Alright well ive gotta question to this. Im in high school, i love to train and everything…lately (like the past 5 months) EVERYBODY has been like “oh your going to regret it when your older etc etc.” they say this because well…yeah they think im going to regret that i didnt drink with friends or anything and “have fun” with them and everything…i dont smoke or anything, and dont plan to.
But what do u guys think…just drink once and try it just to get a feel for it…LOL also what would be the best time to do this…after a cycle of training…like u know when u take a week off of training or so?..and NO i am not getting pressured into it, its jsut that u guys have more experience than me so i wanna know what u think…have a drink on the off-training phase for a week and experience all that teenage stuff lol (besides smoking) OR just NAHH screw it and just i wont think about it or anything later
dl- to drink or not to drink.
I don’t drink and never used drugs. But I still went to parties, bars and clubs! I had a helluva good time too. I didn’t need the alcohol to have fun either. Most people saw me with a cup of water in my hand and assumed I drank unless they asked me. Everyone was cool with that. I didn’t miss out on anything except for hangovers and getting in trouble, unlike my friends.
Touche! Just ask the barkeep or barback for a water on ice in a short glass, as in glass, with a lime and everyone will think you are drinking a G&T (gin and tonic). It works and you really hydrate yourself for the next day. Or just not drink it, hold it in your hand and let loose. And, oh yeah, underage drinking is against the law. For a reason, too. Drinking and driving kills people. And cross-country is gay.

LOL! I guess my testosterone driven life of rugby, MMA and combat tends to make me snub little guys, especially ones that promote underage drinking. Pennsylvania? Don’t you have butter to churn? Oh, and that avatar…nice. Muscle and Stickness must be knocking down your door.

You’re a fucking idiot. For one, I’ve gained a lot of size since my avatar picture. And I’ve only been training seriously for a few months. In which time I’ve put on a lot of mass. What have you done? Your rigorous ‘testosterone-driven’ life hasn’t done very much for your physique. 12 years of training and 210 at 6 ft? Count me unimpressed Extremely. And you know what else is gay-doctoring water to look like an alcoholic drink because of insecurity and over-concern with what people think. I’ve gone to the bar plenty of times sober without trying to delude people and pretend I was drinking. Had a lot of fun too. Man up-try it sometime. But that’s enough personal attacks from me. I’m done.
For the record, for all of you underage kids who’ve been following this thread, I want to say that I’m not encouraging underage drinking. I was simply trying to be realistic and share my own experiences. My teammates and I drank sometimes. Sorry if soccer is too much of a sissy sport for some of you. But the fact remains that I was able to play at a high level and often drink on the weekends. The same goes for some of my friends on the football team, a sport that everyone will surely agree is ‘manly’ enough.
But perhaps I was remiss in only providing one side. People can certainly get caught up in it and it can hurt them athletically and otherwise. I have also had friends whose sports were negatively effected by their drinking to lesser or greater degrees. The worst is my friend Robbie, a very talented sprinter who got a track scholarship to U of M. When he got there in the fall, he joined a fraternity, got too caught up in the partying lifestyle, didn’t train right. To make a law story short, come spring he had lost his scholarship and wasn’t running for the team at all. And he wasn’t really smart enough to be there. He graduated but did shitty.
Maybe Michael C though I was encouraging drinking and that’s how it came off. He probably should have said that instead of going on a personal attack based on an outdated picture and sports he knows nothing about. It’s certainly possible to have fun without drinking, and you don’t need to drink to fit in. That shouldn’t be the reason you do it. For those that do decide to drink, please use good judgement and dont overdo it. For your own benefits!

Why are you starting shit? jsbrook has been nothing but cool and has offered his truthful opinion on the matter. He’s not promoting drinking. Why do you give your resume “my life of rugby MMA and combat”?

Maybee kids should drink. I started realy young, became an anti social reject, a few stays in jail, ruined my life- lost a house, money, jobs, friends, basicaly everything! Hit bottom with a splat and got into recovery. All before the age of 27. Five years later I’ve gone back to school, have a house, job, people that love me, and the future looks bright.
Plus all the good stories of drunken/drug induced debauchery and mayhem. It’s like having your cake and eating it too.
Of course the alternative is to learn the proper coping skills to deal with the good and bad that life has to offer, so as to avoid working twice as hard to get back to a life that is worth living and a future that you can look forward to.

There’s nothing wrong with ordering a water and adding a lime or lemon to it. If people believe it’s a gin and tonic, so be it! In fact, many times when I order a water, the bartendar will put a lime or lemon in it for me!
And if someone asks me what I’m drinking, and I tell them water, and they ask why, I tell them I don’t drink! No biggie.
I don’t purposely try to fool people into thinking I’m drinking anything more than water. It doesn’t matter to me. Most women that I meet are usually quite impressed or interested in me when they find out.
Being sober does have its benefits…especially with the ladies!
But this isn’t anything against you bro, I was just pointing it out that anyone can do that and it’s not a big deal.

Nate, that comment wasn’t directed at you. There’s nothing wrong with ordering water at a bar. I do it when I don’t want to drink alcohol if I’m thirsty! I agree-if people think it’s alcohol so be it. I just don’t see the need to purposely try to make people think I’m drinking alcohol. I could care less if people think I’m drinking or wondering why I’m not. And yes, not being slobbering drunk and actually being able to form coherent sentences does often help with the ladies.
LMAO!!! I’m sorry. I couldn’t resist. It is so easy to get a rise out of people in these forums. I do apologize. I played soccer before rugby and loved it. Track is great, sprinters have some of the best muscular development in athletics. And cross-country is good-to-go. My weight is incorrect. I am 224 and really need to get down to about 205. I can’t run nearly as fast at this weight (or 231, as I was last month).
Military conditioning requires me to be able to run and hike long distances and it is f’ing miserable to run when it hurts because of the extra muscle. Cross-country is not easy. 12 years is correct. But I don’t have to be 260 pounds because I have been training for that many years. And I did drink when I was young, so I am a hypocrite. But I did ‘man-up’ and stopped drinking six and one-half years ago. I have ‘manned-up’ on other occassions as well. And I suck at MMA.
I’m sorry to have insulted you, that was insensitive of me. Honestly, you look good, and I bet you look even better now. I was just being a dick. But it was funny, though. And, oh, ‘judgement’ is correctly spelled ‘judgment’.
just recently I decided to terminate consumption of ALL booze for a while, and see how my physique and strength progress, so far I can’t tell anything, but it’s only been about a week, so who knows! I figure that after 4 years of college/regular binging once or twice a week, I need a break, that and it got to the point where I could drink a ton and not ‘feel it’ even though I clearly was… so I figured it’d be healthy to lay low for a while, find a safehouse or a friend nearby… I digress, but I’m eager to see how much faster I improve without drinking these next few weeks.
Mike, sorry for tossing it back at you. I’m not someone who places sheer size above all athleticism and sport. I was trying to give it back as good as I got. No worries. Take it easy.

i am a workout and diet saint during the week, but as soon as i have that first beer on friday night, the rest of my weekend turns into a long drunken blur during which i can’t stop shotgunning beers, chugging liquor, and ruining relationships. the worst part is that i don’t even remember these things until i listen to the awful messages on my phone.
oh and last saturday night i took a piss in my hamper in my closet all over my clothes, and i didn’t realize until my mom pointed it out yesterday. i live my life to two extremes, and i can’t seem to settle in the middle. hopefully this habit dies after college hahahah
it’s a 50/50 chance, either you make the habit die, or it consumes you… that’s what I’ve come to find out from observing those around me and myself
