seem to have caused much of a gain, about which I’m happy.

We just booked a trip to the Virgin Islands for Feb. 27th. I’m pretty chuffed about it - I’ve never been to the Caribbean. So that’s in five weeks. I’m going to try reeeeeeeally hard to keep my head while there. Deload and refeed yes, crazy unhinged eating hopefully no.

Off to a fantastic start!

Even better, I hope you have all the fun! I may be slightly jealous.

Weight climbing :-/

Iron day 12/30 - chest and triceps - 15 minute/1 mile cardio warmup.

I wasn’t really feeling it because there’s stuff going on at work that’s crushing me. However, getting ready for work I realized that I want to resign, then called out sick for the remainder of the week. I have a duty to my patients to give 30 days notice, so I’ll still be there for a bit, but will happily be outside of the office politics.

Not sure what’s next, another job or private practice. If I can figure out affordable health insurance for myself, it’ll be the latter. I’m ready to have control back.

My weight is up, which I credit to stress snacking. Got into the goldfish last night and the night before it was dark chocolate chips and almonds. In both cases, I just couldn’t stop. I’m hoping my decision to give notice will help with that.

In happy news, I’m going to use my sick day today to go to the trampoline park. I’m super excited about that. It’s over an hour away, but we can be there when it opens, hopefully before all the kids get there.
