Can the guy freaking rest so that Bells Palsy goes away? If I’m not mistaken, it’s onset is usually caused by or comes along with tons of stress. It can go away, but the stress has to cease as well.
In other news, Stoltman is looking strong. I’m genuinely surprised he would do something so massive (and over the current record) in training only ~12 days out.
Is this boxing match going to be drug tested???
I feel like Eddie probably has better Natty genetics but because he will literally put his life on the line a drug test actually favors Thor.
I am fairly certain any athletic committee willing to commission this fight will have zero concerns about drug testing and fight physicals.
Normal, you would be peaking at this point and that was not quite 100% by the look. 2 days out would be weird.
You must be British. No one but a Brit could think that for even a second. And there’s no way that drug testing happens, except maybe for stimulants like WSM.
Tee hee, I was ignoring height and size and was just thinking Eddie was on his way to being a world class swimmer as a youngster I assume naturally. Thor was an ok basketball player but at his size (huge for the league he was in) he doesn’t have to be super skilled.
I am definitely on team Thor btw…but think Eddie wins the fight. Eddie has more experience boxing and aside from boxing he has a face scar that I doubt came from a sexual mishap. I think he has a mean streak that Thor doesn’t, or at least we haven’t seen it yet.
For what it’s worth, Beth, I think a separate thread in GAL just for the fight is completely justified.
Eddie literally cannot punch, it’s a one-armed push. A sub 200 lb guy is going to go flying if it actually connects, but I doubt he gets hurt by it. Pushing a 400 lb guy doesn’t really accomplish much. Eddie literally has zero speed. I’m betting Thor can let out his inner Viking and do some damage.
Being a good brawler has zero carryover to being a good boxer. If anything, it’s a hindrance due to bad habits.
I like that they’ve got plenty of time to train. It’s not like either will become pro boxers in that span, but I’m expecting a step above Rough 'n Rowdy on the technical side. These guys are both professionals, presumably ready to put in some work.
I’m not sure boxing is a good long-term component of strongman, mostly due to concussion risk. That said, as a spectator I like the idea of two ridiculously strong men struggling against each other instead of objects, as long as it isn’t too gimmicky. Various types of wrestling and other types of struggles with a major strength component would be cool to see. A sumo type event seems almost perfect for strongman.
It is an odd sport to begin with and always evolving over time, why not sumo or similar games on the regular?
If both boxers are shitty boxers than it might!
Given the amount of time they have to train, and the unquestioned motivation of each individual to attain Ultimate Bragging Rights, I actually think this contest has the potential to exceed expectations.
Because those events suck for competitors, carrying great risk of injury, and they actually suck to watch 99% of the time.
That’s part of the point of combat events, and one’s ability to cope with that level of suck through emotional strength should surely factor into figuring out who the world’s strongest man really is, shouldn’t it? What kind of World’s Strongest Man would fold under a little bit of pain, discomfort or a few broken ribs?
More than what’s already present?
That’s part of my spectator wish-list. If they were regular, they’d be trained to some degree. Proficiency would, in theory at least, shine through somehow.
It’s a long shot, I know, but I’m eagerly anticipating this boxing match!
Absolutely, and significantly. The increased risk carries over to any subsequent events. It isn’t “Tough man”. If somebody wants violence there are plenty of other options for viewing.
Yeah. When it’s just 1 guy lifting weights, there’s a significant amount of control, to include the ability to bail. When a human resists another human, there’s a significant chaos factor involved. It gets multiplied when you take dudes that are inhumanly strong yet new to the activity.
Think of the spazziest jits noob and then imagine he can deadlift 800lbs for reps. Then, instead of allowing him an instructor to control him, he goes up against another spazzy 800lb deadlifting noob. It’s a bad scene.
There are WAY more injuries at Mas-wrestling events in strongman comps than other events in those comps. Pulled/torn lats are big.
sigh
I know, I know.
It such a fun idea to think about though.
Is that the look or has he had a stroke…
Pretty sure it’s Bell’s palsy, but tomato tomahto
As we’re now talking about who might win based on what reasons, we’ve moved past the debate on how stupid this idea is and have made it a real contest/competition.
