Emily's About-Time Training Log

July 8

So along those lines, I’m having another “keep the goal the goal” moment. Today is my first day “back” from vacation, though I don’t work today and have been home since Wednesday. But husband is off to St. Louis or San Diego or somewhere, so it’s my day for groceries and food prep and generally reorienting before returning to work tomorrow.

I’ve started the Girvan beginner series and while I’m very happy I’ve made this choice because she’s talking through it, which is helpful (some of her workouts rely on text boxes for tips), it’s definitely a reduction in what I was doing in terms of time spent under the weights. Still, I’m absolutely feeling it in my lower body. I need to increase weights for the upper.

I’m somewhat tempted to go another week or so on the beginner and then switch to Iron and focus on building. We’ll see. I may just add in supplementary short WOs. Too, maybe this would be a good time to cut further.

I have to decide the goal before I can keep it the goal, lol. That’s on today’s agenda along with working out, shopping, cleaning, and prep.

Yesterday CG Beginner Day 2, 15 minutes TM zone 2, lake swimming.

Okay, I’ve made the goal! Now that I know what it is, it’ll be easier to keep it the goal.

I really enjoyed this morning’s workout. I like that she’s offering both “you may want to play with this positioning, find what suits you” along with form reminders (“open chest”) and so I think I’m in the right place for this next phase of workouts. On my goblet squats, for instance, I’ve made form changes I can feel. So that’s good for now. Plan is to finish this program and then move on to become completely ripped and shredded and such afterward. No rush (I suppose).

I’m going to drop calories as well, though this is a difficult time of year for any consistency on that score - on the other hand better the inconsistent cut than to be consistently in a feeding frenzy.

Today’s WO
15 min WU (10 light cardio, 5 Girvan)
Sumo squats X3 sets
Staggered RDL X4 sets
Curtsy lunge X4 sets
Bent over row X3 sets
Arnold press X3 sets
Diamond (inside) press X3 sets
30 min CD treadmill zone 2

I’ll start tracking weights when they stabilize a bit - I’m still getting my bearings.

@Njord I wanted to say how much I appreciate your input. I think I was a little flippant above. I’ve also been wanting to mention - but not in the middle of a debate, lol - that you seem to have resolved your ten-years-ago ennui problem, and I’m glad. You seem really content.

No worries, I didn’t read any flippancy.

I vaguely remember ennui, lol. College was easy and so were the early corporate years so whatever describes boredom while “actively waiting” for more.

Yeah, I can’t remember why we were talking about your feeling of listlessness and dissatisfaction arising from a lack of occupation or excitement, either. I just remember that we did. And I notice that it seems to be absent now, which is good.

Why keep changing names?

Apropos of nothing, this made me happy because it’s so colorful and because I like eating it all and because I happen to be really hungry right now:

I’ve been gone for 10+, maybe 15 years. Somewhere in there. I don’t remember my credentials. Kind of surprised how many people are still around.

I think a lot of us drift in and out. I know I’ve been gone for periods of time over the years.

I’m curious to see what direction T-Nation takes with TC leaving. It looks like some long time contributors/leaders are at the helm now, which is great.

30 minutes cardio video. Meant to do sprints, but forgot to turn the a/c on in the treadmill room, so no go there.

Back to work today.

I have DOMS from the past couple of CG workouts - maybe because I took the week off, but more likely because I’m hitting stuff I hadn’t been. Which of course was the motivation to change up this month. So good, it’s working.

My first patient no-showed. It’s nice and cool and dim here, and I just want to go to sleep.

I had to look these, and her, up, she is absolutely stunning. I know comparison is the theif of joy, but goalz…
I may also have to join you on the Iron Series, it looks pretty awesome. I need to grab me some dumbbells.

The Facebook pages for Girvan can be pretty funny. People posting side-by-sides of how they each looked at the end of a workout…with the poster being all red and blotchy with their hair sticking up with sweat, and Caroline smiling and perfect despite having used twice or three times the weight.

She’s been on my radar for a while now. The changes I’ve made this year make me think for the first time that I could maybe handle doing the series. I’m hoping to finish up the beginner and start Iron at the beginning of August.

That is fantastic, definitely some great looking programs.

That sounds like a good timeline, curious to see how it goes!

So far it’s going very poorly. I couldn’t get my phone cast to the TV for some reason, and then ran out of time. I’ll have to fuck with it after work - which worries me, I don’t know that I’ve ever really followed through on a workout-after-work plan.

I’m pretty frustrated. I could have slept an extra 45 minutes. :frowning:

Dang technology! Time for a smart TV upgrade?

That is frustrating, 45 more minutes of sleep sounds delightful.

BUT TODAY I DID!

July 10

CG Ultimate Beginner program day 4, done.

It took significant fucking with the TV’s AirPlay to get it to play, and I know the issue isn’t resolved. I’ll report it to maintenance when he calls later. Hopefully he can get it fixed by Friday.

I’m liking the program more and more.

I read this as Ultimate Burger Program - think I have issues

Nice work! After work iron for the win!

Not yet! I’m doing her beginner series first, to do some long-needed form check/work.
