I didn’t mention boxing, but I like it. You can only talk so much shit before you need to back it up with more than lifting weights.
Now, will the boxing be more like a WWE match or are these guys going to really go at it? It will be a big draw, for sure. See The Mountain Fight for real will sell a ton of PPV.
According to Thor he asked if he had an invite to WSM and no reply so he isnt doing it. I get that they are prbly pretty pissed with him for shining a light on their corrupt practices but that isnt his fault.
WSM needs to fix itself…honestly I hope it doesnt and just fades out. WUS and Arnolds are way better.
Ehh. Do I agree with him calling out tailoring events to suit somebody’s styles? Sure. But don’t then expect them to invite you back there to compete again. That’s the choice you make when you get vocal about an event that you compete in. It’s on a way, way, way smaller scale, but could potentially be compared to a Kaepernick situation (excluding the fact that Thor in his sport is way better than Kaep was) - agree with him or not, you can’t talk trash about an organization and then demand to be part of that organization.
If they end up with plenty of time to train, it’s going to depend on just how seriously they take the training. If it’s like a year out and Eddie goes 100% into boxing training and getting his weight down, I can’t see Thor getting ready enough while staying in strongman. The dude is 450+ right now. Unless Thor is going to take a break from strongman, I might have to take Eddie as the underdog.
Historically they have tailored events to be not in favour of whoever the current champion is. Pudzinowski wins - next year it’s heavier and more static for example. On occasion it has been tailored to favour someone. Jon Pall over OD for example - because Dougie was buddies with JP. It is a British show, show it would be unsurprising if it were tailored to suit a British favourite. They seemed to gear it towards Gary Taylor the year he won, and against him the following year.
WSM was supposed to happen this month in Clearwater FL, last time I looked. That is not likely to happen. There’s a chance it’s a no go this year because of Covid 19 and travel restrictions, so they’re banking on a paycheck and no travel restrictions by September.
I had heard months ago from connected friends that this was going to be the case. I was told a couple months prior to the Arnold (before COVID was a thing) that this would be his last year. That he would do the Arnold, WSM, this deadlift (in Dubai or something originally), and then he would hang it up. I KNOW this is not how he wanted to go out, but… I mean, it is what it is. The one thing I could see happening is trying to get one more big deadlift done, in a competition, and then retiring. It will have to be soon though. He won’t maintain this level of strength for long.
